highly appreciate this approach to test Locked Compressor. I recently had to test one it took me a long time to arrive at this conclusion. God Bless you.
If theres a fail in amps, next check is under the compressor terminal cover, look for a burned or loose terminal, OR occasionally thermal overload bimetal has died. Check everything, before replacing the compressor
I came across to this job where I found out initially the start and run capacitor are gone, when when I came back to put new capacitors, upon start up the system compressor drawing high amps (something like struggle to start) what do you think does the compressor already gone?
Thnx Greg for an informational video. My AC compressor will not start & I get a really low amp draw < 2 amps during test. Is that possibly sign of bad compressor? The compressor is not shorted. Trying to determine if the compressor can be revived.
J TRA it could be a bad run capacitor. If you draw amps on all 3 legs then install a hard start kit. A 521 rated for the size of the unit. Also check the wiring for the compressor. I’ve seen wire broken in half inside the insulation.
My compressor won't start easily(with realy) and is drawing too much current and I can smell windings buring after running it for 2mins. I already brought 2 new compressor and it won't could there be any other issue? Any bodies help is appreciated.
Any Idea of how to find a reputable honest HVAC company? I got shitted out of 10k from the first one. and the second one was fine until a year later and the compressor has gone out and they want another 1k to fix it. and they said that after they fix it that it could still be something that caused it to happen that ill have to cover as well. I'm starting to feel like they are trying to shit me again. after 14 thousand dollars In less than 3yrs, I should have a working ac by now! Though I know the compressor issue is possible I'm suspecting the system they put in wasn't new or was installed incorrectly by their tech which means they should cover it not me. And the system should have been new like what they charged me for.
The company you bought your system through, should have offered sometime of warranty besides just the manufacturers warranty. Covering all of that and then some. We offer 5yrs on all our retail along with a 10yr manufacturer warranty which we submit all the paperwork to make sure you're registered. Good Luck!

This unit trips the breaker as soon as the contactor calls for cooling. If I disconnect the compressor the cond fan runs no problem. Compressor is not grounded and has proper ohms. Wires are not shorted at all.
diego what does he mean un even presssures before starting? Mine has this and won't start. I'm a plumber so I know just enough to be dangerous but have never come across this problem.
