It really is funny. Sometimes I think the DF crew could benefit from a trip to the steam hardware survey and find that a 4070 Super is probably going to be seen as "reasonably high end" for most people. Beyond that is definitely high end lol.

Xbox has gone through it's PS5-curious phase and no it's ready to brake the news to it's parents that it wants to be played with by both Xbox and Playstation gamers.
I really hope S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 is polished on launch. I have high hopes for this game and the dev team do deserve a lot of praise for all they've been through.
I love everyone on the DF crew, but over the last few months my appreciation for Oliver has really increased. He has a very soothing voice and I like it when he gets really excited about stuff and like the others knows his stuff. I could just sit and listen to the DF crew talk tech all day

40:55 I actually really like that idea of crowdsourcing testing for PC versions of games as long as it’s clearly communicated to customers that the demo’s purpose is to make sure the final game is in good shape for launch. I’m willing to give developers the benefit of the doubt that testing a huge game on countless different configurations just isn’t feasible; you’re talking about having to order tons of NVIDIA and AMD GPUs, then Intel and AMD CPUs, RAM sticks from different manufacturers, different motherboards, and having to mix-and-match all of those in every possible way to cover your bases.
Server stress tests have been a thing for a while now. As well as Public (Open) Beta tests. As long as the company is transparent about their actions, it's all fine. I actually participated in the Closed Alpha fro DOOM 2016 on the PS4 back in the day.
@@Manganization Not really, they would still do some QA testing on console versions and a range of PC hardware configurations internally, it's just impossible to test with the breadth of settings / hardware / system configurations people will use out in the wild. One isn't really a replacement for the other.
@@NoradNoxtus Stalker Anomaly isn't the original game. It's a nice reskin with blows and whistles for military sim fans who happen to also like the Stalker setting. Once Stalker 2 comes out and opens for modding we're gonna see new Anomaly's, Misery's and Dead Air's. I'm specifically rooting for the original.
I still don't think having multiple store fronts on an Xbox is the win it's made out to be. They don't get revenue from Steam or Epic games sales. And isn't the whole argument that people want their digital libraries central to keeping an Xbox, as you all keep saying? The clear frustration is people saying 'I should have switched', digital libraries aren't the be all and end all that Phil Spencer said it is. Someone else put it well when they said Phil and Microsoft are good at making their problems seem universal.
Lower the budget for games. Nobody told Sony to spend 300m on Spider-Man. Nobody is telling these companies to pour all this money into live service looter shooters that put them in the red and lack imagination. Microsoft Xbox couldn’t even get HALO to launch with their system. These are management problems. Going to other platforms doesn’t cure a bad boring game experience. What game has sold 50 million across all platforms. That’s rare. Nintendo doesn’t seem to have these problems
@@techsamurai11 sony's leak had a breakdown, basically graphics and animation, team size and visual fidelity for assets. The rules of thumb is that the cost of a single employee is 10k a month, 300 employees x 12 month x 5 years x 10k = 300 x 600k = 180M then add marketing cost which is double the dev cost then add outsourcing payments. Goes up fast. Looking at the reception of star wars outlaws facial downgrade, which was the highest cost in spiderman, you understand.

Obviously, if we change the duration to 10 years and the team size to 600 employees, we are now looking at a whopping $720 million to make Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic with Ray Tracing added 🙂 Bioware on the other hand developed 9 superb games in 11 years and didn't have Unreal Engine or work on a machine with the same tools as any other platform. Also, very surprised that marketing costs as so high for Sony Studios since they can advertise anywhere on the Playstation or create a dynamic theme that sells the game 🙂 (well, they got rid of themes on the PS5). They can literally offer free play to all players for a few hours. Just send a free copy to DF and a few sites and marketing is done.

That works because you reused the formula to figure out some bad argument: Bioware made 9 games in lower spec machine that ask for less fidelity and therefore less people. If you ps3 level graphics and scope, then yes you can make more games cheaper and faster. Question is, will the market accept ps3 level graphics and level in 2024? We have that answer with Starfield and star wars outlaws being mocked to oblivion. You seems to assume administrative and marketing department is run by magic, these are people you have to pay, hence the cost, 10k per employee is general company rate, not specific to dev. People like to eat and pay rents.
I'm not an Xbox fanboy, but I actually understand their anger. It's not about being "jealous" of more people playing their games. It's about having invested into the Xbox platform because it was the only place to play Xbox exclusives, when they could have bought another console and still play those Xbox games AND the Sony exclusives.
MS games on Xbox always will be better than on PlayStation - games are on Game Pass Ultimate on Day 1 - games support Xbox Play Anywhere so single copy work on both Xbox and PC with synchronized save files - games work better because hardware is faster Some of my friends use PlayStation 5 and they are always surprised that I can play Xbox games like Valheim not only on my console but also on my handheld (ROG Ally) with all save files synced. This is beauty of Xbox Play Anywhere
Yeah the biggest source of frustration is Microsoft signaling that the Xbox is the Worst platform to play their games, and their fans should've invested on any other console or PC instead.

