Very well done!! And that fan end bearing is exactly what has failed on mine.... Your tutorial was just enough detail for this old guy to get the job done as soon as my bearing gets here... Thanks again for your informative details...
best bearing replacement tutorial I've seen so far. I especially liked the comment that dewalt put way to much tension on the belt because I take good care of my saw and have never had a bearing go out on a saw so quickly as my dewalt 780, just 13 months of normal use. Thankyou! 38 years of being a professional trim carpenter I have to say that the Dewalt 780 is the finest miter saw I have ever used ,just wish they had put better bearings in it. And hopefully this repair will be covered under under my warranty because of the tension issue you pointed out. I have miter saws 30 years old that the bearings have not been replaced and still run fine.
I really liked the 708, I think its the King of the Miter saws. You can start on the edge of the board instead of into the board with the 780. Of course the 780 is a bit more compact. I'm planning on buying a 708 that needs bearings and putting some good Nachi sealed Japanese bearings in it. OEM: Dewalt DW718 / DWS780 / DW708 Miter Saw Replacement Ball Bearing (2 Pack) # N127530-2pk Here's the size I found: 6302-2NSE Nachi Bearing 15 x 42 x 13 MM
Sorry to be off topic but does anyone know a way to get back into an instagram account? I was dumb lost the password. I love any tricks you can give me
@Raphael Aryan Thanks for your reply. I found the site through google and im waiting for the hacking stuff now. I see it takes quite some time so I will reply here later with my results.
Saved me some money, thank you,,I passed on replacing the bearing and just put a new armature in for 85.00. Your video was perfect, took all the questions out.
Great video. Clear, concise and easy to follow. It has just saved me a small fortune in repairs and time locally (NZ). I was able to repair my Dewalt in a couple of hours at a cost $9.90c. Did heaps for my confidence too! Thank you very much :-)
Fantastic video. I will pre-order the bearings and get this done on my DW712! Thank you for putting the time and energy into this video for all of us, much appreciated!
Excellent Video. Very nicely explained. Professionally done. In India, we get a different kind of bearing pulling tool. It is a kind of tripod with a bolt in the centre. The tripod clamps the bearing and when the bolt is tightened, the bearing pops out.
I used this to repair my DW718. I thought it was ruined forever and a simple bearing replacement like you show here did the trick. With a bearing puller I removed the race as you showed, however, I didn't have an arbor press quite big enough to press the new bearing on. Here's what I did: I drilled a 9/16 hole with a paddle it in a 2x4 and placed it in a vice. I put the armature in the freezer for 4 hours. I placed the new bearing in the oven at 350F for 20 minutes. It slid on with literally no resistance when I tapped the bearing onto the shaft while using the 2x4 as a precision guide to align the bearing with the shaft.
Thanks for sharing! After 10+ years, my saw is finally ready for new bearings. Seems like they didn’t over tension the belt at the factory on my saw. The replacement looks pretty straightforward. I’m going for it. Wish me luck! 🍀 Cheers! 🍻👍🏻😊
Thank you so much. I followed you instructions and my saw works great now. I had never done a repair like this before and it was so helpful to see it done properly and explained. Excellent video!
perfect. I am a better carpenter than a mechanic but I will fly through this repair after watching your vid. Thanks so much. I live in a rural area of Alberta and not in the big cities too often to have repairs done.
Super cool I have the same saw, have already stripped it down and my bearings are in the exacted same condition as the one in your video. Very helpful 👍
Wow, awesome video. I just had the bearing go on my DW718. Belt was ridiculously tight. I wish I had been diligent enough to check the tightness of the belt. Bearing was making a noise for awhile. I wrote it off as bad brushes which I changed. I was in the middle of a job and bearing went before I finished. Thanks for the step by step process.
Thank you for the video. I repaired my saw although I have an older model so the process was slightly different. Nonetheless I couldn't have done it with out your instructions. Thank you again.
Thanks very much. Probably best tutorial I have found on this subject. So that is a good reason to follow you! Thanks again for all the time and knowledge you have shared.
Thank you so much I have to go pick up the parts this week and do it on my job so that was very informative. And I like to detail that was given thank you.
Great informative video. I would recommend cleaning the commutator bar with fine scotch brite whilst the armature is out, especially if there are signs of discoloration (dark areas).
Good video. Very informative and practical for a DIYer with simple (and accessible) tools. If the large bearing is only partially failed, you may need to pull all of the plastic (or metal) spacer bits out with a needle nose and push all of the ball bearings to one side before breaking the outer race in your vice. If the balls are evenly distributed within the race you won’t be able to break the race and you’ll probably damage your vice before the hardened steel of the bearing breaks.
