Thanks just purchased the first responder series version of this paddle enjoyed your review well put together and informative especially from a clearly experienced player was looking for a carbon fiber faced paddle and think this will suffice appreciate you!
@@robinsandberg9743 Thanks for the comment. Curious to hear your experience with the touch of the paddle. Do you feel like you are synced with your soft game or was it just me that felt a little off there?
@@pickleballeffect I had been playing with the Engage Pursuit EX prior to this paddle and was specifically looking for what I felt was a paddle that gave more feel for the soft game as opposed to a real power paddle, so for me I definitely feel that with the Edge. Maybe it’s all relative to what paddle you’re coming from. But agree that there was a two week breaking in period.
@@robinsandberg9743 Thanks for the additional insight! This is very helpful. You're right, there is also going to be a different perception of how the paddle plays relative to what you were playing before. The Pursuits are true power paddles so the Edge will definitely feel softer!
Nicely done Braydon I think your review was spot on with my experience so far with the Edge. My love affair with the Joola Hyperion ended after a few weeks after I started to develop pain in my elbow. I loved how that paddle played but the head heavy design was too much for me. I then tried the Joola Vision. I didn't like it quite as much as the Hyperion, but I found this paddle giving me some pain as well. Not sure if it was from the Hyperion still or weather there is something inherent in the Joola paddles that affect me in this way. I have since bought the Warrior Edge. I wasn't sure if I would like how light this paddle was. Mine was 7.7 ounces which was the heaviest one in the store. I was pleasantly surprised how the light weight now 7.9 ounces with the over grip played. It was stable at the net with blocks and had plenty of pop. I love the spin this paddle generates. I have been washing my paddle face pretty much every day after play to wash the ball residue off from gripping the ball. What I like most about the paddle is how fast it played. My forehand and backhand flick my two top weapons are improved with the lighter paddle. I guess lighter paddles are better for me. Thanks again Braydon I'm looking forward to your upcoming reviews. Great newsletter this morning. Jim
Nice, thanks for your thoughts, this is super helpful for anyone looking at the paddle! And I'm glad our experiences with the paddle aligned. And yeah, I bet the Edge feels like lightning compared to Ben's paddle ha. Sorry to hear about the tennis elbow, that's always a battle.
It's an awesome paddle.. great touch and control, huge sweetspot, and well balanced even in off-center shots. It has good vibration dampening that it helped my tennis elbow. My only complaint with the 1st gen is the grittiness of the carbon face wears off after 6 months of playing but the 2nd gen (which they are producing now) does not wear off.
My first "real" paddle was the Players Pickleball Rogue2 and then followed that up with their Carbon Rogue2. I think it is one of the best all-around paddles available. Great vibration dampening, large sweet-spot, lots of spin and power.
Stuck between this or the diadem icon. Im a 4.0 tennis player, new to pickleball. Saw christian alshon who also was a tennis player uses this on tour. What do you guys recommend?
The Edge is more forgiving and easier to dial in so I’d recommend the Edge. It’s the more popular one of the two as well. If you’re interested, I do carry it in my store and you can snag it for 10% off with the discount code 10EFFECT.
@@pickleballeffect Ended up going with the joola vision, mainly due to the elongated handle. I'm 6'6 and have large hands, and use a two-handed backhand so that extra length felt really good. Thanks again!
@@pickleballeffect my error Braydon. Didnt even see it on the comparison 🤦🏻♂️. Long day at work. Great review as always. Cant wait for the Joola Vision 16MM review. I just found the Ben paddle too head heavy
Yeah, I’m actually playing with the V2s right now for a review. The quick and dirty is that they hit just as hard as the original icon but also are a little more forgiving and have a friendlier feel. The standard shape has a very light swing weight and is very quick while the elongated has more of your standard swingweight. Pretty impressed so far. They aren’t as forgiving as the Edge though so you get a little more power at the sacrifice of some control and forgiveness.
@@pickleballeffect Thanks for the quick feedback. I am playing it for the first time in the morning. I do have the V1, hoping the lack of more power is made up for by the feel and maybe some better control for the soft game.
Thank you for the review! I’ve tried out both the edge and joola and enjoyed them both. Based on your chart and recommendation would you say the joola is a better purchase here? And any thoughts on the CRBN it seems they are all mostly similar and you can’t really go wrong with anything here
Yeah, glad it was helpful. If you don’t mind the extra weight of the Joola then it’s probably the best combo of control and power but you’re right, they are all very similar and it just comes down to little things like weight and handle length that differentiates them, but they are all good paddles.
I absolutely love this paddle before I was using the Franklin ben johns 16mm and for me it was too top heavy I love how light it is but it still possesses great pop and the spin is amazing I like the length of the handle because it gives me better touch in my opinion. Should I give the crbn 1 and the Ben johns cfs a try?
I think the biggest difference between the Edge and the others is that it is lighter and more maneuverable. If you like that about the Edge then I don't think you need to look anywhere else.
Did you revise the review? I saw originally a slightly different video. Either I'm confused, or did you switch out the Engage Pursuit with the Joola Hyperion from the original comparison? Would have liked to have seen your opinion of the five paddles. I enjoy your reviews!
I did ha I wanted that last comparison chart to only compare Raw Carbon Faced Paddles and someone pointed out that the Engage paddle was not a raw carbon faced paddle so I switched it out for the Joola which is.
Great video! How do you feel about the Head Radical Tour paddle vs this ? I'm a 3.5 tennis player and new to pickleball. Been using just a cheap walmart paddle and have been extremely good in my games. Just need more control, spin and power. Figuring out what's the best bang for buck that is reliable as I go through strings all the time in tennis.
Thanks, I'm glad you liked it. Lots has changed since I published this review. For you I'd recommend a Vatic Pro paddle called the Flash. You can check it out here, vaticpro.com/collections/paddles/products/flash-carbon-fiber?variant=42983585972383&sca_ref=3260078.CzQXcNupcD&sca_source=pr. It has the extra power, control, and spin you're looking for at a great price. You can even use the code 10EFFECT on their website for a discount.
I'm looking at moving into a higher quality paddle from my beginner jp win locks, I have been looking at this paddle and played with my buddies a few times. How would you compare it to the selkirk vanguard invikta 2.0 which is the other paddle I'm looking at? I'm looking to improve my short game but still have power. Thanks
Hey Justin, thanks for the message. Happy to chat. You’ll get a little more power and spin from the Edge compared to the Vanguard Invikta. However, the Vanguard Invikta will give you a more plush feel and is a little more forgiving. Sounds like the Edge is more of the control + power combo you’re looking for. The Vanguard Invikta is a pure control paddle. I do carry the Edge in my online store if you’re interested. You can 10% off your first purchase their with the code 10EFFECT.
@@pickleballeffect thanks for the reply, the edge is the 1st 16mm paddle I've used and it does feel real soft at first but I after getting the feel I've liked it so I'll probly go that route. Thanks