I wish someone on the panel would discuss the ramifications for Xbox hardware consumers, and how this move could / will lead to more third party games missing the platform. The reality is moving to make all of your games multiplatform has a direct impact on how many people buy your hardware, which in turn affects how many developers and publishers support it. I’m all for more games going everywhere, but not at the expense of hardware consumers who somehow have to get through the next two or three years, watching their console get deprioritized more and more by other third parties. Giving another company’s hardware consumers a value-add without providing a value-add to your own hardware consumers sucks. If Microsoft was at least close to getting Steam, EGS, and GOG support on its Series consoles in the next six months, this wouldn’t be an issue. Instead, its hardware consumers are left wondering why it’s “one more thing” announcement at Gamescom was announcing support for hardware owners who actively chose to go without Xbox-exclusive titles, as opposed to “here’s how we’re fixing the problem of games skipping Xbox consoles.” While a portion of the negative sentiment has been “don’t give away my exclusives” fanboy drivel, I believe not discussing the ramifications for the next three years on Xbox hardware consumers does the entire discussion a huge disservice, and ignores a consumer base that may not be as big as Sony’s or Nintendo’s, but is decently sizable in its own right. This move may be great for the industry (and / or necessary for Xbox and its developers), but it’s not the entire picture, and shouldn’t be the only focus whenever this topic comes up. Yea I agree Honestly Xbox has done nothing but make me regret buying a series X. Especially now that I got a decent gaming PC, and STALKER 2 still isn't even out!! 😂😂 (main game I bought series X for) I can't blame them for my poor foresight (wasnt expecting to get a PC), but they've also slowly widdled away every reason I had to buy one Including backwards compatibility and FPS/res boost. Nobody was expecting them to give up on those programs not even a year after launch. It was a total slap in the face and I don't believe their excuses for 1 second
I've been playing games on Xbox for 15 years. I've built a collection of games on that console. If a publisher skips Xbox it means they don't want my money. I don't see a problem with that. I just buy next game from someone else. There are thousands of games.
Very good point, and this has kind of been my feeling with xbox's decision to go multi-plat. It doesn't bother me at all that other people get to play games published by xbox, and in the case of multiplayer games, it's actually good for the player base. But it's certainly going to hurt console sales. So will we get to a point where there are so few xbox gamers that 3rd party titles start skipping xbox entirely? Personally I don't think we'll see current gen sales atrophy to the point that 3rd party publishers can just skip the console, but that's just speculation on my part. Next gen might be a different story, but as the DF guys keep saying, maybe you'll be able to load multiple store fronts, so it won't really be an issue.
I can sympathize with people who bought a console specifically because they thought it was the only way to play a certain game. It feels bad to drop $500 on a box only to realize you never should've bought it. They're not mad that a game is going to more platforms, they're mad they spent money on a machine that doesn't do anything unique. It's buyers remorse. With every exclusive no longer being exclusive the console manufacturers are sending the message loud and clear that they don't want us to buy their next console.
I am sorry to say, that as a PC owner and an owner of every Xbox since the first, I saw this coming a mile away. And intentionally did not buy an XBox Series Console. My Xbox one X is now essentially a lost platform as all my games are on PC or PS5. I only jump on there to play a few games still orphaned on that machine or to hit up Gamepass if my PC is not working ( XBox One X is still a solid machine) I get it though, Microsoft could have ripped of the bandaid earlier. But I have a feeling the hardcore XBoxers(I have a few friends still mainly on that platform) out there, honestly dont care about any of this and will continue to invest in their XBoxes. Its kind of hard for me to feel sympathetic in this case. Either you saw the writing on the wall years ago, or you just ignored it, in which case you shouldnt really care and just enjoy your XBox.

