@DividendGrowthInvesting

If you want to focus on total returns and keep it tax efficient, SPY and VOO can be a good option for a taxable account. You could always rebalance when you retire out of SPY/VOO into something like SCHD.

I've been touting Core and Satellite investing for a while and the timing of this video was perfect. My WPC holding just took a hit so I'll be disposing of it and another slow grower and putting the proceeds into treasuries via a Money Market Fund until there's a little more fear in the market. I'll tactically add to DGRW or DHS (or both) with existing funds over the remainder of the year, and new funds going forward.

Yeah I’m thinking we will see a 15-25% dividend reduction in WPC after the spinoff of their office buildings. I’m liking Dgrw and dhs. Just the expense ratio :(

I still think a split of SCHD + QQQ is the way to go. 100 stocks in each ETF gives you 200 companies. also no overlap with these 2 funds. 85/15 or 80/20

Hi Jake... great video!! Thanks. Question ... I watched a YT video recently that said the dividends you get paid from say an ETF fund, is really paid from the value of your stock. So if a dollar is paid as a dividend, it is just subtracted from your stock value. Can you do a video explaining this ;-) It is refereed to as "free-dividends fallacy" Thanks!!
@DividendGrowthInvesting
@DividendGrowthInvesting 9 месяцев назад
The dividends paid from these ETFs are from the cash dividends of the companies held in the index. What you are referring to is whenever a company pays a dividend, that amount is taken off their balance sheet and thereby reducing the value of the company. This is correct. However, good dividend growth stocks are cash flow positive and generate more cash and the dividend cycle continues.

I did some thinking on this very topic I have dgro but opted for DTD as a satellite... I use the overlap tool like you showed us and it's somewhere around 50% overlap... but DTD has like eight hundred and something companies in their assets.. so technically I'm getting exposure to 400 more companies with DTD and basically doubling down on the top 250 - 300 companies that they share together in the overlap..... anyways my question is even though there is a 50% and I would love to see that number smaller.. the quantity of these other companies (400 or so).. would it make sense and keeping both of these... in my head is basically like doubling down on the big ones and having more exposure to the others... don't know hopefully I made a wise decision😂

Just found your video. Liked your presentation and insight. Some time ago, I was looking for a compliment to SCHD. I did comparisons with other funds including DGRW and DGRO. I came to the same conclusions you did. Being retired, I was more focused on current dividends as well as fund cross-over. I picked DGRO. There are holdings in each fund I liked as well as DGRO's higher dividend and lower cost. Also, I was looking just as SCHD was doing its annual re-mix, so it was interesting. I've been adding to SCHD and DGRO as core holdings. I am always leery of doing forward projections, so I'm hoping past performance IS an indication of future results (ha ha, that's a joke). We'll see what happens and adjust as needed. Again, thanks for your thoughts. Cheers

Both Schd and DGRO are great as a core dividend portfolio. You could look to add something like Vym or a covered call etf like jepq to boost your income.
@richardjohnson1261
@richardjohnson1261 8 дней назад
@@DividendGrowthInvesting Actually, I have. I started investing in JEPQ about a year ago and that adventure continues. Once I'd gotten relatively well established in DGRO, I started adding VYM. I am looking to build a core of etf's that are solid and pay better than S&P 500, then add etf's like JEPQ as satellites that may not grow (or may) but pay very well. So far it looks like it's working. Cheers

@DividendGrowthInvesting
@DividendGrowthInvesting 9 месяцев назад
look at the index methodology of both. VYM is focused on a higher current yield of companies growing a bit slower and DGRO is focused on dividend growers. Depending on your time horizon, you would want to pick which is right for you.
@charlielipthratt7291
@charlielipthratt7291 8 месяцев назад
@DividendGrowthInvesting - so if you're retiring early with 40+ years to go and you're lump sum investing, half of your core could be split between VYM and DGRO to boost yield a bit? VYM pays you more today and DGRO's yield would catch up over time. I know in your other video regarding core and satellite investing, you recommended adding JEPI/JEPQ to boost the yield. I was thinking the VYM/ DGRO would be more ER and tax efficient over 40+ years. You just need a bigger lump sum to start with.

@KGold53
@KGold53 9 месяцев назад
@@girldaddividendinvestor Strange comment. Didn’t think what I wrote was all that entertaining. 🤔 In response to your claim that DGRW has more risk, here are the facts. Over the past five years, DGRW Sharpe Ratio is .60, standard deviation is 17.14, and max drawdown is -19.41%. For DGRO, it’s .51, 17.53, and -21.61%. SCHD is .56, 18.08, and -21.55%. So, historically over the past half-decade, DGRW has better risk-adjusted returns, slightly less volatility, and sold off less than its competitors, DGRO and SCHD. If anything, DGRW has been less risky. It might not continue, but those are the facts.
@Dan-Weston
@Dan-Weston 9 месяцев назад
The index that DGRO select its investments from does have forward looking criteria so saying DGRO is only backwards looking is not accurate. Also to compare one ETF to another based on past performance is not a great approach to investing.
@KGold53
@KGold53 9 месяцев назад
@@Dan-Weston It’s either coincident (exclusion of top 10% yields) or backward-looking (minimum 5 years of uninterrupted annual dividend growth). Edit: I do see that consensus earnings forecast has to be positive (excludes companies with forecasted losses?) and payout ratio of less than 75% is measured for the next 12 months. So that’s the “forward looking” part. Not much there.
