First thing I checked was if this comment was already posted. +1. I'm pretty sure Anakin would question Dooku, and since Palpatine is still 'locked' in the chair I wonder if he would be forced to kill Anakin and try to convince Obi-Wan that they killed each other. It would also leave Palpatine without a future apprentice that would help lead to the rise of the Empire, and it would be interesting to see whom he would get as a new one/how he would manipulate the Jedi(if he can) seeing the new circumstances.

I can speculate that if Anakin spared Dooku and then continued on as the movie progressed as they try to leave, Palpatine would still tell him to leave Obi-Wan behind, but fail. Palpatine would then be subjected to having to drag Dooku along with them since his hands were sliced off and since the elevator wasn't working, when the ship turned and they managed to get into the shaft, Dooku would have had to have been dragged into by his cloak, rather than get into it on his own. The rest of the scene would play out as follows, the ship turns right side up, Anakin's robot arm would be clinging to the cable, holding on to Palpatine, Obi-Wan, who would regain consciousness and notice the change of scenery, and Dooku, who would be very scared about falling to his doom, then when the elevator started working again, Obi-wan would quickly grab Dooku by the cloak and pull him through, barely missing the elevator. They would then help him up, and make the comment about finding something to fly out of the hanger in. General Grievous would then activate the Ray shields and Dooku, completely helpless to interfere, would then be dragged to see him after they get captured by the droids. Upon seeing Grievous on the Bridge, Dooku would insist he be brought to the medical bay and get prosthetic hands put in place of his severed limbs. Once he left the bridge, flanked by two Mark 1 battle droids, the scene would play out exactly as it is, only Anakin would then have to capture Dooku again after rescuing Palpatine from the Magna Guards. Dooku would then have to take a seat and get strapped in by force as the ship would then enter the atmosphere and make its....interesting landing. Cut to the next scene when they get to the Senate building and have Mace greet Palpatine, then look Dooku straight in the eye, and say "You will answer for your crimes against the Republic, Count, as well as to the Jedi who have died during this war" or something to that effect. Dooku would then be taken away and given prosthetic hands, and put under heavy security, flanked by Temple Guards. Until Order 66, he stays in captivity, and once the Temple guards either betray the Jedi and join Sidius like in the new canon, or defend the temple, Dooku escapes, grabs a lightsaber and starts witnessing Operation Knightfall. He then realizes what is happening and tries to contact Sidius in a communication room, who then says "There can only be two. And you are no longer my apprentice!" just as Anakin enters the room and stabs him through the chest, ending his life.
@mayeastrise
@mayeastrise 8 лет назад
A few posibilities: 1. Palpatine kills them all and escape. He says that he was freed by the Jedi who stayed to battle Dooku and died during the crash. (This is unlikely because he wants Anakin as an apprentice.) 2. He force chokes the unconscious Obi-Wan Kenobi and kills him so Anakin thinks that Dooku killed him and kills Dooku. 3. He hire some bounty hunters to kill Dooku before he can be interrogated. 4. Dooku dies "tragically" during the crash on Coruscant.

I think the reason Dooku did not give up Anakin because Darth Tyranus was full aware this was a test of his worthiness to remain a Sith Lord at the side of Darth Sidious. Look at the set up, a duel to the death between two combatants with the Dark Lord himself seated at his throne and watching. The winner not only lives, but claims his place as Sith Lord. Sidious continued to challenge Darth Vader in the same manner many times, right up until the duel with Luke Skywalker. Tyranous knew he was being tested and failure was death.

George lucas originally intended Jar Jar to be the main villain in the prequels with him being the one who orchestrated the whole plan. There is actually a surprising amount of evidence in episode one to suggest this. After how much he seen people hated him, he decided he didn't want to doom the franchise, and so made alternative arrangements. I think that Jar Jar being a sith would have redeemed him. What a better mask to hide behind than that of an idiot?

