Thunderstone Quest Review

Great Review! Very thorough and covered everything I wanted to know. I missed the first KS so looking for the second one soon.

We've avoided going beyond two player because of concerns over playtime length, but you're right...the limited number of keys will trigger just about as quickly regardless of player count. For those who want the two-player experience (of a more developed deck), one could simply add more key cards to the monster decks.

Interested to see how the new co-op mode turns out!

Nice review. I also reviewed it on my blog (in Hungarian) after getting the Champion Pledge KS. I loved the original, I love this one more as they fixed a lot of things and made it much more immersive with the dungeon. At first, I did not like the art (not as dark as the original which I loved) but it grows on you. Also I'd advise going full 6 keys with 4 players to allow everyone to get the most kills and loot, level 3 heroes, etc. We had the most fun like that. 4 players 4 keys is a little too quick. The only negative I can think of is the quality of the cards. I did not sleeve my original TS and we played an insane amount and they still look OK. TSQ cards start degrading very quickly compared to it.

As a fan Of Thunderstone Advance I was really looking forward to picking this up. But kickstarter again, why no retail? I understand that most game company aren't very big But AEG is an established company if not very big and THunderstone is a known and popular series with an already successful Kickstarter.. I was really hoping it would hit retail, I'm getting tired of these kickstarter only games.

I bought into thunderstone and its expansions, but my first deckbuilder was dc deckbuilder. I liked the pacing of dc deckbuilder so much that thunderstone felt clunky, i am glad to hear that thunderstone quest is so much better

Hi Edie, great video as usual :-) How much player interaction is there? I worry that it looks like multiplayer solitaire (Which defeats the point of playing together with friends)

Bummer you hadn't picked up Thunderstone Dragonspire(I believe it was released right after the original Thunderstone) it was/is a standalone expansion for the base game and really brought it to the level you are just now experiencing. Subsequent expansions, as well as thunderstone Advanced made the game fantastic. You could have been enjoying thunderstone for the last 7 years!

So I just got the base set in the AEG clearance sale but I’ve seen comments that it takes too long, but then you said it doesn’t take too long. If I want to play with my group of 4, is the down time rough?

Your tastes and mine are a lot alike. Would you recommend this at champion level during 2nd kick starter run or Aeons end and it's expansions? Looking to buy another good deck builder. Your honest opinion would be great if you had to choose between them.
