China's military strategy has undergone significant evolution, with a sharp focus on Anti-Access/Area Denial (A2/AD) capabilities designed to counter U.S. naval power in the Pacific. At the heart of this strategy is the DF-21D, the world's first anti-ship ballistic missile (ASBM), often dubbed the "carrier killer." Join us as we delve into the capabilities of the DF-21D, exploring how this advanced missile represents Beijing’s commitment to deterring U.S. intervention in regional conflicts, particularly in sensitive zones like the Taiwan Strait and the South China Sea. Discover the implications of this formidable weapon on global naval dynamics and regional stability. going by their other weapons they could probably aim at a carrier off Australia and hit London!!

Interesting weapons system. China's ability to use its own technology for the weapon's system is an ability most nations would envy.

I agree that it is a game changer, but the principle is not considered a ground breaking in the end modern short-range ballistic missiles can pursue moving ground targets, for example attacking a convoy of combat vehicles using anti-armor or dual-purpose sub-munitions. In contrast, a large sea target in the size of an aircraft carrier (the largest naval combat targets) has a length of 333m and sailing at a maximum speed of 56 km/h, it can be easily discriminate from its surroundings and attacked from high altitudes, bearing in mind that laser guided artillery rounds has to distinguish its ground target inside 1km2 circle despite heavy ground clutter at much lower altitude than ballistic missiles, especially if the target is illuminated by a laser or the naval target (aircraft carrier) is tracked by a drone, an early warning, command and control aircraft (AWCS) or aground surveillance and command and control aircraf, managing ground operations of JSTAR or a naval ship equipped with advanced long-range reconnaissance, surveillance and tracking sensors, a submarine or a satellite, and updating the movement or the coordinates of the carrier group to the ballistic missiles data Link or communication suit... However, China would need to launch thousands of DF21/DF26 missiles in order to be able to hit an aircraft carrier and defeat the multi-layered missile shield surrounding it. the aircraft carrier groups.of what is provisionally called the united states of america still enjoy the highest levels of protection against conventional missile threats such as ASCM and emerging ones, such as ballistic missiles ASBM, especially when compared to the mobile ground-based multi layered missile shields such as thaad system and patriot system the latter is considered a fragile and weak shield and can be overwhelmed and defeated easily... However, the missile is still suitable for pursuing logistic supply ships of western combat fleets, as well as commercial ships, both sailing at low speeds and mostly deprived from most advanced escort assets...

A whole lot of gibberish. It's safe to assume these aren't like homemade rockets being fired at an Iron Dome.

@@CG_CA Yes, I agree that these missiles are more advanced and developed even than the Russian 9K720 Iskander missiles, especially when negotiating moving targets, although attacking targets in the open seas is considered an easier task compared with pursuing a column of vehicles especially when moving at speeds inside a complex topographical environment, but it is not about mathematics or algorithms to calculate the flying path or the trajectory of these quasi ballistic missiles, many problems remain, even with the huge progress made in the PLA’s reconnaissance, surveillance, and targeting capabilities, but the Chinese engineers had to slow down the speed of the warhead or the reentry vehicle to give it the ability to acquire the target using its organic sensors and then track it so that the flight control computer could direct the warhead towards the enemy ship, and this may constitutes one of the main weaknesses in the flying protocol of the missile, as for the ability of the reentry vehicle to conduct maneuvers to evading or dodging various levels of standard missiles most modern air defense systems with anti ballistic missiles capabilities can intercept quasi ballistic missiles the Ukrainian claims they managed to intercept even the hypersonic Kh-47M2 Kinzhal using the obsolete patriot system which is considered as points defense system in the multi layered ABM systems, with 1200 and 1700 km range for those Chinese ballistic missiles here I think the volume of the salvos will play important role in penetrating the multi layers ABM shield because even if PLA navy launched waves of its most modern hypersonic YJ18 with the maximum ranges of 540km to complicates the interception process, here we are talking the limit of the maximum range or engagement envelope of those missiles, which is not the problem, but ignoring the advance recon-strike capabilities of carrier group especially the fighter aircraft wings which conduct regular combat air patrol missions above the carrier's forming an extra layer of air defense umbrella where 540km not huge distance to cover in open seas, although I think PLA navy could firing this type of cruise missile from submarines from maybe 100 km and thus reducing the reaction time and avoid detecting the launching vessels, but the capabilities of intercepting those cruise missiles are another thing, so in the end when we have to predict the outcome of any duel between those anti ship's ballistic missiles and ABM shield we can not underestimating these ABM bubble surrounding the carrier group... regarding the unguided home-made rockets, these play an essential role in depleting Iron Dome ammunition, and I agree that their effectiveness is boosting the Palestinian moral and degrading the moral of the military and the general public in the so called israel, than any true tactical and operational effectiveness. However, the principle that says that quantity is a quality by itself is still valid in the theater of operations of occupied the Palestine, In the end, the zionist entity lacks the appropriate geographical depth to withstand a continuous waves of thousands or even hundreds of those rockets in each burst while focusing on one city or a set of close targets located within single air defense sector... each iron dome launchers equipped with 20 missiles, while the Palestinians didn't fired more than 40 home- made rockets in each salvo attacking different cities, so we can not say the iron dome tested to it's limit and passed this trial successfully...
