on Saturday the 18th of March, Feilding Steam Rail ran another one of their annual "Around the Block" trips hauled by DFB 7307.
The train traveled from Feilding Station to Palmerston North where the loco was turned before heading through the Manawatu Gorge to Woodville. Passengers enjoyed a run on the special balloon loop and from there the train turned onto the Wairarapa Line down towards Wellington, before heading back up via the Kapiti Coast to Feilding.
This is one of only a few trains that use the unused section of the Wairarapa Line between Pahiatua and Masterton. KiwiRail does not operate trains over this section anymore and therefore the line is old and quite a novelty nowadays. Due to the infrequent use of the line, trains often have to travel at slow speeds through farm crossings and over bridges.
Enjoy!
