DIAMOND HEAD - Streets of Gold from UK TV BBC Midlands "Look Hear" program 1980 Line-up Sean Harris (vocals) Brian Tatler (guitar) Duncan Scott (drums) Colin Kimberley (bass)
Brian Tatler was a great riff and songwriter. He's like Tony Iommi and Michael Schenker rolled into one - awesome! You hear the Iommi in the riff and the Schenker in the solo. Brilliant!
Kirk took his whole early look from this guitarist. The hair, style of shirt & the flying V. Cliff had his own style but that Rickenbacker is here too.
@@kennyevans9166 I'm not denying the obvious Diamond Head influence on Metallica, but quite a few 70's rock musicians had similar hair styles and wore similar clothing, including one of Kirk's biggest influences, Michael Schenker, who also played a Flying V.
It pains me every time to know that this band did not reach its full potential due to poor management and other problems. It is as if the prince never found Cinderella after the ball.
just discovered this band a few days ago. was jamming out to "helpless" and said to myself: "I bet these guys were GREAT live!" couldn't have been more right.
Sean Harris is one of my Fav singers, that's a big thing to say I know as a rock fan, but he can both sing and write songs that have stayed with us. They're still going but need Sean Harris back! They're the school band that made it big!
This is an awesome song. I love almost all of Diamond Heads early stuff with the classic, Harris-Tatler-Kimberly-Scott line-up. I own a couple of their singles and albums on vinyl and it's just awesome stuff. Its fun to hear in the video that Brian Tatler actually at points play the riff a bit out of tempo and make some minor mistakes. It's understandable though because the riff is quite difficult to play perfect at that speed, I have a bit of trouble with it myself.
Diamond Head and The Ruts - yes The Ruts are a Punk band but these 2 British bands were so good that it's a pity they never went that far although Diamond Head did release more albums than The Ruts but then they didn't lose their vocalist to heroin and at least they made some money out of Metallica covering a few of their songs .Sorry i don't mean to compare the 2 bands i just happen to like both bands.
No Harris actually played rythm guitar on a few tracks where one single guitar wasn't enought. An example is Am I Evil? where Harris plays in the intro but not in the song itself. Though the album cover of Borrowed Time (I own the vinyl LP) only say that Harris sing he does play some rythm guitar on some of the songs.
I love Diamond Head! How many think I should get a Diamond Head tattoo on my right arm when I turn 15 or 16? Im 14 now but I cant fuckin wait to get one.
@SteveBurk what are you on about? Sean Harris and Brian Tatler made this band wat it is. Vocals and Guitar. Nevermind the fact that his voice is amazing without apparently having to try. Listen to BORROWED TIME.
@yupthatsme27 Now you have your chance...Thursday in New York!!!! I'll be there for sure!! One of the most influential bands ever and the creators of new wave of British heavy metal...
I thank Metallica for getting the names of same great forefathers of metal out there. And just pretty killer music in general. But these guys were definitely far too overlooked. Just tearing it up, like true badasses
@TOMAS 9308 NWOBM is new wave of British metal. Part of the beginnings of metal as we know it. @ HATERS Compared to what else was happening in the music scene at the time, This was hugely cutting-edge. Many of the nwobm bands were Super amazing. To be brave and do what you want is cool. Have some respect your watching a part of history.
saw diamond head july just gone in the wolverhampton slade rooms, smallest room in the world! right at the front and even met brian tatler and nick tart after the show, was an awesome gig!
Look at the audience...Diamond Head in front of them, ready to influence a wide range of Metal Bands afterwards and no one moves a single fucking head or feet 😛 a clear case of "pearls thrown before swine"...
omg, both the left and right hand technique of tatler looks so similar to the way i'm playing. like the way he holds a pick. big difference though is that he can actually play kickass solos, not me :P
Who on earth put them on this show, managers beware! This was such the wrong audience for them, the manager was clearly touting them for anything. DH were the most underrated NWOBHM band in my opinion. So there.
maiden were awesome but u forgot this band never mad a bad song maiden made plenty maiden were more popular and never sold out, but they make music today which is no where near as good as there oldies
i guess in that perspective i'm more of a blues player. not that i care, Tatler plays really nice, i could only dream to be as good as him. thats all that matters to me, fuck all the super fast shredders out there, i prefer some soul in guitaristry...
Saw them live a few times round this period - always thought that Brian Tatler needed to crank his guitar up a bit more on the rhythm parts although it sounds pretty good here. Sean Harris was too much of a poser though - lot of guys didn't really take too kindly to his posturing.
