On another note, if you're new to the channel, Welcome^-^ My name is Leah and I make videos on handwriting analysis and graphology :) I’m even looking into getting the certification to be a licensed graphologist so I have something tangible to prove my credibility because DISCLAIMER: I am not a licensed graphologist- YET. I just am obsessed with learning about graphology and I know probably more than I should about it. And if any gatekeepers in the comments want to criticize me for not being licensed, it costs a lot to get certified and the more I think about it, the more dumb I think that is. So if that bothers you that for the time being I’m not certified, you can go to another channel. You will be missed.

Hitler used the old German Kurrent script, which is very different from the Latin script used today. For example the long strokes aren't i dots but are a u bow that indicates if its a u or a n, otherwise u and n would look the same. And what you described as a y is a long s which is written that way without a loop. Not meant in a bad way, rather constructive ;)

Something interesting about Mussolini's - If you look closely at the second signature, the downstrokes are darker along the edges. Since this was probably taken from the late 30s to early 40s, he would've most likely been using a fountain pen. When you push too hard on a fountain pen, something called "railroading" can occur, where the tines spread enough to create two faint lines. This is almost happening with his signature, which means he wrote it with a lot of (likely aggressive) pressure. Also, it's interesting how the beginning of Hitler's signature almost looks like the SS rune over time. I wonder if that was deliberate.

I’m 100% certain he did that on purpose. Nazis are known for two things: being evil and having style. It’s worth mentioning, in case it ever comes up again, that you can admire a man’s fashion sense without subscribing to his ideologies. Like, don’t feel the need to actually join the Nazis just because you find their uniforms attractive. My teacher once pointed out that satan is the most interesting character in Paradise Lost, too.

Historical figures are such a fascinating topic to do graphology on. I noticed when watching Bob Ross's Netflix documentary, his signature escalating from underlined to having the bullet through the head stroke. I had to pause it, it really put a big nail in the coffin for me that graphology ought not be undervalued. I look forward to your video on doodles/drawings in writing!

Leah, remember that when we study people who grew up in other countries, we must be aware of the style of penmanship that they studied under. Here in the US we study "palmer" HW style in school. Other countries have different styles. I understand that after WWII, HW experts worked on changing some of the Germany writing styles, to give them less hostile writing styles. These slashes that you are looking at, maybe the style that they studied.
@vickifrasieur4630

5:41 - So nowadays, Germans use the same latin script as English speakers do but this is a relatively new development. In the first examples you showed he was most likely writing in Sütterlinschrift or Kurrentschift which is how most germans born before 1970. That said, It was outlawed sometime during the war in favor for the latin alphabet by his party because it was seen as a disorderly way of writing.

Those slashes in Hitler's handwriting were not i dots. In older German handwriting lower case u, n and m were hard to distinguish. Older people still use this slash to mark a lower case u. Just to make it easier to read. Thought you might enjoy this piece of information. Love your videos though!

I don't know if this is worth mentioning but having gone to school in Germany and Switzerland, when they taught us how to write in cursive they would force us to tilt out paper when writing to achieve a forward slant. They wanted us to write that way. So maybe that's something that just became a habit for Hitler but idk.

To add a little bit more information about German handwriting during Hitler's rise to power: The standard of handwriting was the "Deutsche Kurrent" (English Wiki: Kurrent), a unique type with specific traits like a 70 degree slant to the right and a ratio between upper, central and underline of 2:1:2. As already been mentioned in this comment section, the strokes and dots defined the letters i, j, u, y, ä, ö, ü. I, m, n and u are otherwise undistinguishable, also almost c and e. The first document is from Jan. 8th, 1938. There is the Reichsadler with a swastika in its talons, in the upper left corner. That is an offical emblem. I am not 100 % certain, but as a party emblem it was supposedly introduced in 1933, when Hitler became Reichskanzler. His writing is not very legible, so I can't give you the complete message: "Herzlichste Genesungswünsche! In (...) Ihr [UNTERSCHRIFT]" ("Warmest recovery wishes! In (...) Your(s) [SIGNATURE]") Another indicator for 1938 is the character of his signature, especially regarding his first name, which, according to the compilation a few moments later in the clip, does not resemble the one from the late 20ies.

