kevrmx so his draft number would increase and he’d get a better rookie contract. Had he entered last year with Jerry Jeudy and Henry Ruggs III he probably wouldn’t be projected to go first round or early in the draft but with this season (and the Heisman) under his belt he’s almost certain to go first round.
DS doing so well at the Eagles, I just had to watch this to see what his college play looked like. Supreme aerial skills and hand/eye co-ordination, fast and smooth as silk, tough as nails. He is a pleasure to watch.
I know this is an older comment, but you missed out forsure not seeing this season unfold live! Keep in mind, 117 receptions, 1800+ yards, and 23 tds in 13 games! Legendary stretch
He still has one more game to go, if he gets one more touchdown he breaks the record for most SEC receiving touchdowns which stands at 20 and four more he breaks the record which stands at I believe 23. So he could break one more record this year!
I don't think that's a good comparison. Devonta Smith 175lbs soaking wet. He's also way faster than Marvin Harrison was. To me, his NFL comparison is DeSean Jackson. Super skinny, blazing top speed, etc. Having said that... I really don't like his build. He looks like the sort of guy who will be on the injury list a lot. Taking hits from grown men, I don't know how his body will hold up. Not many people throughout NFL's history with a build that slender that have succeeded at a high level without sustaining a bunch of injuries. Availability is one of the most important attributes to a player.... Saquon Barkley constantly on IR is no good.
@@jimbrown341 the way he moves is very similar to DeSean Jackson. Good call. Not sure if he’s got the top end speed of Jackson and he’s also not way faster than Marvin Harrison. He might be faster at a top speed but Harrison was no slouch and extremely quick, but I guess we will see how he does at the combine. He certainly doesn’t have too many problems beating deep. I’m not as concerned as you about his build, and if you’re smart you can avoid big hits.
@@taylormolitoris9131 They aren't allowed to hit their heads, but this boy's legs are his weak spot and they can hit those tooth picks for legs ALL DAY LONG. He's going to get broke so fast. He couldn't even make it through the National Championship game without getting hurt.
To be honest idk how he won the heisman...for a receiver to win the heisman I was expecting touchdown after touchdown...like a desean jackson or Corey brown...explosive playmaking type stuff...or even a John Ross...
How people talked about this guy I was expecting a touchdown highlight reel...I’m not saying he isn’t good but I don’t understand how this is a legendary season...go watch John Ross junior year...it’s totally different
@@MrSPIDEY21 The difference between Smith and Ross is Pac 12 vs SEC. The SEC is a different breed compared to the Pac. Now Davonta didn't have a record setting year but he put that team on top. Mac needed him just to be in the conversation. So maybe legendary is a little much but he definitely deserved the award.
Some of yall dont know why he stayed, he made a promise to one of his mentors that he would win the heisman and it would stay in the mentors shop forever, and the mentor said before he was even in college that Devonta would win the heisman
@@ll0g4n1 you act as though you know this person.....I work with 200 people just like you in Alabama no lives of your own so you have to grab on to what ever tidbit of excitement in someone else life and act as though it part of you some how .....role ajax
Came back here a couple years later and I’m so grateful this kid is an eagle. Great personality and character. He had a few catches this year that blew me away. Everyone was saying he was too small, well he plays like a big dawg.
I dont really watch college football but I had to watch these dudes higlights after last night. But One thing I learned from this video, besides the fact that this dude's speed, route running, and hands are phenomenal.. is that Steve Sarkisan's play calling is a thing of beauty
Earned, deserved and it came down to best player, best conference, best division, best team. No excuses, no special accommodations, just on the field in a real season and the toughest fields in the highest profile games. Roll Tide D, Roll Tide
I remember that Desmond Howard season in '91. It felt like his Heisman season 'to win' all that season. Every game was a highlight reel. Smith's season was definitely the closest thing to it. An extreme focus to be dominant game after game is very rare.
I'm listening to the nit-wits on Philly talk radio saying Smitty might not be able to take a hit from NFL DBs. Maybe they need to watch the clips at @4:39 and @4:45 The Vols were trying to kill him. The LSU game @8:54. Response by Smitty? 231yds and 3TDs. LET'S GOOOOO!
He will be def able to take db hits. Now when he runs the middle and has Anthony Barr coming full speed how will he take that one? I’m a Vikings fan but being from Philly then Eagles are my 2nd team. I wanted Eagles to get this kid.
I don't know about not taking a hit but I think he's definitely going to start having injury problems throughout the season and career in the NFL if he doesn't bulk up some. His measurables arent great either.
@@awes6709 And? 875yds receiving this year. Not bad for a rookie on a team that has a QB that doesn't even throw more than 30 attempts a game. PHL needs a QB that can spin that ball and the Golden Gazelle will take off.
@@niss2142 I'm happy we're in the playoffs and he's a good leader. Devonta smith is just incredible route runner with high IQ and there's familiarity there, but if people can't see this is not sustainable in the future without him learning how to make high level throws then I don't know what to say. This season was one hundred percent on this olines back.
Waddle is what the Fins need. More dynamic, more explosive. I don't like how Smith catches too much with his body. Miami already has Parker and Williams. Waddle is a much better fit, and can be a better help to Tua. Besides, i want Miami to trade back. Waddle is just a better fit...
Guys like this kid are few and far between I want to congratulate him on winning the Heisman He deserves to have this It just shows his body of work I wish him the best for his future
he’s like michael thomas but waaay faster. similar to julio jones in his route running and insane catch radius. or he’s just a new wr that we have never ever seen before. this kid is a beast.
well deserved!!!!!! i was hoping for Najee Harris but that was just for selfish reasons being i am from northern calif and he grew up and went to high school 45 minutes from my house lololol Congrats Devonta Smith! this was well deserved!!!!
Congratulations Devonta Smith you earned it you deserved it you are the best player in the country in college football almost Unstoppable and quite a weapon for any offense
War damn eagle diehard auburn fan and much respect to this guy , i thought as far as bama career cooper was the best and most clutch but this guy is...
What makes this kid so special though is how he does it. It isn’t freakish athleticism. He is a tier 1 route runner with elite hands. Of course he is very fast
He looks consistent ! I'm not a bama fan so I never heard of him but in this highlight reel and didn't see anything crazy like I was expecting after I heard he won the Heisman.
I agree, Joe. He knows how to get open, and he's got great hands, BUT most of the time, he gets taken down almost immediately. Lamar Jackson could teach him a thing or two about avoiding tackles. Devonta makes not-so-great decisions when it comes to where he should run with the ball (to avoid tackles).
@@adamhart3413 Look more closely at the video. There are times where he could have made more yardage, but....well, didn't. Lamar wasn't a wide receiver, but he knew how to run with the ball. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-3-GOJpZYaco.html
If they gave the Heisman to gifted announcers, Gary Danielson would win it every year. The way he sees what's going on is just incredible. He NEVER FAILS to make the game so much better! His talent is always as good or better than the Heisman winner!
I have question. In 3:23 Alabama doing Play-Action pass, half of the O-linemans are run-blocking beyond 1 yard line. Isn't it Offense Passing Interference?
Honestly, I think Olave is a better receiver. I watched this video and Olave has much better plays, think he wasn't in the running because of their shortened season. Sermon is showing how great he can be by running over 320 yards in a single game, and Fields is extremely capable as shown be his Clemson performance. Might be a bit biased because I'm an OSU fan, but both teams are pretty nasty.
@@stewg4661 Everyone in the country knows there is no better receiver than Smith. He is a man amongst boys in college. Olave is good don’t get me wrong but don’t put him ahead of the heisman winner that’s just crazy talk