It's hard to explain, & I'll probably get a lot of "No"s but that technically means that the Separatists & the Republic are on the same side. Technically. Because Palpatine is both the Chancellor, & the Dark Lord of the Sith, & that makes him leader of both sides, so from a certain point of view, the Republic & Separatists are on the same side. But, they just don't know it. It's like that one episode from the Clone Wars where General Krell sends the Clones out to fight the enemy, & he says the enemy is wearing their armor, but they don't know that General Krell sent the Clones to kill each other. It's like that from a Certain Point of View,

Thank you so much for this! I was just coming on to ask you to do a new "What If" scenario, which I'll get to.I wanted to say that when Dooku is killed by Anakin, the look on his face at Palpatine is that of raw, hurt betrayal. But it's a resignation because Dooku knows that it is the way of the Sith to seek out the most powerful apprentice. And, I think it's fair to say, Dooku had planned to do the same to Palpatine - eventually. It's indeed very obvious that Dooku knew of Palpatine's identity as Sidious. I'd also like to add in a footnote (since the Sith are always vying for power) that in Ep2 when Dooku is holding Obi-Wan hostage, he gives the hint of the Republic being controlled by Darth Sidious as his own way of testing the waters. He wanted to see if Obi-Wan would hear him out and become Dooku's apprentice. How fitting would it be for his student's (Qui-Gin) student to become the next Sith apprentice under Dooku's tutelage? Dooku may have convinced himself that if Obi-Wan could be turned then Obi-Wan's distaste for the Sith might be enough to bring him to the Dark Side; perhaps to make him a Dark Jedi. Since this failed, we see Assaj Ventress take that role.So my What If suggestions ties into this a little bit: What if the Confederacy of Independent Systems (the Separatists) won the Clone Wars? What would the galaxy look like under Confederate rule?And - bonus now that I think of it - What if Obi-Wan *had* listened to Dooku? Would we see an epic showdown of Obi-Wan/Dooku vs Palpatine? Could Palpatine still convince Anakin to become Darth Vader? Would maybe Obi-Wan/Dooku vs Palpatine/Vader be a battle? Could the Clone Wars have continued on for years more?Thanks for everything you do & keep it up!

I agree, I think it was shock of Palpatines betrayal(which shows Dooku's naivete, as betrayal is the way of the Sith) and was killed too quickly to really think of exposing Palatine. I think, at first, Dooku thought it was some kind of test for him, and by the time he realized the finality of the betrayal, his head was rolling along the deck.

+VideoCopierCenteral He has a point though. Yoda probably would have killed Anakin instead of letting him live like Obi Wan did, even though Obi thought Anakin was going to die on his own and couldn't bring himself to kill him. Obi Wan would've died, but Yoda could've just as easily trained Luke, went to Tatooine instead of Obi Wan. Then Yoda and Luke could've defeated the Emperor much sooner, and Vader and Obi Wan would still meet the same fight that they did in canon. The look on Dooku's face said that he figured it was Palpatine(maybe even at that moment)... but didn't realise that he was playing the wrong game. It was shock that he had been out-manoeuvred and been discovered. Count Dooku was really trying to out the Sith Lord if you recall. He even said so to Obi-Wan Kenobi. He might have thought he would ultimately figure out how to beat him. Alas. In his death he realised too late that his intentions were known before hand. And it's possible that Palpatine deviously lent his power to Anarkin in the fight. Another shocker for Dooku.

The Jedi had a feeling that the circumstances surrounding the Clones were mysterious, but the Jedi didn't have a choice but to trust the clones. The large-scale return of the Sith and the rise of Confederacy of Independent Systems forced the Jedi to accept the army they were given, despite their mis-givings about the Clone army. Basically, the Jedi suspected the Clones weren't what they seemed; but they had no choice but to trust them.

I always felt that Dooku knew Sidious was a Senator but he didn't know which one. It was only when he heard the change in Palpatine's voice when he said "Do it!" that he realized the truth. Hence the surprised look on his face and his inability to say anything to Anakin. Knowing that Dooku was a "temporary" apprentice, Sidious would not want to reveal too much to him.

Hey Stupendous Wave, you left out an important part on Dooku not giving away Palpatine. Dooku did almost give away Palpatine (not sure if the book is considered cannon anymore, but it was the Star Wars Episode 3 novel) when, after having his hands cut off, Dooku starts to beg and call out for his Master to save him and spare him from death. I believe (I'm not 100% sure on this) that Anakin assumed Dooku was calling out to a Master who could hear him but was not present.

Yeah the one thing about Dooku is that he literally played as much of a role in the rise of the Sith than Palpatine because he was the one who was more involved with it while Sidious was standing on the sidelines until he was forced into action. Dooku's story is just as tragic as Anakin's because he was among the greatest Jedi who lost his way with the light side, but he at least retired from the Jedi order at first. The big irony was that he saw the corruption in the Republic before anyone else while the Jedi simply ignored his concerns there. He then lost his greatest friend and probably something similar to an adopted son in Qui-Gon that then broke his will towards the dark side. As a Sith, he proved to be very powerful by being able to beat both Obi-Wan & Anakin and fighting on similar scale with Yoda in Episode 2 and proved to be a very powerful enemy against the Jedi Order during the Clone Wars. In summary, Dooku was a secondary character in the Star Wars franchise who easily had the storyline of a primary character!

