Thank You!

Thanks for the info, seems like we get caught up in trying to get the work out and don’t spend the time learning until we need it, when in reality learning it up front helps not to make the mistake or make it more complex Thanks for all you do

Great ideas Al on the log book. I am getting ready to buy a 3 or 4 cobra from LMC but I am not sure which one I really need. Doing leather work for 50 years, have two old singer machines but I am getting older and hands are hurting so I want a nice new machine to sew those holsters and knife sheaths. Decisions, decisions......

The decision is simple. The class 4 with the electronic positioning system. Here are my reasons why. The footprint in the shop between the class 3 and the class for his negligible. So, you're not saving any space. As a long-term operator of sewing machines and leather making I have carpal tunnel and all kinds of arthritic disabilities in my hands from a lifetime of leather work. The electronic positioning system minimizes the need for operating the hand wheel by hand. The computer positions the needle perfectly for pivoting and for removing the material. There is no substitute and it is a great labor saving device. Do yourself a favor and consider these options. There is a learning curve. But with little patience and the little effort you will optimize the system so that it better serves your purposes. Stick with me and I will guide you through the learning process so that you can benefit from your investment.

@@albaneforleather Thanks so much for that info. That was exactly what I was looking to do. I will let you know what I came up with in the next few weeks. Thanks again.

Thanks again for these vudeos. Can you post what your log book entries look like?

A generic logbook entry would look like this. Date and time Project at hand. What am I making.? Materials making up the project, the composite that the project is made of, the different types of leather, glues, zippers or whatever. The more information the better. The condition of the sewing machine. Needle size. Brand, thread size Brand and color. The estimated time in between maintenance. For example last needle change, last oiling. Any suspected issues with the system that may need to be addressed during production. For example. Potentially slipping belt, Bobin winder overfilling. Bobbin winder feeding unevenly. These things all remind me to keep my eye on certain things. Making notes of any mechanical alterations to the machine away from the home position. For example changing to a much lighter leather requiring the needle change and thread size change. I would make all the notes associated with it so I know where the system is when starting the next job. Detailing how much tension adjustments have been done so that we can have a clear roadmap leading us back to the home position. I can go on and on forever but I try to keep it as brief as possible so that the journal doesn't end up using up the entire space of the garage. Lol your results will vary.

Al, I have a Cobra 26 that does not move the material while I am sewing. It started after I was setting the hook and needle adjustment. Is there any info you have at to what might have cause this.

Did you replace the feed dog correctly? It must rise out of the throat plate about two business cards distance when it's at its highest point.

Good Stuff....Can you point me to why I would be bottom nesting on back stitch only??
@albaneforleather
@albaneforleather 11 месяцев назад
Physics, and volume. We are asking the material to accept twice as much thread in the same space. Softer materials allow the thread to Compress into the pierced hole. But denser leathers don't allow the thread in so it wads up underneath.

@@albaneforleather Kinda makes sense is there a cure for this that I am missing? I went to a smaller needle and it helped a little but I think it could be better. I feel my tensions are where they need to be as the regular stitch is pretty good.
