I lost it when he said that, seriously

what does it mean it this context, "fill your boots"? I'm not native speaker and I've found so many definitions that I'm a bit lost here...

It is basically like saying "get your fill" or maybe "play until you run out of ideas". as in "You guitar players can play crazy solos for as long as you want, but I (as a bass player) control what key we are ultimately in"

basically "knock your self out"...."have at it"...."act like an idiot to your hearts content" lol its a phrase that requires other phrases with their own definitions that are situational...

Ripley I taught myself how to play drums, then 5 or six years later I decided to take lessons I went to my first lesson and I was told that I was holding the sticks wrong, then shown how to properly hold them which was really uncomfortable for me and played, I left when I realized my incorrect way was the way that pretty much every metal drummer uses, and that I was already way better player than the guy trying to teach me, yes I could play using that uncomfortable grip, but it just felt unnatural to me, people do have an inflated sense of self importance, when I show someone how to do something I let them try it their way, I suggest my way and let them decide which one works best for them, just because I do things a certain unique way ( being ambidextrous) doesn't mean others can......

lucyferina the first thing and probably best thing my drum teacher ever taught me is the multiple ways to hold the sticks. i gravitate towards the rock/metal way, but him gravitates some other way since he’s primarily a jazz drummer

FeelingShred they do that in indian music all the time but still that's different to the point devin was making. the bassist is a kind of conductor in a sense because s/he can direct the harmonic sphere.

I hear that. That’s something I work on a lot is relaxing when playing aggressive stuff. It’s so damn hard though. You start tensing up the rhythm just goes to hell lol

Hey, 2 years later, if you're still wondering: "wank" is synonymous with sexual self-manipulation, and in reference to guitar he means unsubstantial noodly ego-satiating show-off nonsense. "Attack" is a fundamental way of describing any sound. Google "ADSR" to learn more, but Attack/Decay/Sustain/Release are all descriptors of any conceivable sound, such as: how consistent is the volume, how much does it trail off when it ends? "Attack" generally refers to how intense does a sound start? If you use a pick or a fingernail, a guitar sound would have a sharp attack, if you use the fat of your finger, guitar will have a dull attack.

Check out some Strapping Young Lad. Alien and City are pretty damn heavy albums.

I cant seem to find them on the Spotify database. To be quite honest with you, Hes just a blend of some classic rock and metal guitarists but with a twist. A Multi-effect mayhem twist :/ but hey if you like him, you like him. I dont blame ya. Plus these techniques have been already said a million times and there are some obvious tweaks in guitar playing :/

james jude Search for it on youtube then. Trust me, Devin's way more than some guy with too many effects. Can't guarantee you'll enjoy it but at least you'll get a better picture of him as an overall musician.

james jude I guess you haven't heard tracks like Critic, Happy Camper, Oh My Fucking God or All Hail the New Flesh? I mean it may not be Nails - Unsilent Death type of heavy if that's what you mean?

It's one thing if you don't dig effects, but saying "too much multi effects" just sounds like you don't really know what he is doing but you DO know that some of these sounds can be made with multi effect processors. Devin uses a lot of delays and echos, that is mostly it. He's not using choruses, flangers, phasers, tremolos, vibratos etc etc, all things contained within most "multi effects". He uses a lot of delay, if you don't like that then that is fine, this is HIS stylistic choice. That combined with your comment about him being "a blend of some classic rock and metal guitarists" means that you have probably only watched this one video and do not know anything about his extensive catalog or anything about guitar effects for that matter. Please educate yourself instead of adding to pile of grossly uninformed opinions that litter youtube.
