Devola and Popola tried to stop Nier from going on his journey without explaining why because they had to keep the secret. Here, in a last ditch effort to convince him they actually told him the thruth. The twins had a duty to save humanity. It was Nier who refused to stand down and doomed humanity.

Is that why ending C feels the most right to me ? I believe killing Kainé is the fairest thing to do after the suffering she allowed to occur and how Nier couldn't see Shadowlord was him.

I find it interesting how in the original Nier, it's "you think I have the luxury to stop", whereas the remake has it as "you think you have the luxury to stop". In one, Popola has no choice. She has to do whatever she can to ensure that Nier doesn't kill the Shadowlord and end humanity. They've tried tricking him to bring Grimoire Weiss with the Sealed Verses, that failed since Weiss didn't have his memories and refused to fuse. They tried showing him how his enemies are the real humans, and it ended with her sister dead. All that's left is to fight. She thinks, with good reason, that she's right. The other puts it on Nier. Nier has done so many things wrong, so much of humanity killed, what's another friend in the pile, as long as it gets him closer to his sister? Would he be able to stop, if it meant he couldn't get his sister again? He thinks he's right, with good reason.

wrong. there was no romance in that scene at all. She saw nier being all pathetic after Emil's sacrifice. Kaine got annoyed by that, beat the shit out of him and realized she's just as guilty as him because she was also saved by emil by sacrificing himself and she realized she's transfering her anger towards nier which doesnt make sense. Dont misunderstand

@@sayhowling You're right in that she was beating him for being pathetic. But look at before and after. That wasn't the face of someone only considering beating this man, she was looking at him incredibly softly, even let him grieve.

@@dave_the_slick8584 Yeah, I think the feelings were in place, but one of the two reasons made her reconsider: accepting her "mutilated" body and the risk of him seeing it, or indeed the Tyrann dilemma.

This game isn't about good and evil, right and wrong, is more about perspective. In route A we only see the side of the replicants and route B and C we see both sides. Replicant Nier was never wrong, but for the Shadowlord and the Shades he was a villain, denying his purpose as a replicant, but from his side he was right for fighting the Shadowlord to bring back Yonah even if it costs the future of mankind

I really prefer the replicants side thought, Nier was just doing what he thought was right

Kainé is intersex and identifies as female, so wears feminine clothing to feel more like a woman. I personally don’t agree with that decision but that’s what the makers of the game say 🤷🏾‍♂️

@@kebireo 1- it's not choice. 2- you clearly didn't read the lore. Kainé's replicant is intersex, before project gestalt she was a woman. Kainé' is intersex in the game because the creation of her replicant had a flaw that gave her male genitals. the people of the village are scared of her because of this, hence she wears lingerie to make her female attributes more obvious. Yoko Taro literally said trans rights, get over it.

1: Kaine is intersex and was abused by her community for it. she dresses extremely feminine to try and show she isn't a monster, according to the arbitrary choices of the community around her. 2: Kaine has fused with a Gestalt for her arm/leg that were destroyed when her grandmother died. She doesn't want it to take over, and it is vulnerable to sunlight. If you wrap the Gestalt leg/arm in bandages, but keep the body around that area open, the Gestalt doesn't have the chance to spread.

IIRC in Automata it’s stated that the twin system androids were literally designed to be unable to function without the other, so technically the fault goes to whoever was dumb enough to design a feature like that.

@@flowerfaerie8931 According to the lore, it is explained that it was emotionally impossible for a single android to bear the burden of watching over humanity until they were ready to return to their bodies, that is why they designed twin androids.

