Diamond Head on UK TV BBC Midlands "Look Hear" program 1980 Line-up Sean Harris (vocals) Brian Tatler (guitar) Duncan Scott (drums) Colin Kimberley (bass)
So generic it forged the whole Metallica sound yeah? Okay it's not that mind blowing, but that's not the point... It's their fucking energy that I love. And Saxon? If you don't get how Saxon mind it, you should look at bit closer at their er... Aesthetic *coughs*. it's pretty obvious without being too overt if you get me...
@@TomJoneshkk-gv5zw You act as if Metallica are actually relevant. Always an overrated band. Mediocre drummer. Ok lead guitarist. The only stand out musician was Cliff, and he was only a member for five years or so.
@@TomJoneshkk-gv5zw How is their sound any different from hundreds of other bands? As far as their influence on Metallica, Sabbath was a bigger influence, ESPECIALLY Cliff. Not to mention The Misfits or Budgie.
I've never heard of any yank classical composers.... but the indigenous Americans weren't into composing classical masterpieces lol the rest comes from Africa lol
Id say UK stsrted heavymetal with sabbath , judas priest, venom and such but US perfected it with bands like metalica , slayer, death and such and such
I love the guitarist's tone. Nice, twangy, overdriven, right up my alley. Long live Diamond Head. Edit more than two fucking years later: BRIAN TATLER. HIS NAME IS BRIAN TATLER. AND THE BAND IS BACK AND ALIVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I saw Diamond Head three times back in 82-83 this vid is nothing compared to watching them live.Sean Harris was one of the best front men ever and i've seen a few in fact the band were just amazing...the sad thing was that when the original drummer and bassist packed it in they were never really the same band again...but in saying that the Canterbury album was amazing and so ahead of it's time!!
@@claraboomday ahh fair enough, I've seen them twice but I'm only 27 so it was only Brian who original member but I met him when I was 18 luckily enough and he had all the time in the world to talk to us. Felt like I was talking to superman 😁
Because of treacherous family member management of the band and their affairs, when really - it should have been handled by a professional in the industry. and probably not touring the hell out of the US at the start of their career, thats how bands like Judas Priest and Iron Maiden had them licked!
I only seen Diamond Head at their peak in a small local club where they came back & played at least 4 times and everyone loved them. Maiden, I've only ever seen at Donnington so it's not practical to compare them - but both great bands in their own way.
+Omar Rodriguez Lars actually followed Diamond Head on tour in Britain(1980) before he even met Mustaine. Mustaine may have been a Diamond Head fan, but the first band he always mentions is Angel Witch as influence.
this is not fair, they should be the biggest metal band in the world. people needa do more for them so they can get bigger. they are still touring and making albums and they kick as much as as ever!
Great song from one of the absolute best albums of metal. I was 16 when I found Lightening to the Nations in 2015. How amazing does a, basically underground, album from 1980 have to be to still find a way through time like that
Watched these guys play 3 gigs in the early 80,s and their ability to get the whole place rockin from start to finish, was the equal of any band i've seen live - and i've seen em all !
I love seeing the 70s and 80s clash here. The stage and fashion reek of the 70s but the style and energy of the 80s are ringing out even before they were there yet. Crowd on the left- 80s, crowd on the right- 70s
At 0:49 replace the lyrics from The Mechanix or The Four Horseman. I.E. "The horseman are drawing nearer! On leather steeds they ride....they come to take your life!."
i love and respect Diamond Head so much because without them there would be no Metallica. This is cuz Lars put an ad for a guitarist who wanted to do Diamond Head covers. So without Diamond Head that would have never happened, and hence no Metallica. I didn't know Diamond Head until I started listening to Metallica, and now they are one of my favorite bands!!!!
My understanding is that when metallica first started "covering" diamond head songs, they only said it was a cover if someone asked (at their shows). I remember reading a quote from James more or less saying this. Kill Em All is basically one big Diamond Head ripoff...
yeah essentially metallica was a big ripoff before burton. burton really made them go big and then they just continued on with mindless riffs with no real substance. the only musician of any substance in metallica is kirk hammett but his brilliance seems to get lost in the hetfield machine.
stephen graham More in stage presence/ moves, not so much in music. What’s your take on my statement, Mr. Graham. I hope that you are well today Sir! 🙏🏼
@@funzjag Now that u mention it, I think u may be right. On this track, the Led Zeppelin similarity that assails the viewer may be mostly due to the visuals. Thanks, man.
These truly deserve so much more recognition their impact is so obscure these guys along with that sabbath song invented and set the standard for thrash
Stop giving music all these stupid fucking sub-genres. It’s not fuck by Proto-technical- progressive-mathematical-power- thrash metal or whatever the fuck people wanna randomly come up with. It’s just metal. Stop unnecessarily giving metal all these bullshit names
Peter Ahladas really according to whom? you have to write great songs to be the best or one of the best.. Pretty much all overkill songs are forgettable
Where did it go now? The sound, the way they look like, everything was tasty, i mean not only Diamond Head, but all NWoBHM bands. i can't understand nowadays rock music, it just not fun for me at all.
Sylvan Screams Nope, Cliff was introduced to Diamond Head by Metallica and Cliff looked like he always does way before he met Metallica. Maybe it's a bass player thing?
Eh, the rickenbacker was incredibly popular around this time (much more than today) and the only other thing that’s similar is his hair.. and we all know how popular long hair was back then. Cliff was an unreal musician.
