She was supervised and could have chosen to be taken out of the water but didn't do so.... Absolute determination, not just a survival instinct. Incredible.
I just watched the Netflix special. I’m just in awe. She and her team, omg! The jellyfish incidents were horrifying. This woman is literally one of a kind. Bravo.
this accomishment is out of the box. im a triathlete who has swam on the ocean and i know how hard it is but i cant imagine doing it that long. TRUE INSPIRATION!!!
"push cuba back" and "pull florida towards you" if there are any demigoddesses among us, moving the world/humanity forward, that show a glimmer of what each is capable of Diana is one of them.
What an inspiration to the human spirit! It is unimaginable the physical, mental, emotional journey she took on and persevered. It makes us all take a look at our own lives.
Damn, she must have been in pretty good shape for a 64 year old woman chasing her journey. Swimming 100 miles in like two days. This should be on the 2014 Guinness Book of World Records.
this women is unbelievably amazing i don’t have words, the amount of lives she’s impacted for her perseverance. She didn’t just reach her goal she changed the hearts of people and the world around her, amazing
And I thought I had already seen incredible inspiring women when I heard the story of Ernestine Shepherd, the oldest female bodybuilder in the world and one of the hugest inspirations for me. Women, never falling to amaze me.
That as a society we have done incredible movements. Movements condemned by many as impossible yet accomplish by men and woman not very different from you and I. Wake up people let's care about our neightbor. Ma'am I'm a member of the US Air Force and I proudly salute you. Great job
@marci shore is right. The people posting negative crap you're so short sighted. She did this for her. It was her goal. Her dream. Something that started 30 years ago when she failed the first time. She failed another two more times I believe, but she never gave up. At 64, to accomplish what she did? She knew the risks, but she took all the chances
Wow! Find a way! I am 61-Earth years and this Sister is 64 SIXTY-FOUR Earth years. She has great focus, dedication and concentration to swim from Cuba to Florida. I need to quit whining about little crap, little aches and pains. @Peta_de_Aztlan
I think it’s amazing for someone to force themselves through this, but to unnecessarily force yourself through something, risk your life, put others on standby, all the manpower and planning involved. Someone forcing themselves to persevere through an emergency situation is one thing, but deliberately putting yourself in one is another
In response to the comment by a Jose stating the reason people go through the things like this just for the trill is crazy. Very ignorant, you are ignoring the big picture and that's what is wrong with society today. We give up. What this person did is completely awesome, remarable, honorary. We have to remember nothing is impossible unless we accept defeat before trying. This act should serve to reminds us that we once move towards pushing all boundaries in technology, and intelligence,
SIMPLY go to MARATHONSWIMMERs and look at the thread on Diana Nyad make up YOUR mind about this "swim." Don't let the naysayers or Diana's "team " make it up for you. Look at the "EVIDENCE."
She's a little bit "out there" ... and she doesn't come across very well in interviews ... but she sure did something pretty amazing. Most people who accomplish great things usually march to the beat of a different drum. And then there are the people whose only contribution to the world is to write nasty comments on youtube!
Saw the film at SBIFF. While no one can say it’s not impressive what she’s accomplished- I’m going to say it- she comes across like a jerk. Ungrateful to those who dedicated themselves to her vision, her coach, guy who almost his life,
yeah and Lance was clean. Marion was clean. Yeah hate the doubters. TRUTH OF THE MATTER Nyad is a cheater. The hard data from her GPS positions, the tide chart analysis and her activity logs DO NOT tally. And hse is NOT transparent about the data and her observers arent indepedent. sorry -- i do not believe that she did it without being towed or resting on the boat
Have you ever considered the possibility that Diana Nyad used steroids? I mean, she is built like a man. She wasn't even tested for steroids before the swim.
She is a stronger person than you will ever be. I'm sure you try to ease your own lack of competence by the fact that you're going to heaven. Well with a judgmental attitude like yours I doubt you'll ever make it there.
She failed previously -- and RESTED ON THE BOAT in her previous attempts. And the team only released these facts a ling time after her failed attempts. Smells like a duck, looks like a duck, had previous mugshots looking like a duck -- hey, its .. Lance Armstrong!
Seeing the promo for the Netflix movie has lead me to this video. Now to learn about her journey. Don't you just love the internet? Such a wealth of info at our fingertips...at 530am. FIND A WAY ❤
I met Dyana in 1977. I was 18, working at a gas station outside Philly. She drove in. I recognized her because she was on Carson the night before. I filled her tank. I asked if she was DNyad, and she said yes. Like an imbecile I didnt ask about her, I asked about Carson. Ugh. She was amazing, though.
The sour grapes sound like people who are rubbed wrong by the fact that Nyad looks at it competitively and sees herself as a winner. There's no problem by that. You can see in this ridiculous feat what a natural competitive desire can accomplish.