Wow, Hitler actually wanted to die all his life He was a messenger in World War 1 (highly risky job) . Was wounded in action and decorated many times so it wasn't' like he was playing it safe. And in 1944 there was an assassination attempt on him which was almost successful which might explain the anxiety. Oh, and Stalin was a egomaniac. Very insightful analysis Thank you Fascinating stuff!
@TheGingerIvy

This is not a very accurate analysis because you don’t consider historical context of these characters beyond the bare minimum. You would have to put extensive research into the scripts itself (20th century Cyrillic, German Kurrent which is a Latin script), the ways they were taught, what was considered best practice, what were the cultural implications of styles of handwriting at the time, what do the words actually MEAN when they exhibit abnormal traits, etc. I also wonder what would happen if you went into these analyses a little more unbiased (Hitler clearly must have been depressed, angry and suicidal, right?) So while this is a great video essay idea, it really doesn’t develop the potential of this analysis.

Hitler suffered from a neurodegenerative disorder due to being exposed to sarin gas in WW1, one of the effect of that is Increased hand shaking over time. I think that's a better explanation of why his handwriting started changing so drastically over time.

About Hiltler (Swiss kiddo here so I might be of on some things. Also I feel like the writing system changes slightly every couple of years… don’t ask me why. I don’t mean anything drastic but like slight changes? The way I was taught to write is significant different to how my gran was tought (mom didn’t learn writing in Switzerland) and the new curriculum teachers (again) a vastly different style of solely block letters that are easily connectable.) Strokes instead of dots: we where actually taught to do them that way, but instead of going vertically, they’re supposed to go horizontally. Wasn’t Voldemort actually inspired by Hitler? Same alphabet sweetie… And I am going to judge you for that one! Again I was taught to write with a forward slant just as strong as his. Hock on most capital letters could again be a taught thing. His full name is Adolf Hitler… notice how the f in his signature barely is in the middle zone and crashes really low in to the lower zone. Like the stroke crossing the f (still taught the same way and supposed to be at the bottom or top of the mod zone) is like a solid centimetre under the baseline. A opens at the top increasingly, the D and L stay in the middle zone and are barely legible. Though the whole time that weird f stays the same while all the other letters disappear… the A somehow morphs almost in to a capital L or a weird C? ALSO… please look at Kim jong-un…there are rumours about his health deteriorating drastically in the last couple of years. If you’re interested in more I recommend checking out “ Voice of North Korea by Yeonmi Park” she’s a defector and made a couple of videos on the subject. PS: If you’re uncomfortable with talk about $exslavory avoid any video that includes “pleasure squad” in the title…

Love the video! I got a question, if forward slanted handwriting means someone who doesn't understand boundaries or pushes others, and if backward slanted handwriting means holding back and hiding your emotions, what would handwriting with constantly changing slants mean? Asking 'cause I often notice my handwriting is often uneven and the slant changes a lot.

i know graphology doesn't have a proven scientific basis but i do believe that it has indeed some fundamentals. We are all aware of how our own writing changes throughout the years or depending on the emotional state we're going through, it manifests itself in the way we approach the paper. Since I think most of the traits have been generalized by empirical evidence the risk is highlighting some features that are not really there, however just like you said it's more about finding a general picture among the different traits and finding which one comes out more frequently: i've analyzed a couple of handwriting from my friends because you got me into it and i have to say that it is indeed true, one or two traits will come out pretty frequently. It's really really fascinating

Hitler would have written in a script called Sütterlin, which was very common in Germany until WWII (and people who learned it in school would have kept it later; my great-aunt still used it in the 1960s). It's unreadable for people who don't know it and who don't understand German; I can read it, but it takes some deciphering. The letter that looks like an "f" is an "s", and the "i dots" are not i dots, but they are bars that were put above the letter "u" to distinguish it from the letter "n", which would have looked exactly the same without that bar (some Germans who use the usual Latin alphabet still put that bar above the "u", despite it's no longer necessary). Basically, all low case "small" letters like a, e, i, o, u, m, n, were all just like angular waves with only very small details to tell them apart. Even closed letters like a or o were written "open" (for instance, the o wasn't a circle, but an angular wave, too, with a tiny loop on the right hand side). It's already hard to decipher with people who have good handwritings, but Hitler's handwriting was really bad, which makes it even harder. Check out the Wikipedia article if you're interested: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/S%C3%BCtterlin