I am humbled. And annoyed. And I feel really really dumb. My 780 suddenly made noise and the blade wouldn't spin and it sounded horrible when I turned it. I went to youtube and found this, and it sure sounded like my problem. So I found a bearing in town and got the armature out and both bearings were perfect. So were the brushes. But the blade still sounded bad and wouldn't spin even after the belt was off. So I checked it to see what I'd need to pull the blade. And that's how I found the thin little slice of four by four that had gotten sucked up into the blade and was caught between the blade and the housing. Way up there where it was hard to see. So I put it all back together and everything's fine now. Except I lost about half a day. And if that bearing ever does go, I'm ready now! Great video Jamie. Oh, and the belt tension did feel like it was kind of high so I'm probably better off now. :-)
Ours sounded like death. Boss said throw it away. So i kindly obliged... ;) thanks for the video and the TSB at the end. I feel like bearings, belts and a bearing vice should be in every trailer. It can shut a site down for the day.
Thank you so much I’m a subscriber now. I have many DEWALT tools never knew the belt was too tight from the factory. I always try and take the best care of my tools did I know the belt was too tight I would have adjusted it when I got it. Hopefully it’s not to late now I know thanks for the post
hi this is jose gonzalez i like the way you explane step by step do you know if the replace of the bearings on my dewalt tile wetsaw is the same proces
Jamie, my DW 708 type 4 saw is vibrating from the bearing that the blade rides On....do you have a video that covers the replacement of that bearing?....great professional video....the only question I have as a first time viewer and future repair guy is you did not cover the part no. of the bearing, etc. Thanks a bunch!
What is the best method to remove a pulley that is press-fit onto the armature shaft? I tried heating with a heat gun and using a puller but the pulley would not budge. In fact, I stopped applying pressure when the bottom groove on the pulley broke.
Had the same problem. Just broke my pulley trying to get it off via heat. Tried a puller and broke the bottom of the pulley. Got frustrated and cut it off to have a look. No keyway. Guess I'll just order a whole new armature.
Very helpful tutorial. I just got a used 705 saw. The seller said the blade brake didn’t work anymore. Can you refer me to a RU-vid or link to information as to how to fix this problem? Thank you Gary
I have a DWS780 and had a hell of a time getting the belt wheel off. It doesn’t seem to have the two splines behind the pulley. I didn’t even have the screw on the end. Needless to say I messed the threads up trying to keep heating up and pulling off. Any reason why my set up would be different than yours?
Hi i saw your vid . I have this question for you I changed the barring the way you showed me in your video And when i assembled it back And plugged it When i turn it on It spins backwards Can you tell me what it caused it?
Is there a bearing on the other side where the belt holds on. Where the blade gets hold on.. an if so.. can u get a link to see it.. thanks.. grate video
Cool video. I have the 718 type 2. The base is cracked. Can you do a video on the proper procedure to change out the base and reset & realign/square the saw> I might be over complicating it but would be helpful.
Hi Jamie, I have a Dewalt Miter saw Dw716 Double Bevel was working fine then it just stopped some smoke came out from the rear black cover. I thought it was the brushes so I changed them. Still have no power at all. can it be the actuator or the armature? please help.
I have an Dewalt DW706 miter saw that has recently had a grinding noise when I let my hand off the trigger and it powers down. Is this a symptom of bad bearings in the motor?
Thank you for this! I can tell you have done this a few times :) Wondering why the bearing outer broke in half in vice? Wouldn't it just bend? Mine bearing is bad but not is not falling apart like that so squeezing it seems like would be much more difficult with the full complement of balls still in it. Assume from your technique any other puller would not work with the tight clearance to the fan. For others who may want to pre-order the large bearing its a 6302 RS is what comes up (rubber sides). The existing big end bearing on my older saw was 6302LB which matches specs in x reference. Also, have you greased the blade end gears? Mine seem by feel and sound to dry, its seen heavy use from prior owner and some from me, and would you consider a how to on that bearing as well? I"ll look at it but always good to have instructions. Cheers! I have some how to videos with good info and bad camera work FYI :)
just wondering what or where can i get information on the bearings required,,and brushes..I have a DW 717 that needs bearings replaced ,and will do brushes at same time
My DWS779 is fairly new and I haven’t used it yet since I got it about two months ago, should I check the belt tension and adjust it if needed to help the longevity of the bearings?
Used a butane torch to warm the pulley and it slid right off. Never did I imagine it be that easy. My cheap vise won’t crack the outer race; moving towards heat and beat or cut.