I think that ultimately - in regards to Anakin himself - Dooku did not out Palpetine as a Sith Lord, because he simply wouldn't be believed. Not only was Dooku's warning about a Sith Lord controlling the senate all but disregarded as lies and deceit by Yoda and Windu, but Anakin had personally grown fond of Palpetine; seeing him as a friend and mentor even from young age. Also - could you do a video on who Sifo-Dyas? I figured that Dooku or Palpetine assumed his identity in order to make the Clone Army order to the Kaminooans, but what about the man himself? What is HIS story?

Dooku did know, that was why when Palpatine ordered Anakin to kill him, he looked surprised. As a Sith however, they are always searching for a stronger teacher and more power, so this order should not have been a shock to Dooku. He knew who Palpatine was in Episode 2, when Obi Wan was captured, he revealed in his own way that the Republic was being run by a Sith Lord.

But in TCW they changed this when they did the arc about the inhibitor chips and Dooku revealed they were always meant to exterminate the Jedi.

In the novelization of Revenge of the Sith, Dooku didn't give Palpatine up because he was simply shocked at the betrayal. That's it. He was attempting figure it out in his head, at the worst possible moment, how the situation turned against him. When he finally figured out that he got played by Palpatine/Sidious, with two lightsabers at this throat, it was too late to say anything to anyone. He was taken in, just like everyone else.

Your video is perfect and I always thought YES Dooku knew Palpatine was sidious and when Anakin defeated dooku, Palpatine says Kill Him, Dooku realizes his Master no longer wants or needs Dooku and Anakin is meant to replace Dooku at Palpatine's side. Yelling "Palpatine is Darth Sidious !" would be pointless because it wouldn't be believed and it wouldn't stop Anakin from killing Dooku.
@WAValenti
@WAValenti 8 лет назад
Maybe Dooku was just shocked at feeling the Dark Side welling up inside Anakin right at that final moment he was incredulous that Sidious had used him as a pawn the entire time. Remember, Palpatine knew about Anakin and his potential as the most powerful Jedi ever before he and Dooku ever met (even if you don't believe the fan theory about Palpatine being Anakin's father or creating him through the Force). After the (supposed) death of Darth Maul, Palpatine knew his next apprentice was going to have to be someone extremely manipulative in order to help him get to Anakin, which is probably why Dooku was such a good candidate, as someone who was never completely loyal to the Jedi Order, and someone who was tied up in various allegiances and influences in galactic politics. He also needed someone powerful enough to stand up to the Jedi in general, but not so powerful that Anakin couldn't ultimately defeat him, and that is exactly what he got.
@WAValenti
@WAValenti 8 лет назад
It also kind of mirrors the similar scene in RotJ with Palpatine sitting in front of that same window, where Vader is basically willingly helping him recruit Luke, knowing that if he is successful, Luke will likely have to kill him. It seems to just be the way of the Sith to submit to your more powerful master, and allow your life to be taken, because it is ultimately less valuable to you than increasing the power of the Sith.
@WAValenti
@WAValenti 8 лет назад
I never really liked the aspect of "rhyming" for the sake of rhyming in the PT, but this is perhaps the only instance where I think it was really effective storytelling. Similar to this channel's "What If..." videos. What if Luke had successfully been seduced at the end of RotJ? Well, here we sort of get the answer. The players all fulfill their roles, with the disrupting factor being the presence of Obi-Wan, whose influence over Anakin is still very resonant, and so Anakin's total conversion to the dark side is delayed, with this scene being in the first act of RotS, and the scene it mirrors being in the last act of RotJ.

I liked Duku's charachter. He follwed his own path to the end not betraying what he thought the path faithful to his vision, though misguided. In the end just another betrayed by the dark side for its own uses. It added a third dimension not seen since in the following films. Hopefully there's depth to the sequels other than new cg and recycling of storylines.

Read Revenge of the Sith by Matthew Stover. In the beginning, when Palpatine needed "rescuing", he and Dooku we're talking of their plot to turn Anakin . . . . It states that Sidious looked like "an event horizon" in the Force. Yes, Dooku was aware that Palpatine was Sidious. This was established years ago.

