King Crimson being Doppio's stand is so interesting since he keep experiencing misfortune so he have this deep desire to earse it, but due to Diavolo in control he can never use it and be satified, furthermore Doppio becomes a energy source for King Crimson's insane power

What I think about Diavolo's death is that it was perfect irony against his motives. Diavolo was the kind of man who only cared for the results, "as the result is the only thing that lives in infamy." Giorno essential took that and denied Diavolo the ability to ever reach the results, putting him in a hell specially designed for him.

I have a personal theory that Diavolo isn't dying *outside* of time, but rather he's dying once in every parallel universe, of which there are an infinite number.

I think something that's interesting is Diavolo's soul isn't shown as his body but instead is shown as King Crimson. We clearly see that Doppio's soul is Doppio. I wonder if this means that Diavolo doesn't view himself as Diavolo but instead only sees himself as King Crimson. Perhaps when Doppio was younger his split personality disorder was much more realistic but once he received a stand it became the exaggerated full body swapping that we see in part 5. That would explain Doppio's inability to use all of KC because in reality KC is almost a completely separate being and is truly letting itself be used by him. In truth KC/Diavolo may just puppet around Doppio's body similar to how Bruno puppeted around his own body after dying. King Crimson being a part of Doppio and Diavolo being part of King Crimson is similar to how Epitaph is a part of King Crimson which is a part of Doppio. If a stand can have sub stands then why couldn't a stand fracture off so far from the soul original it creates its own.

The idea that King Crimson is doppio's stand is quite interesting. I've always thought epitaph looks something like a parasite, so maybe thats like how diavolo is a parasite for doppio. Strangely enough, I've also heard a strange opposite theory, that Diavolo actually is King Crimson, and he's just Doppio's sentient stand

The fact that Doppio had such a relatively simple and reasonable death compared to Diavolo is rather poetic as well. I would think if Doppio was also included in the continuous death loop with Diavolo, then it would be a rather cruel fate for Doppio, but Diavolo is alone with a complete lack of control over his fate for all eternity. Or whatever.

This is what makes me think King Crimson Requiem would have erased Diavolo's body and soul from every JoJo timeline, but letting Diavolo fade out of existence at a slow enough pace to where he still has time to formulate an answer to KCR's only question: "Is this not what you wanted?"

I think the whole King Crimson and Epitaph representing Doppio and Diavolo thing makes sense, however, King Crimson and Epitaph are ONLY Diavolo's stand because if one belonged to Diavolo and the other to Doppio, Doppio would have kept his half when he was in Buccarati's body.

All though Diavolo was a bad person, I still think infinite punishment for a finite crime is too much.

Even after all that happened and what actions were done. I still am sad for what happened to Doppio. I even cried when he died in the anime episode. Oh my poor sweet Doppio...

Kars: wanted to be immortal, gets his wish but in the worst way possible, as he's essentially frozen forever. Dio: the very stand he believed to be invincible is what killed him. (Also he was killed by getting punched in the same leg he kicked Danny with) Kira: wanted to be unnoticed and *loved* hands, died because he went unnoticed, and got dragged to hell by hands. Diavolo: only cared about results, and was denied the results of his death. Also: 1st death: he's killed by a drug addict that he sold drugs to. 2nd death: he's cut open while still alive, like Cioccolata's victims. 3rd death: he died in public and out in the open, with no one knowing or caring who he was. 4th death: he is scared to death of a little girl, after trying to get rid of his daughter.

Diavolo has been shown at the end when his soul was separated from doppio, that he was in fact King Crimson, and he also had Epitaph.

Thinking about it, yeah Diavolo's fate feels particularly brutal, when considering that he doesn't come off as the most evil villain in the series. I think someone like Dio or Kira would've deserved it more.

One BIG FLAW with the point at 9:15 King Crimson doesn’t work without Epitaph. King Crimson is the one who Erases the time, and if he just erases time without using epitaph, he runs the risk of actually just speeding up his fate by skipping into, or just before the part where he dies. The jump needs to be calculated before it is made.

