I like messing with batteries,, and I like fixing stuff,, so trying to fix a broken battery,, is a win win :-)
In a previous video, My fix was not optimal,, the old cells I had laying around,, was only 1,2ah,, where the DeWalt cells was 2,6ah.
Now some 1,7AH cells has surfested, and also some 3th.Part - Dewalt 18V replacement Batteries,, that we have a good look at.

Even just 1$ a month, comes out to the same as Binge-watching like 400+ of me Videos every month.
My PlayHouse is a channel where i will show, what i am working on. I have this house, it is 168 Square Meters / 1808.3ft² and it is full, of half-finished projects.
I love working with heating, insulation, Servers, computers, Datacenter, green power, alternative energy, solar, wind and more. It all costs, but I'm trying to get the most out of my money, and my time.

Here in the states these batteries cost 2/3 as much as the tool itself, so we typically use these batteries until heir on their last legs and then replace them. I have a new Dewalt set and it's awesome, never knew a little 20 volt impact could remove lug nuts off a car. The batteries also seem to last forever on a charge.

All good stuff. A couple of ideas... a heat gun is handy to soften glue when dismantling batteries (most dismantling jobs these days). Also, I was waiting for the sparks when you hooked up the power supply, I would put a bit more insulation on the crocodile clips just in case. Great video!

I think that the problem with using lower capacity cells isn't that much the fact that they lose charge faster, but the fact that they also recharge faster. So, if it's a fast charger, it will murder the low capacity cells, because they will reach top of charge, while the rest is still discharged. A lot of current will continue to flow thru all cells until the entire pack is fully charged.

You have a good point there.

Would be interesting to see you take some protected 18650 or other Lithium Ion cells and rebuild a pack like this

I wonder of the apparent high failure rate of the cells at the center of a 7-cell cluster could be because they are susceptible to the heat from the high currents used by a power tool, and with less opportunity for cooling. All the other cells are not surrounded by such heat sources on all sides.
@MyPlayHouse
@MyPlayHouse 5 лет назад
Hi Johnnie Hougaard Nielsen It's a good theory,, it could also be vibractions from the tool,, glad you liked the video :-) Thank you for watching! :-)

I was wondering if your fancy battery charger could charge then discharge each cell and give you a capacity in Mah, or does it only do lithium ion batterys. People think voltage is everything, without capacity it means nothing.
@MyPlayHouse

Hi zx8401ztv Thank You very much! I do believe it can do that also with Ni-MH cells. Thank you for watching! :-)

Have you tried using a spot welder to attach the metal to the battery rather than soldering? Perhaps the soldering is the weak point?

I avoid Ni-MH batteries whenever possible since they never seem to last and never have enough power. I have a bunch of tools that use them sitting around all with dead batteries.
@Seegalgalguntijak

Many cells - if they are not shorted - can be revived, i.e. with a Re-EMF charger that pulses a relatively high voltage but low amperage into them very quickly (in the kHz range), of course discharging and recharging them is also necessary for "conditioning" several times. The cells don't even get hot when charged with these Re-EMF pulses. The circuit is basically the same as a Joule Thief, which fires back-EMF pulses into the cell. But of course, it mustn't be overcharged with that either (which is much harder that way though).

It might be a thermal issue with this battery pack, when it's always the cell that has one on top of it that dies.

Why don't you get yourself a battery spot welder - it would make jobs like this and your battery bank so much easier. GreatScott! recently did a video on making one himself or you could get one of the kit ones he mentioned - kWeld.

Any battery composition is better than a Li-Po battery those things are super dangerous if anything happens to them.
@MyPlayHouse
@MyPlayHouse 5 лет назад
Hi Hunter's Moon The Energy density of a Li-ion battery is 0.36-0.875 (MJ/KG), TNT is 4,2,, or 10x as much,, Body fat is 38 or 9x of TNT,,, so if you ever want to lose a pound,, drop it slowly!! :-) Thank you for watching! :-)

morton, nimh is a waste of time. In order to make a good pack you would need to seperate each cell and stick them in the opus and run a few test cycles on them to find their capacity in mah like you do for 18650's. Then take the best 14 cells and make a new pack.
@MyPlayHouse
@MyPlayHouse 5 лет назад
Hi David Smith Thank You very much! Yes,, this is most likely a waste of time,, and checking all the cells,, would take a long time,, and those 3TH party batteries was like $18 I only did this much because I love fixing stuff. Thank you for watching! :-)

i am confused, why bother taking apart a perfectly good battery to fix an identical working one? its not really fixing anything. also you cannot mix cells of different capacities! they all have to match otherwise the smallest capacity battery will go bad first.

And sometimes it's because of the effort to make it extra good! But as long as it works, and no one get electrified (😂), everything is fine! But you are a responsible mechanic (electrician), and it's recognizable 👍🏻