2:02:40 actually Daniel Owen did just that, and he found out that the 4060ti 8Gb was struggling in some games and not in others. The 16Gb was ok on performance for the most part so the limiting factor many times was the VRAM, i think is quite "amusing" to say the least to ask people to lower their textures at 1080p/1440p on their 400$ MSRP brand new card. Also the 4060ti 8Gb is ok right now in like 80% of new games fine, but what about 2025-2026-2027? I would assume that if you buy a 400$ graphics card in 2023 you're not going to change it until at least 4 years being generous, so 2027. Are we sure games are going to be ok with 8Gb of VRAM at that point? If the 16Gb card can run at 60fps with DLSS quality at 1080p (the video shows VRAM issues even at 1080p sometimes) in 2027 but you have to play at medium or even low textures on the 8Gb one to avoid stuttering (frame gen and RT use VRAM both also). Idk man, i think is very disingenuous from youy side to say "well the PC experience is all about allocating your resources on the right settings to get good performance" when we all know the problem here is Nvidia selling 400$ GPUs with 8Gb of VRAM in 2022/2023 and then up charging you like Apple 100$ for 8Gb of "extra" VRAM because they knew it was, it is and it is going to be a problem.
Console gamers who get upset by "platform polyamory" have been thoroughly brainwashed by these giant companies who have convinced them that the other guys not having a game is somehow added value for you. It does nothing for you. Platform exclusive culture does nothing for the customer except increase your chances of not playing certain games unless you shell out more money for a second or even third console. The only people who won from these deals were the companies themselves, who were leveraging against the competing companies and their players.
It's interesting to think that PS customers will end up being more valuable to MS than xbox customers, since PS gamers on average will represent a higher percentage of their income from game sales. I wonder what that will mean in the future. Game pass is such a disaster, honestly. I wonder if they would have been forced to publish on PS5 at this point if game pass never existed.
I'd say the future is even more uncertain for Sony. They are testing the waters on PC but not fully committing like they do on console, they tried VR without fully committing to support it like they do their console. They tried handheld without fully committing like they do their console. Now Sony is realizing the games that brought success to PlayStation are costing too much money, which is why we see fewer and fewer AAA games published by Sony. That's why they pivoted to online games, while overpaying for Bungie who can't seem to get content out at a steady pace which is why Activision dropped them, and now Sony is regretting that decision because PlayStation owners have shown they don't want them aside from Helldivers 2. Sony's only real option if they want to keep gamers locked in is to try and moneyhat more third party games or make smaller AA titles. Otherwise Sony will need to release games day one on PC, the console space is not growing at the same rate as development costs are. That's why we seen so many cross gen titles. How many AAA PS5 only games have been published by Sony so far?

Xbox needs to grow and they can't pull a Nintendo. The only way is to grow is to open up for everyone including HW vendors such as Asus, MSI alike. Ms focus on reference HW, Xbox OS and Games.
People do not understand the basic fact that it doesn't help Xbox in any way. Yes, it will get a lot more people to buy an xbox but what good does that do when the Xbox console is sold at a loss? The whole point of subsidizing the console is to make money through selling games on their store. Putting Steam on a Xbox console is like inviting your popular competitor to put up shop beside your store. Yes, you've managed to get a crowd outside your store but you are making no money from it. 😂

I hope the Black State game is not just a graphics achievement demo game, like the game looks amazing yes but the gameplay was pretty much what you see in a graphics demo for a game engine, I mean the game looked empty not in the game map that part looked amazing and that's a huge achievement, that's movie level graphics in real time right there but gameplay wise it looked empty.
Developers have stated that for the nvidia demo they have removed most of the gameplay elements from the level to showcase the graphics and just kept some of the combat sequences to show the performance during intense moments.
Xbox is moving in the wrong direction and I think people are finally understanding and rejecting it. Xbox is pushing DRM, persistent internet connections, digital only games that still cost full price, shoving all this into a locked ecosystem where they control everything, slowly conning their userbase into a worthless subscription that keeps jacking the prices up while providing no extra value to warrant it. I'm sad to see them go this way, I loved the OG and 360, but the One and Series consoles are just awful. They have absolutely destroyed the integrity of their IP's, and now that they're trying to buy relevance by throwing money at other studios, they're slowly ruining other people's IP's now too. I play on consoles for one main reason, physical copies that I can play offline. PS5 and Switch largely provide this, and most of my library is physical. Xbox physical copies on the other hand, are useless since most of them having nothing on the disc (Halo Infinite) or won't play unless the system has some stupid update. I'm done with Xbox. I have a PC if I really want a new AAA game, but even then, I'd often rather take the graphical hit and own a physical copy on a console and play it there until a Steam sale comes along.
Yeah I’m in the same boat. I did get some enjoyment out of my series s, and enjoyed gamepass, but comparing the Xbox of today to the og console, is pretty disheartening. The writing has been on the wall for awhile, and even while mostly playing my ps5 I did hope to see ms bring Xbox back to life, competition is good for the gaming market, but it doesn’t look like that’s gonna happen.
Microsoft have no idea what they are doing. You either release Indiana Jones day 1 on PS5 or you don't announce it until 6 months time. Trust me, there are a lot of PS5 owners that would potentially buy an Xbox console to play a great exclusive game. And once bought, they'd spend more money on other games and a Gamepass sub. Instead, now they'll simply wait. MS might get the game sale in 6 months time but miss out on add-on sales. Seriously, with Xbox's brilliant show recently, a lot of non-Xbox owners would have been planning to finally grab a console for Indy, or Perfect Dark or many of the other MS first party games. Microsoft just keep contradicting their own strategy.
The problem is that Microsoft has to sell software. If PS5 owners buy an Xbox and sub to Game Pass to play the game, then Microsoft loses on software sales that they could've gotten by having those PS5 owners wait for the PS5 port. Another problem is that there are too many cooks in Microsoft's kitchen. I'd bet that Phil didn't want to make that announcement of Indy going to PS5 just yet, because Phil wants to push Game Pass subs. However, Satya needs to make the investors happy, and what makes investors happy is knowing that Indy will be selling on the PS5 sooner rather than later.
Most PS4 owners (i.e. the ones still playing on one with no PS5), get whatever console mummy and daddy buy them for Christmas, and play COD, Roblox, GTA online, their usual yearly sports game, and fortnite. They buy almost NOTHING else, they don't play Uncharted, or Last of Us, or that state sponsored monkey communism game, or Stellar Blade, or Final Fantasy, or Halo, or Gears, or Forza, or Gran Turismo, maybe Spiderman and Indiana Jones, but not Stalker or Avowed or Killzone or Resistance when SONY still made them. Now, this Christmas, for under $300, mummy and daddy can buy them a console that gets free COD games for life, and they can play GTA, Fifa/Madden/NBA2k/NHL, Fortnite and Roblox on it too, or $500 and another $70 on top for COD. X-box has got mummy and daddy on lock for as long as COD is on gamepass. Almost zero children are going to get bought a playstation for Christmas from now on. You're looking at it as a gamer, not looking at the cheapest way to buy your 8 year old COD and Roblox.
The problem is ultimately that the "value proposition" of the XBox is "lowered" relative to the Playstation by bringing XBox games to the PS5. After all now you can play Sony, Microsoft AND third party games on PS5... You can play Microsoft... and a DECREASING library of third parties on XBox (as some devs have stopped porting games over). And Sony does NOT port games over to the XBox. So the only reason to own an XBox now is for Game Pass, a service so unprofitable it's only getting worse and worse with i.e. Day 1 games slowly being phased out. So for XBox owners it has only been a downhill track, they have only gotten less or rather "not more" while the PS5 got more and more, and now even Microsoft's support... so why did they buy an XBox? What do they get out of it by that point?
That reminds me of an interesting observation (non-gaming related) I made: For some people, giving the same privileges they already had to other people as well feels like loosing privileges. But of course that's not true. The thing is: No Xbox player loses anything when Microsoft decides to release their games on PS5 as well. It increases the PS's value proposition, but the Xbox's stays exactly the same.