A theory i have seen that i like alot is that diavolo isnt a second personality but rather another soul possesing doppio.. or in other words a demon possesing doppio. This can explain the birth of diavolo since its basicly a anti christ birth of sorts. In the anime there is also a scene were for a split second baby doppio's eyes become a demonic red when he blinks and the nurse even reacts to it. This also explains why king crimson is such a powerfull stand. A stand is someones fighting spirit and the stronger their spirit is the stronger the stand. And king crimson's power is a 4th dimensional ability being able to erase time for 10 seconds. This and the fact that when diavolo appears he takes over doppio's body by force. And ofcourse diavolo means the devil in italian. Now does that mean that diavolo is actually the devil? Ehh prob not but him being a demon does make alot of sense and makes his death also the right one Since you cant really kill a demon

The problem with King Crimson being Doppio's stand is that when he and Diavolo gets separated in different bodies the whole King Crimson and Epitaph reamins with Diavolo

I think its better to view King Crimson ability as erasing time not skipping time. He erase everyone's memory and his own existens for a short duration, that's why bullets goes past him during Metallica fight, and with that i would argue that that it fits more its Diavolo´s stand in order to erase his own existens and rule from the dark, where Doppio as a "younger" spirit looking forward towards the future.

One way you could justify his defeat is that simply put he was the boss of an organization that caused untold amounts of pain and suffering through his drug trade, various assassins, robbery,etc. So in a morbid way it’s fitting he would suffer for eternity to compensate for the untold lives he’s ruined and ended.

Yk I always wanted to write a fan story of doppio's childhood, seeing that many people hate him unlike dio, Kars and even kira. I was thinking something along the lines of l: Doppio being born in a prison has lead him be a witness to alot of things such as prison beatings, abuse from the prison staff and even shankings, he even took a shank he found on the floor next to his cell, just incase he need protection. He was never given any attention or love for that matter from his mother, she just saw him as another inconvenience that she had to deal with, which is what lead him to reside in himself, finding out that his only friend was the voice that spoke through his mother's contraband phone. The phone would ring whenever he felt lonely and right before he went to sleep. That night he woke up to strange noises he heard happening below him, and when he got up to see what it was he saw his mother being harassed by a guard. Seeing his mother's tears, the sounds she made along with his lack of understanding for what intercourse was he thought she was getting attacked, he sudden snapped and it would appear that he blacked out right before he jumped on the guard. Doppio woke up not fully grasping the severity of what he's just done, covered in blood wity the shank he took up along with the no longer moving corpse of the guard. All he knows is that some how he protected his mom while sleeping. He was expecting to be rewarded for what he's just done, protecting his mother from the brutal attacker, but what he was met with was disgust and resentment which lead him to find residence in himself even more.

I think the point is that Giorno is still a teen and that’s why he gave Diavolo such a cruel “experience”

I always thought Diavolo's fate wasn't necessarily cruel, because he dies but THEN comes back to life. While the aspect of infinite death is mainly highlighted, a side-effect is that he also gains infinite life. Diavolo can have a long loop where he actually acts like a father to Trish and raises her, living in a happy family together with his wife until he dies, or he learns to live a life in a community without trying to erase his past so desperately, learning to cope with his fear of being found out and making peace with himself. Of course, it remains a punishment because loops could simply contain deaths already in motion that he can't stop, like the autopsy one, but I feel like after enough time, Diavolo might be able to find happiness within his infinite loops. Maybe my view is just too optimistic, though.

If we go off of the song Epitaph, "knowledge is a dangerous friend when no one sets the rules, the fate of all mankind I see, is in the hands of fools" and the way multiple personalities are created IRL it heavily implies that Doppio was the original and Diavolo and King Crimson were born when Doppio learned about his mother. MPD can be created when someone experiences a very traumatic event, in order to make a version of you that can handle it, which the knowledge of his mother very much could have been. The "knowledge" in the line from the song represents his mother, Doppio is the "fool", and Diavolo along with his stand are the ones who now "set the rules". I actually think Epitaph is Doppios stand and King Crimson is Diavolos. The songs of the stands in JoJo are meant to give insight on the users character, the stand is their soul after all. Epitaph(the song) is sorta about the failure of man and people's lack of action to fix things and how the singer is afraid for future things to come. This fits Doppio as he needed to make Diavolo to fix things and how he showed that he doesn't care about humans, example being caring about the bug and not the kid, and how he does in the end. And King Crimson is the band, so Epitaph is BY King Crimson hence why Doppio can't use it unless Diavolo(King Crimson) gives it to him. Then we can look at the Court of the Crimson King which also may be a part of the reference, which is really just about a king and his kingdom, and Diavolo is the "king" of the Mafia.

