Put a stocking over the hose for the vacuum try and use a Shop-Vac to it won't suck it up it'll get stuck in the stocking

A little word of caution. I too appreciate the effort, but I must point out that his tests are not conclusive. That particular tester is going to separate 2 types Diamonds from non-diamonds. Moissanite is a man made diamond. Yes, it is diamond, with hardness of 9.25 on Mohs scale, Harder than any Gem except Natural Diamond, that is 10 on the same scale and the hardest substance in known Universe. Natural Diamond measures in thousands, yet the man made one measures in hundreds.

If you lose something small in the carpet, put a mesh (like pantyhose) over the end of a vacuum hose to try and suck it up, and hold a paper or something under so if you do find it it won't fall back in.

Diamond and Moissanite will test as diamond on that cheap tester because Moissanite is also a diamond that is man made. My advice? Have it tested by reputable Gemologist even if you have to pay a little money. Errors can cost you hundredfold. Large Jewelry shops may have good Gemologist on site. I do this for decades and each time I have double and triple checked before the Gem leaves my hands.

It's only accurate if u have the tester st on 0. Yoy definitely don't want it set it higher then 1. Otherwise quartz crystal would test as dimond

I bought a jade and 14k gold pendant for next to nothing at the local opportunity shop. It's worth $200+. I find lots of sterling silver.

You can actually use it for any gemstone. Set the green bars at 4 and test it on a real gemstone and the bars will go up to 7 +!

You don't want to set the tester higher than one normally leave it on zero otherwise the test is inaccurate and courts will test as diamond

You can use a blacklight to find your lost diamond most diamond come up florescent in black light

Yes, I did some research on that and moissanite has only been used since about 1994 so it's still good for vintage and antique pieces which suits me.

Tip: Use a good loop to study nature of diamonds tested, so you eventually become able to spot them by eye on your travels.

I did try them just not in the video. Some of them were higher than glass but not all the way up.

I have the same tester, and Ive tested a lot of different stones, and different sizes. At most, the indicator lit up one or two lights higher. Maybe zirconia, idk.

It doesn't only do diamonds, it will also recognize Ruby's & Sapphires too, it doesn't recognize emeralds though.

Thank you. I'm thinking of buying one of these because I found a piece of very old jewelry that I believe to contain diamonds. The piece isn't hallmarked but many pieces weren't back then. I acquired an American Masonic 2 headed eagle pendant and chain. I believe it is 22k gold but no hallmarks or makers mark. It's American so this just indicates to me that it's very old and valuable. What method do you use to test for gold purity? I'm going to buy one of these on eBay and the ad says this unit will test gold and silver. Thanks from Australia 🦘

No it does not detect metals. It is for stones. I discovered an unmarked item to be gold because it contained diamonds. I use acids to test metal to see if it is gold or silver

@@CoinMetallurgist I just saw a video in a mall where the guy tested a guy with just gold that said "Diamonds are trash" and the thing went off. You saying that was a fake thing or what? I'm hearing mixed reviews on whether it tests gold or not.

Please. i had this red stone that looks like ruby...So test it with this DS 2 and it went all the way up to the red...what is it?

It’s hard to say. The fact that it went all the way up is a good sign but this detector is really designed only for diamonds. I’d take it to a jeweler that you can trust.

In order to accurately test stones you need to have the tester set on 0. Definitely no higher than one when testing stones of any size.