And while not losing content/features, this decision will weaken the Xbox console in perspective to the direct competitor. In the grand scheme of a market perspective this can shift the interest of players and developers alike.
@@LordRaydenTube If that leads to multi-platform games not being released for the Xbox because of its comparatively small market share, that would be a problem indeed. I don't think that will happen on a broader scale though. 25 mil is less than 60 mil, but it's still a lot of potential customers.
Regarding the first entry: I chose PlayStation. Some people choose Xbox. Heck, some even bought both for their own reasons. I care which platform I play on, but I don't care which platform you choose. Pick the one you care for and have fun. I also don't think much of exclusive games. I wish people didn't have to choose platform based on exclusivity.
I’ve been on Xbox since 2012, I don’t necessarily have a problem with Xbox exclusives going multiplatform, that’s just business. The problem I have is this has been a one way street. It took 11. fucking. years, for Xbox to finally get Final Fantasy XIV, and that’s not even Sony made, that’s Square Enix. You ask anyone if Xbox will ever get an actual Sony production even from a 2nd party developer, and they’ll tell you it’s nothing more than a pipe dream
I find it funny and disrespectful that Xbox told the fans to watch Gamescom opening night to went on the stage and and wave the white flag announcing a game even before release on their own and even the standard game pass user will not have it at least a year
Xbox will only get Sony games if/when Sony will find itself in deep trouble after years of decline, and at that point you may not even want their games.
That's one of the reasons I ditched Xbox. Square Enix obviously doesn't care about them, I remeber being so jealous that Ps3 users got the KH collections. Xbox didn't get a single KH game until 2019 and it was the worst one to start with.

Making the PC experience more accessible for people that are not PC savvy is absolutely the right move. Let people do way more with their Xbox than they can do with their Playstation.
Making the system that's optionally open to tinkering, like a Steam Deck, does kind of throw the model of subsidised hardware into question though. Valve have taken the risk that selling the hardware cheap, even though users can still install alternative stores (e.g. I have both Epic and EA stores on my Deck) will be worth it, because buying through Steam is the path of least resistance. And it's worked out for them. But what Valve considers a success in this regard is probably quite different to Microsoft's expectations.

They can make money by selling the platform itself, like Asus does, and not hope to sell it at a loss just to recover that money with software sales. Unlike Sony, Microsoft has a lot on PC, and I'm not talking jusr about Windows. Game Pass is something they are doing right, and a lot of PC gamers use, same as regional pricing on their store. The Xbox store on PC pretty good, probably the second best option after Steam. They own a lot of franchises now, some that aren't even on consoles (yet another reason to make something closer to a Rog Ally), and they can make money with games. I think they are going in that direction tho. I don't have reasons to think they aren't, and if they do things right, they are truly going to be ready for the jump to the next gen of consoles, when a lot more people are going to leave consoles behind.

