Thunderstone Quest Barricades is a deckbuilding game where 1-6 players in Barricades Mode compete to see who can score the most victory points when the game ends or play cooperatively to defend the village against the attacking monsters. Each player's deck represents a party of stalwart adventurers who will face and defeat the challenges of the Dungeon and will return to the Village to recover and re-equip. Now does this look like it may be an essential expansion stay tuned to find out. If you like what you see comment subscribe, it won't cost you any gold nor will it get you trapped in the dungeon without any light.

We did make a slight mistake for a single player set up we have too many cards out in the market there should only be 4 cards and with regards to heroes there should only be two heroes. We had planned on showcasing the how to play in a two player format and neglected to make the one player adjustments.

I didn't get the playmat and I'm playing with the original board. Unless I'm missing something, the stickers that update one side of the board and the 5 barricades tokens work just fine with the original board. At least they're working fine for me.

The stickers do work just fine and you don't need the playmat. I haven't seen second version KS board as we have the first edition KS as well so I don't know if the barricades tokens are formatted for the new board I just find it disappointing the barricades tokens are clearly for the playmat and not the original board but that is a minor complaint the gameplay is fantastic.

So Coop or Solo mode has to be Barricades mode yes? Are the quests only competitive mode? I just got all this to play on my own but its so confusing i may sell it all again i dont know what is what with this game.

Alright so here is the easy breakdown and believe me we get it weren't sure where to start ourselves. The Base Game and it's quest are only competitive they are not designed as COOP. There may be some rules to make them coop included in Barricades but it has been awhile and we are not sure. The Barricades mode box contains the COOP and Solo quests but requires some of the content from the base game to work such as your basic hero cards, treasures and possibly some items but other than that it's all you need for the base game. The Guild quests and Prestige classes are designed primarily to work in COOP but are double sided to be used in competitive if you chose. The quest books will tell you how to setup the game and depending on the one you chose it will either be COOP or Competitive. The ones that were included in the New Horizons expansion can be both but you would have to look at the rulebook about those as we have yet to play them. Hopefully that's helpful if you have any other questions just let us know.

I don't feel like you mentioned in the review section whether you thought co-op was better than competitive? I've only played co-op once so far and found it a very different feel and didn't enjoy it as much.

GreenGlassScarab I think you are right and we don’t give a definitive answer however we did get to play it a few more times and we prefer the competitive mode to the co-op mode. As you say the feel is incredibly different and the game flows better. That being said we are playing through the whole campaign meaning we haven’t tried the new quests which could potentially balance them out more. We like both modes but considering how much we like playing against the game we were surprised to prefer the competitive mode.