As a part of a DID system, I would like to clear out a few labels that are wrong. The different "personalities" are referred to as "alters" or "headmates". Doppio, I think, would be considered a host since he is the "main one" and Diavolo a sort of "protector" or something of that sort. It is true that some alters don't even realize that they are part of a system within some systems. Doppio gets headaches and it's soooo accurate. Araki has done is research for sure.

I really like the idea of kc actually being doppios stand! On top of the reasons you stated, it also fits him being the personality thats „skipping“ whenever things get too dangerous. But i think you are very much reading that existsnce theme into part 5.. -the mysterious aspects of his birth make a lot more sense when considering that he is supposed to symbolize the devil and this is some sort of divine/unholy birth -he is looking for trish, in order to erase clues about his existsnce, why would he work against himself if he wanted to exist? He also did not let her grow up on purpose, he just couldnt find her because her mother hid her well - those were times before the global network, it was a lot harder to find someone that is hidden -diavolos death was the right one not because it was the only one possible or in some abstract way the opposite of his wish, it was right because of the eternal cruelty he would have brought upon the world, had he won and gotten the arrow. Its important to look at Diavalo's actions in context to the universe. More specifically what manifested his ability as a correspondence Whenever a Jojo stepped up, from Jonathan to even George the 1st, they were adopting a an enormous responsibility. When someone says "who died and made you king" its that kind of idiom taking place whenever a person identifies with right standing. In Jotaro's case "I will be your judge" Now I would like to focus on Giorno for a bit. This is 15 year old who decided to take on the mafia, as if the world of organized crime wasn't scary enough and in Italy no less. The prevalence of stands has made underground operations undetectable. Jotaro and co had a hard enough time bringing down one reprobate [in part 4] imagine how disastrous it gets with an underworld who are inadvertently executing social Darwinism (coerced evolution) If Cioccolata is any indication, Giorno made the right call when he requested that Koichi leave matters to the passione. This is what he was up against, and through a series of pruning trials, resorting to GER's ability was what Giorno deemed an appropriate response to the criminal space With that out of the way Diavalo, a manifestation of mind who's Stand has taken over his subconscious, he alone is responsible for a substantial amount of death. You might chock up Bruno's death up to a dog eat dog world, but by volley of King Crimson's ability Diavalo is quite literally the devil He built his empire doing what Dio never could, turning people into lesser vampires. He pawned arrows, sold drugs, and caused people to lose perspective by using time erasure. Big brother would be jealous. That's how power works, you don't just have a taste, you go after absolute power If at some point he wanted someone's company and they refused to sell it, all King Crimson has to do is create a perfect crime scenario, nix the owners, and become majority shareholder. Auction off assets to the lords of his organization In doing so, its not just the head that was crushed- his family gets affected, his partners, people who depend on the partnerships, their families, the commendations of the company reputation, people's work, their ability to find new work. Decades, sometimes hundreds of years of vestments, undone in a blink as a result of covetous behavior That is why the title "sleeping slaves" is an accurate identifier to his arc. You turn peoples lives into an unconscious drone of toil until they eventually keel over from disenfranchisement. What Giorno did was shatter the illusion built by Diavalo's fiendish deeds. By adding back the cause to his reality, Giorno essentially triggered a cascade of causality and forced them all to happen simultaneously (or sequentially) We all have to die, but in Diavolo's case, he is forced to play out the instances where a person might experience death WITHIN the world he created. How many issues of turmoil and strife had he caused by toying with his ability? Hundreds? Thousands? How about eternity since that is the nature of the universe, it will never end because life manifests into new forms whether from mastodon to nudibranch It's not really a question of whether it was deserved, instead its an axiom of how death is abominable to life. IT IS A SIN to make someone experience death. Diavolo never committed to enduring fate, so without any resistance, facing the consequences all at once would be like being waterboarded by niagra falls

It's incredible how "he started Mafia" is so downplayed here I think i can get a list of so many people here in Italy that could say something like "yeah, deserved" for someone that would've done something like that. Now, i know that the Mafia in Jojo is a bit different so like, it's kinda hard to get the point from someone outside, but it's basically a pleague. Anyway you can say that he got in an eternal punishment as he would get in a real hell, so i think it's fair game anyway you look at it

I have a theory and I wonder if anybody has though of this but what if diavolo got an requiem stand in the death loop (I don't see a way that would happen but just play along) and some how broke free and is now observing the Jojo multiverse from beyond with his unimaginable power of King Crimson Requiem, perhaps he'll apear in p9 as the final boss, ready to destroy the multiverse starting with the SBR universe... Who knows all I want to say is that diavolo deserved a better ending since he was nothing but an mentally ill person which I feel sorry for.