The number of people who want their consoles to do more than play games i.e. act like a PC is an insignificant amount. People buying consoles want easy of use and to not have to think about settings or care about browsing the internet or whatever. It's not directly comparable to the Steam Deck, because that is targeted at PC users who want a portable gaming system and therefore are more in tune with needing and wanting to tweak settings.
I think you guys have either downplayed the Xbox situation or are a little short sighted. It’s looking like Xbox is the next Zune. If the user stops buying Xboxes, what happens to peoples digital libraries they have built up when Microsoft stop making hardware

It's insane to think that Microsoft would spend that kinda money on Bethesda that has been multiple platforms. To turn around and only sell it on their hardware. The amount of sales lost would be massive

Can I tell you something interesting Imagine 60mil users, thats the PS5 already. They only spend $70 for the entire year, no PS+. Just a single $70 on a 3rd party game, microtransactions, battelpasses. Just taking the 30% cut is $1.2bil and PS invested nothing into making that money The amount of copies Indiana Jones Xbox would need to sell at $70 to make that amount of money? 18mil copies need to sold at full price to match the revenue but dont forget Indiana Jones development cost needs to come from those sales. While that 30% cut is just selling games on your storefront You keep the games exclusive, so that people invest into the platform and have millions pay the 30% cut every month Why do you think PS will spend to get 3rd party exclusives? So that they can build a userbase to get that 30% and gain repeat spenders for the entire generation
@@imo098765Indiana Jones isn't a system seller, neither was Starfield. That's precisely the issue. Xbox hasn't had system sellers for a long time now. The economics of PS Studios and third parties like Zenimax/Activision/Blizzard are fundamentally different. Microsoft tried your strategy already, Starfield, Hi-Fi Rush, Hellblade 2, and simply failed.
I'd imagine the dynamic RT mode in dragon age would maybe be something like RT shadows in dialogue scenes or cutscenes, where lower frame rates might be fine, but the image quality benefit for characters and cinematic presentation might be considerable. Could see them doing that for console too potentially. No RT in normal gameplay, but enhanced image quality in dialogue/cutscenes. Would make sense for an RPG.
The thing that irritates me about the Xbox fans screaming about PS5 Indiana Jones is, Phil Spencer hasn't gone back on anything he has said previously, if anything he's following through on what he said earlier in the year that they will review cross platform games on a per game basis. They did 4 and this is just another one BUT they have loads of new games coming over the next year. Its not about other consoles or platforms getting the game, its about them not wanting Sony gamers to get their gands on it. And as an Xbox owner who really enjoys his xbox and alternates between that and PS5 I have no problem with them finding a way to get a larger audience to make more money when they just don't have the hardware sales. These so called fans really just want Xbox to die don't they, otherwise they'd get over themselves and understand its just a business. Not to mention, the rumours were that Bethesda weren't happy being forced to make Starfield exclusive, so this is a step in the right direction when it comes to managing their companies' wants. We're not 12 year old boys in School back in the 90s any longer.
The Xbox situation is pretty simple, more people will skip the console, which means less players. So more games will skip Xbox (this is already happening). It's not a console war issue and I don't understand how all of you missed that point. And no, the PC is a separate market, is way more expensive than consoles and a different way to play games, so it's not the same.
I find it weird that everyone is treating Indiana Jones as a sure hit when the last movie was anything but that. It actually lost a lot of money and was one of the least profitable movies of 2023.
I haven't cared about Indy for decades. If the game is good, I'll get it; if not, not. Not complicated. It could've been called Jndiana Iones as far as I'm concerned.
Machine games has also been on the decline, imo. Wolfenstein New blood wasn't as good as new Colossus, which wasn't as good as old blood, which wasn't as good as new order. I hope they turn it around and make something really quality, but nothing I've seen so far has me sold Also I really wish they'd remaster/remake the new order on the latest idtech engine. Going back to play it now, it feels like the game is faster than the engine it's running on. It's such a genuinely good game that's held back by the technology of the time
When they announced the closure of Tango and Arkane with already knowing Indy is no longer the blockbuster everybody still makes it out to, it felt like the writing is already on the wall that Machine Games will be next...

I’ve been waiting for a reason to buy an Xbox for years now. I’ve been waiting for good games. If everything that I was looking forward to playing on Xbox is going to PlayStation eventually then I’ll just wait. There’s no need to buy an Xbox at all lol.