Cyrillic (which is the script used for Russian) handwriting is a little different, but it pretty much keeps the basic strokes that the Latin script has. I would like to see you analise a Greek handwriting. Greek has no officially recognised handwritten form of letters (only printed style), so most Greeks invent their own handwritten forms of the letters.

By the early 1940s, Hitler was a full-blown addict who was administered various forms of amphetamine throughout the typical day and morphine in the evening. In April 1940, he issued a “stimulant decree” and forms of amphetamine (e.g., Pervertin, Benzedrine, etc) were standard issue to war fighters and leadership alike. He was also a trained artist who was interested in occult grimoire sigils; his signature creates an arc and sometimes a pyramid shape w sharp activation lines, like the logo of his SS . Both facts should be considered in graphological interpretations as they are significant confounds.

German does not have a different alphabet, but the cursive handwriting he grew up with, “Kurrent”, is quite a bit different from other Latin scripts

when you got Musolinni T, I, stalin underlining (not that often or heavy but still), and hitlers sloppiness also that crashing indicating sucididalness, that fit 'bout 3-4 years ago

Hello mi Amiga. I can't find your post with this layout. Wanted to say it's cool if you don't pop out a vid on a Monday. Your content is great, it's worth the wait. I'm sure any of these guy's would say the same. I had a direct question to ask. I seen a clip where the words got bigger throughout the full sentence. The first letter in each word was slightly bigger than the others as well. Was hoping to get your opinion on this. Can't stop analyzing everything I see now, all thanks to you Leah. Thank you, happy holidays btw.

Someone should analyze trumps signature. I had it on my desk in a work situation about 30 years ago and it frightened me so much I thought I saw the mark of the beast. I literally jumped back like I just saw a frightening ghost or something. Premonition?

Hitler at the end of his life was suffering from Parkinson disease, hence irregular signature. Mussolini was an agressive man in gis yourh, he carried a knife, and he was involved in duels.

Stalin was Georgian, not Russian. From what I heard about Stalin from my relatives who lived under his rule that checks out. Full of himself and very intense.

“ Hitler was using a diff alphabet than the Latin alphabet my bad” I think that is slightly misleading. The German writing was still in the Latin alphabet, but in a different typeface family. Printed in Fraktur, and handwritten in Sütterlin.

I don't know what to say about the handwriting of historical figures. It's extremely easy to cheat when you know a lot of things about certain people.

This reminds me of that time my sister use a picture of Hitler or Hitlers' painting as her phone background. I know that at the time it was a popular meme in Vietnam to ironically worship Hitler but it's still an interesting story to tell. Also his paintings sucks lol /j

I don't think they're that bad. Maybe a little uninspired, but so are the vast majority of paintings. There aren't many Monet's and Picasso's in the world. As far as your average art student's portfolio goes, it was better than 90% of what gets submitted nowadays.

@@popstel2286 They're obviously not perfect, let's not forget that he wasn't even a student when he did them. It's a matter of the times I think. Back in his day, universities emphasized technical skill over imagination or expressivity, which is why he painted the way he did. If he were to submit them to a modern university they would disqualify him for lack of diversity. You kind of have to give universities what they want to see.

My dad is Austrian, and I had to say that the forward slant is how everyone back then wrote in austria and Germany. Btw, muricans... they don t even know that German is based on the Latin alphabet and ps, I have a document with Hitler s signature which looks a (bit) different, but it s normal I gues...

As a jew it made me realize that our holocause wasn't fully his fault, his mental health was 100% fucked and no one in his area was smart enough to see and fix that. He was so out of his mind that he made people kill so many other people for the confidence he never had and just when he started losing this confidence society gave him he committed suicide. His story is kinda sad if I'm not comparing it to my family's story (basically, everyone in my family got killed except for 4 members :) )