Dooku was a pawn to Sidious , his sacrifice was neccasary in drawing the war to a close and appoint Anakin as his successor. I'm intrigued to see empire propaganda immediately following the war and failed assassination attempt by Windu and other jedi . Remember , the idea that the Jedi are engaging in a conspiracy to take over the republic is mentioned by Palpatine a good few times in episode 3 . But the jedi were clueless , igmorant that the sith were controlling the republic and I believe an overlooked key moment is in that scene in episode 2 where dooku tells half the story to obi wan but fundamentally , that a sith Lord controls the republic . This is important ! Because while the council scoff at such an idea , the thought is planted . The reason Dooku gives away the big secret is so that the Jedi will eventually make their move and attempt to arrest or assassinate Sidious which then justifies order 66 . There's a scene wherethe council talk of removing palpatine from office should he not reverse his emergency powers and it is pointed out that this would , if temporarily, give Jedi control over the Senate . Palpatine masterminded everything brilliantly , or rather Lucas did .

All of these questions are answered if you read the books (and watched the movies, to a lesser extent). Dooku was using Palpatine to learn from him, and he was going to betray him eventually. Dooku didn't care about being a Sith any more than he cared about being a Jedi. He wanted to run the show and bring order to the galaxy. He lost faith in everyone with any kind of political power. He wanted Obi Wan to join him. He actually tried to talk Palpatine into keeping ObiWan alive and against Anakin, but Palpatine had his mind made up. Its for this reason that most likely Palpatine knew he had to get rid of Dooku. And yes, Dooku absolutely knew of Palpatine/Sidious' identity. He even said it to Obi Wan in the 2nd movie. (didn't need to read the book to answer that question..)

I personally always suspected that Dooku knew about Sidious' identity as Palpatine. Given what had to happen prior to the Clone Wars and during, it's impossible to believe that Dooku didn't know... At least for me it is. But anyways, at the end of it all when Palpatine ordered Anakin to kill Dooku after their duel, I too think that chances are Dooku was just too shocked to reveal who Palpatine truly was. But I'd take it a step further than that... Dooku was a Sith long enough to know their ways, how they operate. He knew Sith weren't inclined to show mercy, especially where failure was concerned. I know some would perceive that Palpatine knew Anakin would win and that Dooku was merely a glorified place-holder, and for the most part I'd agree. But Anakin still would have to prove himself to be strong enough and worthy enough to be Sidious' apprentice, and that meant going through Dooku. So in a way, while Dooku fulfilled his purpose, he still failed to prove himself worthy enough to remain at Sidious' side, even if Sidious never intended to keep Dooku as his apprentice. So with that in mind, I think after his initial shock faded before the killing blow was dealt, Dooku resigned himself to death, knowing that he failed to prove himself worthy enough to continue serving Palpatine as an apprentice. True enough, maybe in the end he still figured better the Sith than the ineffectual Jedi and their corrupt Senate, but I think it may be more likely that he was enough of a Sith to accept their ways and by extension accept his fate. He failed, and no mercy would be shown for his failure.

You say that Dooku was extremely loyal to Darth Sidious, and people wondered why he never gave up Palpatine after being subdued by Anakin. However, he did elude to it when he tried to turn Obi-Wan to his cause in Attack of the Clones. While he never gave him up by name, he said the Republic was being controlled by the Sith Lord; and that it was confirmed through the viceroy of the Trade Federation, who served and was betrayed by the Sith Lord called "Darth Sidious", 10 years earlier. So, what if Obi-Wan had "bit" on the offer? I feel that had Obi-Wan joined Dooku, at that moment, that Dooku would have broke allegiance to Darth Sidious. That Obi-Wan outright arrogantly dismissed him, that it may have been the final straw which Dooku completely gave up on the Jedi Order. Also, to me, without spelling it directly out who the Sith Lord was, that this would have shined a bright light on those who were most instrumental in directing the goings on of the Republic. So, had Obi-Wan not outright dismissed Dooku claims, due to his own pride or arrogance, I would think that the Jedi would have been extremely suspicious of the power players within the Republic, including the Chancellor.

While I know that you're pretty much an expert on Star Wars, it's just hard for me to trust everything that's said about it. Half the things I've heard in the past from other fans were either just fan assumptions, or theorys, and now a lot of the true stuff isn't canon anymore. I really wish you would take the time to let us know exactly what movie/book/show/comic all the info is from. You wouldn't even have to say it in the video, just cite the works in the description. I am sure that Darth Maul knew about Palpatine's plan as well. The separatist leaders did not know though. Palpatine was using them for his master plan. Remember, even in Episode I when Nute Guneray was speaking with Sidious about the blockade of planet Naboo he asked Sidious if it was "legal" to which the Sith replied "I will make it legal" right before he was elected Chancellor.