Our concern is completely understandable, I want to upgrade from XBOX Series S (that cost me nothing) to a more powerful console, what is the point of having an XBOX Series X against PS5? A couple of frames more on Alan Wake II? Microsoft needs to understand that their change of vision to "Exclusive good games are not going to sell more Xbox consoles" do not convince me at all, and for sure a lot of people are in the same opinion as me. Playstation is a very strong brand on Europe, and with that idea they're accepting that XBOX console is dying, how to not be worried?
People have invested thousands into the xbox ecosystem, and they are rightfully a bit betrayed by Phil's leadership. Xbox users could have just got a ps5, and they would have the best of both worlds, and that is what they are upset about.

Not enough people have Xbox consoles to recoup the massive investments that go into modern game development. They will have to release on PS5 or they'll need to cut budgets for exclusive titles. Do you prefer that? As a PS5 owner I'm not getting an Xbox, not gonna happen. I'd buy many of the games though if they were available.

While I generally think console loyalty behavior is dumb I kind of get it in this case. Assuming you bought a current gen console based largely on the outlook of exclusives this transition basically means buying an Xbox was for nothing unless you use Gamepass. Because instead you could have bought a PS5 and had access to all the Sony exclusives in addition to the MS games that are becoming multiplat. If I were only in a position to own one console and I'd chosen an Xbox this would definitely make me salty.

Those shots you're analyzing for FFXVI are actually from prerendered footage. There's a mod to unlock the 30fps cutscenes. Real-time scenes run at max framerate, the ones you're looking at here are still at 30 because there's nothing to unlock
Exactly. The Demo patch and Mod changed my opinion completely on the FFXVI PC version. So I went and pre-ordered the game as I can play it like that. I can take the pre-rendered 30fps cutscenes here and there if most of them are running at 144hz.
As someone who primarily plays games on my Series X (I have a PS5, Switch, and a 3070 PC) I’m glad to have some of our titles going to PS5… the more the merrier when playing these titles. However, it’s the way in which Xbox has been marketing that multiplat strategy that’s the issue. There was no good reason to show that Indy is coming to PS5 during an event to hype up the brand and the folks playing on that brand. If the goal is to 1) sell Game Pass subscriptions and 2) sell Xbox consoles then why show the timed-exclusivity? It just doesn’t make sense to me 🤷🏻♂️
I completely agree! Another youtuber, Brad Sams, made this point as well. Some people would have bought this on Xbox or subscribed to gamepass for it. But that number of people will now be fewer, since they'll just wait for it on playstation. It's just a bad business decision to announce this now instead of early next year. Also, the way they announced it was terrible. To say that there's one last thing, and for it then to be a PS5 announcement, almost felt like xbox was deliberately trolling xbox fans lol. I know it was Geoff Keighley's event, but I have to imagine xbox had plenty of input on how to make such a big announcement.

Why should the money they spent on the Xbox ecosystem be lost? You don't have to build your existing library back up on a different platform when you switch; your old hardware doesn't magically disappear, it will run the library just as well as before.

I think Rich is wrong. You have to have competition in the market place. That keeps prices down and innovation up and quality up. The problem is that Microsoft has given up, Nintendo is in the handheld market, and Sony is monopolistic in the market because no one is directly competing with Sony. And really, the only way for game companies can compete is to roll out a must have game for their console. And just becoming a 3rd party publisher is giving up. You have to have a gateway into gaming. And I just think that giving up is very disruptive to competition. We need a game company who will compete directly with Sony and build games exclusively for their console. Yes, growth is going to suffer when you have a company that is essentially rereleasing games that came out on their previous console. That was the perfect time for Microsoft to build some great IPs to compete with Sony. They didn't they kept coming out with dud, after dud. It's a shame. I think 5 years from now we're going to see game quality dip even lower because of the lack of competition.
I don’t think it’s necessary to have a competing games hardware manufacturer producing a near identical product to another (ala Xbox/PS5). Competition comes in different forms. Nintendo, PC, PC handhelds, and mobile gaming are all competing for gamers time. I think Xbox have learnt this lesson and are now looking at going in a different direction to take a different portion of the market rather than compete directly with Sony. Now I believe we know they are developing a console like handheld which could capture a new audience and interest those who typically play on PlayStation but like the idea of a mobile device. We can see the interest is there from how well the PS Portal did, as well as the plethora of other handhelds out there offering different experiences that have been hugely popular. I don’t think the story is over yet for MS hardware.

I’m playing on an LG C3 OLED in game mode so it’s not crazy terrible and I got used to it. It looks great IMO. Sharpening could be turned down but doesn’t look “fried” like the review exaggerated. I’ve gone back and forth between Quality and Performance and I don’t see how anyone can justify playing on Quality 30fps when there’s barely any difference.