​@@aquatheneptunewolf1115 Spoilers for route B and onward: As far as I'm aware, it's meant to be romantic in the sense that it's the closest she gets to expressing her feelings for him without going berserk. Tyrann is her shade, and throught routes B and C/D, you hear him going on about how she needs to feel nothing but hate and anger or else he takes over. If she lets herself go soft, she loses. She gets mad, attacks Nier, and then, almost goes to kiss him as she pins him against the wall, at the point they are both at their most emotionally vulnerable. Then she realises that she's already going soft and has just doomed herself. That's why in the fight with the shadowlord, Tyrann comments on how she's changed, and she tries to leave afterwards. In C/D, it is revealed after the Shadiwlord is beaten, that she's done for, and she goes berserk. The romance of the moment wasn't her beating him down, but what happened between that and her backing off. In the heat of the moment, at the peak of her emotions, she went soft, and in doing so, she lost the one thing holding Tyrann back, and only regained enough composure to help finish the fight.

@@aquatheneptunewolf1115 Yeah, it is. The original endings give her a release from her possesion. Major spoilers ahead. Seriously, if you want to experience the main endings of the game yourself, don't read beyond this point. After you beat Kaine in battle in your 3rd run of the game, you have 2 options, both given by her shade, Tyrann, who has, like Kaine, gone soft, as he says when asked why he is helping to save her: he says he's doing it for the same reason Nier is. Implying that he has come around to care about her, and wants her to be free of her pain. Ending C has you finish her off. Nier stabs her through the heart, and as she dies, Nier kisses her. She disappears, leaving behind the Lunar Tear Nier had given her when she was freed from her petrification (the flower which she put in her hair for the rest of part 2) and Tyrann lets Nier know that she is grateful, and you hear both of them say "thank you" in unison. This ending is considered the most likely ending to the "Gestalt" version of the game, where you play as "father Nier" as opposed to Replicant, where you play as the version known as " brother Nier", as "father Nier" would be more likely to not leave things to chance and want to be there for Yonah. It is also the ending she had wanted. She asked Nier to kill her before she goes berserk, as she had made up her mind to fight for him to see Yonah again, to "become his sword one last time". She is satisfied with this conclusion, but it obviously hurts Nier to have to do this. Ending D has Nier erase himself to cure her possession. This ending erases your save data as well. It is the ending that is considered "true canon", as it is both the heroic sacrifce, and the version of events the outside material, and ending E, follows. Funnily enough, Nier giving his existence up for her is the opposite of what she wanted. She aimed to fight for him one last time and then leave before her possession made things unpleasant. And she doesn't even know at first, because you erase everything about their interactions, including the memories, atleast for now. This is considered to be what "brother Nier" would do, entrusting Yonah's wellbeing to someone who had thrown herself into the gauntlet alongisde him willingly, and then being ready to accept death if it meant guaranteeing their safety. Ending E is a continuation of ending D where Kaine brings Nier back. No-one even remembers him before hand, as he completely erased all memories of himself to save Kaine. 3 years after the main game, you play as a now 20 year old Kaine, and she soon fights against the program made to reset the replicant system, and she eventually starts remembering some things, and she begins fighting to bring Nier back after being reunited with Emil. She is successful in bringing Nier back, but he is brought back physically as his younger self from when they first met, back when he was 16, though he supposedly retains his memories. In the Gestalt version, Nier was in his late 30s and Kaine was 20 when they first met. In the Replicant version, Nier was 16 and Kaine was 17. It's kinda funny, because Nier reached 21 years of age while Kiane was pertrified at 17, then when she's 20, she brings him back as a 16 year old. Which also means he goes from being 4 years older than Yonah (his sister) to only 1 year older. Dude goes from youngest party member, to oldest, back to youngest (Emil is an experimental weapon who is over 1000 years old.) Ending E is pretty powerful thematically in Nier Replicant SQRT1.5 (the number is the square root of 1.5 as Yoko Taro decided) and Automata. In Automata, you fight the names of the devs in the credits to save 2B, 9S and A2. In Replicant, you follow the events of the story that occurs after ending D, as Kaine fights to eventually restore the one who erased his whole existence to save her. In a way, it's Yoko Taro's way of letting you give the middle finger to being told what you are allowed to do. Ending E in both games has a character that has supported the protagonist/protagonists go all in against insane odds to save those they care about. And they win. As depressing as the Nier games get, there is hope for a better future. But those that want it have to fight for it.
