This is a BRILLIANT overview over precisely what I was interested in and it has changed my focus from workstation to this piano. Why is it that no one else addresses this powerful tool? I don't even see it mentioned in the PDF manual (which are usually no good anyway, so that may not be a surprise). For me, what makes this better than a DAW or keyboard workstation is that once you have created your style, it will the follow what chords you're playing. And for me at least, the feedback I get from the rhythm section may affect what chords I want to play - I may choose to change a chore halfway through arranging a song. On a DAW I would have to go back to the piano roll, change all the notes to the new chord for just that one section, which can be a hassle. With this, even though it took some work at the beginning, it's no problem... All I have to do is play the new chord and my originally written accompaniment will follow me. Some aspects that look challenging are editing drums entered on the keyboard, like changing the velocity of every other hi hat. It also looks a bit like a printout from an Excel File instead of a graphic user interface. The price Tage is unbelievable and the weighted 88 keys make this look like a FAR better deal than other professional arrangers. Do you get used to working with the numbers all the time or does it always feel difficult? Why are these boards so ridiculed. It seems that if used the correct way they're powerhouses for writing drum and bass that will follow whatever chord you are playing. This is the single most important review of this key oars IMHO. Are there any manuals that go in depth about these functions?

@@phillc Overlooked your reply. I got the board and am loving it. I also like how you can go and tweak with all the elements of each instrument, like attack (which is amazing for playing Bach), reverb, key sensitivity and depth, etc, etc. If played correctly, even that pedal steel guitar sounds pretty convincing, which I've never heard on another board. I was wanting this primarily for smooth jazz, but the sounds give me so many ideas, I've dug up my old rock songs from back in the '90s that never got recorded with a band and am gonna do them with this and my singer. You're quite the teacher, BTW.

Metronomes.: I've been using a versatile metronome on a smart phone. I can see where the click on the DGX would be critical to syncing multiple tracks.

I'll try to follow this. It think it might have been simpler to just show how to edit a beat rather than starting 100% from scratch. I know you are a creative guy. For me, I would have to start learning the keys for the various drum sounds. What finger mode are you using? Your style is quite nice.

Maybe styles cannot be editied. I don't know. With an MC-500 you could easily edit individual notes. Maybe quantization is the only option.

Very interesting. Good job demonstrating the tutorial. What brought me here was to investigate if there is any way to use one of the style tracks simply to record another instrument on. I'm thinking not. I will be searching more. I am trying to record a song which is using 10 instruments, and I came to be surprised that I cannot use the style tracks for that, even if I'm not using a style. I was wondering if I could just record the instrument on one of the tracks via the style creator, but it appears that's not an option. I'll be browsing your recordings. Thanks.

Are you looking to use some of the already created beats? If not you may be better off just starting your own sequence from scratch?