1:20:00 I think toggling raytracing automatically could be a really good idea. It's an option you don't have to use, for people that may otherwise not use RT at all. Cutscenes could get it enables as fps is less important, and simpler environments that perform well could be brought back to par with better visuals. Almost like how planar reflections used to only be used in simpler rooms where there was already a lot of performance headroom
I'm glad Richard's comments on the matter of the disruptive Xbox non exclusivity policy are there to counterbalance Alex's rather shallow answer to this complex issue which comes down every time he is asked to this same statement: "yeah, sure, that's great for gamers", refusing to comment on the marketing dimension and even existential threat that this policy poses on consoles respective ecosystems.
Here’s what you guys are missing as to why Xbox gamers are so mad about what they have done. You guys get to play on both systems. It’s your job to review these things. For many of us, even adults like me, spending $500+ on a system is not trivial. So for many years we have had to choose between getting the PS5 or the Xbox at launch. For those of us that loved Halo that was an easy choice. For years PlayStation kept their awesome games exclusive to their platform while Xbox players languished with subpar games. Some of us held out because we loved our controllers so much and we hated to use the PlayStation controller. Through the destiny era many Xbox players watched as PlayStation players were favored and got exclusives for one year. The final fantasy 7 remake was announced with the same tease that we would get to play one year later on Xbox. This never happened. Now Xbox just gave away the few exclusives that were keeping us happy. It feels like a betrayal to the years of brand loyalty and holding on to the promise that Microsoft was spending a lot of money on making amazing games. Now that those games are coming out? Well guess what we could have been playing all the amazing games on PlayStation this whole time and lost out on nothing. You may not care but for many the response is a resounding F U Microsoft and we will never invest in their systems again.
I was going to subscribe to game pass for that game and other exclusives but I guess now I'll just buy it on PS5 where I prefer to have the physical copy I guess the experiment is over and now Xbox will simply be a publisher

As a gamer who always buys all the consoles. PS/Xbox/Nintendo I now ask myself WTF did I buy an Xbox?! I’d be so mad if I was an Xbox only guy and all the great games are going everywhere. What’s the point? I use my Xbox more of a 4K Blu-ray player these days than for gaming. Very sad.
Same man, got so fed up of 30fps and lack of games xbox sold first, ps5 sold as simply hated the controller. Switch still with me as huge Nintendo fan. Finding life so much better on PC and essentially get free updates for everything when I do get more hardware. Also crazy amount of free games with epic and that. Took a long while to join but truly regret being a console owner.
To be fair, we are getting to the point where the difference from PC, PS and Xbox is mostly just down to different spec levels and the odd few exclusive games that honestly, I feel the PC is overall winning out with getting the best of its own games and getting a lot of the exclusive games that are on PS or Xbox, it also gets most games that are on the Switch which many don't make it to other consoles, the PC started winning out the moment consoles started to become more PC like. We might also be seeing the early days of that with portable gaming with the Steam Deck and all the other portable PC gaming devices, they are not directly competing with the Switch, but the simple fact is, they are mostly running most of the same games that does make them a competitor and thanks to the Steam Deck, my interest in the Switch has dropped a lot and I have little to no interest in a Switch 2 when I could around then get a Steam Deck 2 that can play the majority of the same games plus far more games that the Switch 1 and 2 can't play as well as having all the other benefits of being an open platform. The PC is winning this war, even thought the likes of AMD and Nvidia have become really greedy on the gpu front, it doesn't seem to be harming PC gaming at all, in fact, it keeps getting stronger, and consoles are becoming more PC like with every gen that eventually, they might as well be a PC in a more refine hardware and software package, probably not that different from what Valve is trying to do with the Steam Deck and SteamOS and if PC gaming becomes much easier to do like Valve is trying to do, that could become a major threat to all consoles as that is one of the main strong points of consoles, ease of use.
I agree. Got the xsx for new games and backward compat. Well I play mainly on PC because of my investment of a 4080 and since Xbox has very few exclusives, there's no point in keeping it. I use my Xbox one x for backward compat and game on PC and ps5. Sold the xsx and purchased a nice RC Truck instead 😅

In my experience DLAA does not do as good as a job with specular highlight aliasing than dropping down to Quality mode DLSS. Often, I find myself confused when I have DLAA active only to then see a lot of shimmering on highlights to the point I question if it's even running. In the end I usually end up choosing Quality mode DLSS because it does in fact clean up those aliasing issues and it's tough to notice the difference between DLAA and Quality mode DLSS despite losing one-third of the resolution. As a bonus, the game runs much faster in those heaviest titles even on an RTX 4090.
I think MS's upper management screwed over Phil & the XB group by pursuing short-term profits at the expense of long-term viability. I'm not worried that XB hardware won't exist in the future. MS would lose too many GP subs & a platform where they keep all the profits (especially since Sony & Nintendo probably won't ever be allowing GP on their platforms). However, they are now handicapping the future of that new hardware. They never seem to understand why the 360 was so successful. MS seems to view games that aren't mega sellers as not valuable. But having genre variety & games that appeal to many different groups, regardless of size, is crucial for a system's success. Instead, they see their existing users mainly playing CoD or Apex or FIFA (FC soccer) & think "our users like these games, so make games these people buy," but that'll never attract new groups of people. MS pursuing Perfect Dark, Blue Dragon, Lost Odyssey, Oblivion, Eternal Sonata, Tales of Vesperia, Infinite Undiscovery, Mass Effect 1, Fable 2, Viva Pinata, etc. attracted many groups of people to the 360 & gave them confidence MORE games like these would be coming. With current XB, we see Hi-Fi Rush & think it's the start of something like this, only for them to abandon the studio & sell the IP... What?! Because it didn't become a MASSIVE hit, it wasn't worth their time apparently. That just sends the message these games won't be here in the future, so don't invest in our hardware. They want Doom, STALKER 2, Indiana Jones, Call of Duty, and every other first person game imaginable. No room to revive Banjo or make another Killer Instinct, no matter how well they're received, because they're not going to be monster sellers. Never expect to see another Hellblade again. Probably no more Crash either. Instead of tackling JRPGs, unique games, & exclusives like the 360 era, just pursue games as a service or big box office type games that our existing audience mostly plays anyway.