Well, it was never said that a greater power than Gold experience requiem wouldn't be able to stop Diavolo's cycle. So maybe when the universe got reset he was also released.

Maybe Diavolo's death loop isn't infinite, but he keeps trying to skip each death using KC, whether consciously or subconsciously, and the process of skipping sends him to another potential death which he also tries to skip.

Basically, all the decisions in part 5 are first made by doppio, who then gets into the death loop, goes insane, and through sheer luck somehow ends up back at the start of his life as a separate personality, names Himself diavolo, which then leads to the events show in the actual show?

Didn't read all comments so I don't know if this was already addressed by others but there are couple disagreements I have: - KC or epitaph as Doppio's stand. When soul-swap by Chariot Requiem happens all souls keep their respective stands, as they are after all manifestation of the soul. Thus KC and Epitaph are undoubtedly Diavolo's own stand abilities and not Doppio's. -Diavolo is never seen in the past, so Doppio is likely the main personality. If Diavolo's goal was to be hidden, then he would obviously never appear in front of anyone of his own will. It's quite possible to argue that the flashback baby is Diavolo; after all it was remarked that the baby didn't cry at all while Doppio behaves innocently to a fault. It's quite possible Doppio is "slow" compared to Diavolo's scheming persona because he was created this way by Diavolo early on to throw off suspicions from his true nature. Diavolo climbed to the top to be in complete control of all information in first place, so that he could actually track his past "mistakes" like Trish and finally deal with them once for all. Additionally his name is referencing that of the Devil, an evil who lurks in shadows and seeks power to stand above God's creation of man which is paralleled by his otherwise un-Jesus-like miraculous conception, being contextualised in complete squalor (by a widow, in a sudden pregnancy inside a prison ward for a crime she committed) and self-righteous notions of being the "chosen" one, worthy to stand above all others. King Crimson doesn't seek to erase "mistakes", he defies fate and destiny which are recurring themes and forces in Jojo, of which the main thread is in form of the Joestar bloodline. That is the hubris against which the story pins Dio's son. That you can't fully control or escape your destiny, or rather, consequences. As for "right" death I like to believe it is iconic that for someone who always wanted to be hidden Requiem made sure that Diavolo ceased to exist without a trace of him left, much to protest of Trish and Mista who wanted at least a glimpse of his body to make sure he's dead, he's instead forever stuck in a death loop outside of time.

I think what's interesting is that Fate in Jojo is all but confirmed to not be just an abstract concept, but a natural force like gravity So the idea that Diavolo was never meant to exist, sort of makes him this strange and rare phenomenon like a lunar eclipse. So, going off that, its quite possible that the reason why King Crimson works the way it does and why Diavolo's actions are so contradictory is because he *has no fate* to begin with. He's a literal walking paradox ,with no clear beginning and no clear end and one that decided that he's going to take what he believes he's owed. As for his punishment, it ultimately ties into this as I think its less the idea that he's being punished for trying to *control* fate and more that he tried to *take it* from others. PS: The idea of King Crimson being Doppio's stand is interesting. Tho an argument could be made for the reverse. As Epitaph only shows you the future, it doesn't give you the ability to change it or effect it in any way, reflecting how helpless Doppio is on his own While the idea of erasing mistakes and removing obstacles with brute force seems to be more Diavolo's style

I always saw it as Epitaph evolved into King Crimson. But Epitaph had its own personality…and that personality was Diavolo. I think until Doppio got his stand, Diavolo never existed. And that would explain why the sudden desire to erase the past. Diavolo is slowly killing off the Doppio personality, whether accidentally or intentionally, by splitting off of him. And with that comes a desire to erase the past, so that all that remains is Diavolo.

Diavolo couldn't use the arrow to turn into requiem because Doppio is the one that needs to do that hes the real stand user of King Crimson. This makes sense and is a good theory
