Personally i don't trust Lilith either but i guess she is probably the lesser evil compared to Mephisto. If she is able to absorb his powers and therefore destroy him then it's probably a better outcome than Mephisto keeping his power. I mean the soulstones and Liliths "solution" show that there are possible ways to work around the prime evils powers.

Even though D4 was so bad I understand why you didn't pay attention to the story, the story was quite simple - Lilith didn't want to "break the cycle", she wanted to first conquer Sanctuary, and then conquer Hell to become to ultimate master of all. She was there to drain her father's (Mephisto's) power to that end, and all the people she corrupted were only her foot soldiers. And her talking about giving "freedom" when the people she corrupted were kind of mind-controlled, or at least so insane they had no control over themselves... lol. And Inarius' one and only goal was to destroy Lilith. But at least he wasn't actively going for world domination, he was just completely indifferent to anything besides his own (false) reading of his prophecy. Also it's funny how the ONLY soulstone that the player actually shatters ingame in D2 was Mephisto's (Diablo's is only shown in cinematic). And here we have the same blue soulstone we shattered in the hands of the mentally challenged girl who I think I (my character) was supposed to feel sympathetic to? Of course this might be an oversight on my part, because I quickly got too bored by the game so I might have been half asleep if it was explained.

Lilith and Inarius simply created a new cycle of their own design. They are their own Anu and Tathamet for Sanctuary. They birthed a new cycle that'll rage within the Nephalem

Typically if a demon is killed anywhere but Hell, they just get reborn in Hell. And same with Angels. If you kill them outside of Heaven, they don't actually die. Inarius was killed in Hell, so he may actually be able to come back, and while Lilith was "killed" in Hell, her blood is in you. You are literally her phylactery, meaning she can find a way back.

@@toxicgreen8625 Its hard to say really, since the lore seems to have changed since D2. I remember in D2, when you talked with Tyrael about Izual, he mentioned that, after his capture, the was expected to respawn at the crystal arch (as Tyrael later did after the destruction of the world stone). Which shows to me, that you cant simply kill an angel, hells forces would have done that long before if all it took was to rip of an angels wings. But it seems nowadays angels can indeed be killed and when that happens, a new angel will be born at the crystal arch, since their number is capped (i think that one is still true). To me it dosent make sense, since demons still get reborn in hell and angels and demons are really 2 sides of the same coin, so they should follow similar laws. Also i dont think it matters if a demon gets killed in hell, concerning its rebirth. Diablo was killed in hell in D2 and he came back just fine and the eternal conflict has raged in hell as well, still demons did respawn. Their essence dosent die. The only way to kill of a demon or angel for good would be to destroy their spawning locations (which Diablo almost did in D3)

@@Daniel-rd6st The only true way to kill an Angel or Demon is to disconnect them from their source of power. Youd have to full cut the demon off from hell, or cut the angel off from heaven entirely. Otherwise, a new one will simply take their place. It more of destroys their persona than it does /what/ they are.

I think, you've misunderstood Lilith. The greater threat is not some mysterious enemy, but the prime evils themselves. Eternal hatred and terror and destruction, just because their essensical being is connected to the existence of the cosmos. They haven't even started. Remember, they were banished to Sanctuary and their plans (which we don't actually know anything about) were only foiled by the Horadrim and Tyrael. And you also undervalue the thematic setting of Diablo. The narrative is dark and grim. The world is stuck, literally and figuratively. There is no forward, there is no retreat; only bitter steel and smashed souls. There can be no change. There can only be a faint, but crumbling hope.

Blizzard was never good at writing. Warcraft kept introducing greater threats or "true" antagonists to the point of nauseum. Starcraft did the same thing but tried to resolve it and in the process created one of the worst, most poorly written sequels in the history of gaming. People get too caught up in the settings and aesthetics and fail to realize all blizzard games are written by monkeys and morons.

I think its implied that Inarius will become the new big bad, as a lucifer/satan archetype and try to take over heaven as its ruler.

They no longer need soulstones to enter Sanctuary though. Since the destruction of the Worldstone they can enter the world freely as there is no protection now.

It's more than a little frustrating that everyone on the Sanctuary side keeps falling for the same tricks over and over again.

Mephisto also planned everything that happened in the original set of games, too. He corrupted the Zakarum, who dispatched Lazarus to Tristram to free Diablo.

Permadeath is pretty rare for the higher beings in Diablo, which is why there's so much "at great cost we trapped them/oh no they're free!" Hell, that just happened to Mephisto. So yeah, her defeat is temporary, and there are two expansions to come.

All demons come back at some point, and dead angels are reformed as entirely new beings. So Inarius is Dead, Lilith is not, less the Diablo Devs forgot their own lore. >.>

For the diablo universe angels and demons don't truly die. Sometimes they do but it is rare for beings like Inarius and Lilith. When angels die they return back to the Silver Spire where in time they reform. Usually they come back related to their purpose. So If Tyrael dies, being the archangel of justice, his essence is reformed into another archangel of justice. Sometimes they come back same-ish, but mostly they are different people so long as the role they had is filled again. Demons when they die return back to their primordial layer of existence that they formed from. If they are powerful they are able to retain their sense of self and not get reabsorbed by this "birthing pool." The real exception is the Prime Evils. Either because of their exceptional strength or because they represent the heads of Tathamet, they can not be killed and always return. This is not the first world and war the Prime Evils and Angels have fought over, it just happens to be the most important. Lilith seemed to actually know of a way to stop the eternal conflict for good, but it also seemed like her father set her up to fail.

normally true, but this death seems very much permanent. everyone says shes dead-dead, not just on respawn timer like before. inarius is dead as well now, and unlike demons, angels DONT just respawn. a replacement for them spawns, not the original one. lorath said it himself, both creators of sanctuary are now gone. and lorath knows demons can respawn normally. so for some reaosn, shes probably perma dead

It's called "Eternal Conflict" for a reason 😂. As a player who played diablo 2, 3 and now 4 I'm satisfied of Diablo 4. No one is forcing anyone to buy and play this game.

I think the people who don’t like the ending were just really obsessed with Lilith and wanted to see more from her. I mean honestly she’s way more developed and interesting than Diablo who’s just evil and scary and that’s it.

That was already done during the sin wars. This is choice was boring to do again.

@@Mikorobyo Nope, normally when a demon is killed, their physical body dies but their essence is released into the world and will eventually find its way back to the Burning Hells to be reborn. But at the end of the first book in the Sin War trilogy, while fighting Lucion, Uldyssian awakens his real Nephalem powers (after spending the entirety of the book up to that point being falsely strung along by Lilith, disguised as a noblewoman by the name of Lylia) and completely erases Lucion from existance itself.