I think you guys (mostly Alex and Oliver) are a bit tone def. Rich mostly gets it. If you are a person who can only afford to buy one console and you had to choose between PS5 and Xbox you are likely making a conscious decision based on the games you want to play. These are not just plastic boxes to many of the people who purchase them. I know you are both PC gamers and could not care less, but it does beg the question as to why should anyone buy any Xbox moving forward if their consoles don't have an identity anymore.
Lack of exclusives doesn't mean lack of identity or usefulness. There is definitely an appeal to a low power, cost efficient, simple box that you can keep in your living room

I am happy to see first-party XBOX games hit other platforms. I like Rich's point as well about how some people invested into this platform to extend the life of their digital purchases (which I have many, many of, between Xbox One, 360 and OG Xbox backwards compatible titles). What irks me more is third parties seemingly bailing out of the XBOX ecosystem. Capcom's second fighting collection that was just announced, for instance, won't be coming to it.

FF16 PC demo is so weird, technically. It's like the cutscenes ignore your graphics settings and use its own graphics preset to render cutscenes, so it gives you the same garbage graphics as the PS5 version instead of utilizing your PC hardware.
Many of us XBOX series owners simply bought Xbox because you couldn't get the PS5, so I do understand the frustration when the "at least I have Xbox exclusives to play" copium runs dry as PS5 gets Xbox tittles.
It was a mix decision for me. I was Xbox only until the ps4. And then this generation I went back to Xbox because it looked like they had finally turned a corner and yes, they were slightly easier to find. But now as an Xbox owner I feel completely burned.
I bought an Xbox because I find the UX to be significantly superior to the PS5. I've owned 3 PS5's since launch because I fool myself into believing "I'll get on with it this time". I don't own a PS5 now. I still have the first Series X I bought.

I'm mainly a pc player but have am xbox series for my living room tv. Honestly I'm still happy with it over the ps5 because I mostly use it for game pass. I mean for example with Indiana Jones, I wouldn't feel very jealous of the playstation gamer who has to spent 50£ on the game when I got 3 years of game pass for 80£! (Sp cheap becsuse I got it when there were countless cheap codes for game pass ultimate on ebay)

Substract some overhead (Operating System etc.) and you get like 13.5 - 14.5 GBs In other words: The only viable VRAM option in a couple years is 16GBs, _if you want to smash that "Ultra" toggle._ Also: Hardware Unboxed made a Video about "how much your framerate can tank if your VRAM is too low" some time ago.
I don't mind xbox games going to PS5 (I game on PC, I guess that's why). But I do find it funny that Microsoft fought so hard to buy Activision and keep Call of Duty on their ecosystem, all the drama that happened, and they end up releasing the damn game on PS5 anyway.
They obviously shifted strategies hard and phill had to eat humble pie. Their exclusives just kept on disappointing like Starfield. I must admit I thought they were planning long term to make great exclusives. I read a lot of comments by Xbox users saying to be patient as future looked good for Xbox hardware.
My take on that is that Microsoft made a huge strategic mistake when they thought they could make their platform more attractive by buying studios and make existing IPs exclusive instead of building up new IPs, which - obviously - is much more difficult. It's a typical Microsoft move - just throw money at the problem until you crush all competition - but didn't work out at all this time and instead just created a huge backlash, from both customers and regulators. It was a gamble, and it failed.
I'm surprised it wasn't mentioned that if Sony does get all these Xbox ports AND the PS5 Pro is real, then wouldn't the PS5 Pro literally be the best way to play Xbox games on a console? I can understand why Xbox owners would be annoyed by the loss of Xbox exclusives. You'd think the best way to play Xbox games would be on Xbox, but instead you lose out on Sony exclusives AND you don't get the best performance for Microsoft games. So it kinda makes getting an Xbox a lose-lose situation.
