Great gift ideas for anyone finding diamond jewelry while metal detecting. I have used this many times to help determine if the items I find have real diamonds or not. Can get Diamond Selector 2 on eBay for about $30 to $50.
you are using this tester completely wrong that tray is supposed to have the plastic coating removed and you supposed to have fingers on the conductivity plate on the bake. three things size of diamonds determine the setting number combined with temperature but won't and can't get accurate reading unless there is a closed conductive circuit. either touching metal on a piece of jewelry or the bare metal of the provided metal testing tray for loose diamonds and then your fingers making contact with the conductivity plate on the rear of the tester, is the only correct way to use this tester.
I'm using it right, I worked at a pawn shop many years ago, very simple to use. I think you have this tester mixed up with some other tester, but non of what your saying is right.
@@MetalDetectingNYthat’s funny you seem to mention you get a new toy today and have to refer to to the operating instructions as well. We all know how trustworthy pawnshop’s are. Use it how want try reading all the instructions first though. just noticed that you even mention you have no clue how this tester even works, but since you worked at some pawn shop many years ago we are supposed to ignore what our eyes can see.

Sorry Nascar, but he is correct. I have the same exact tester and results come out exactly the same, whether I'm touching the metal plate on back or not. Putting it exactly on the correct number doesn't seem to matter a whole lot either. I get the same results. I've tried it on diamond chips and a diamond as large as nearly 3 carats - same results. Sadly, I have yet to find any real diamonds "out in the wild."

acid test but if its heavy plated this wont help. I have seen this laser gun that can test gold but its very costly, I dont find much gold to worry about it, sorry friend.@@IWWOD
