The genius of Palpatine/Sidious's plan was that no matter _which_ side "won" the Clone Wars, he would be running things.

Count Dooku is a very unappreciated character, I'd love to read a novelization that details more about his life/thoughts/ and vision for a Sith Empire as well as how it contrasts to the actual one.

Xenophobic Dooku in the novelization always seemed odd to me, considering how he was never characterized that way anywhere else.

He wants Skywalker as his new Apprentice. *Obi-Wan Kenobi:* Is that true Anakin? *Anakin Skywalker:* It is my master, he told me to kill a unarmed prisoner. Anakin is inching slightly forward, but also being affected by glancing shocks. It's a stalemate, will Anakin be able to press ahead to strike down Siddious? Will Darth Siddious be able to overcome Anakin Skywalker with his dark power of Force lightni blaster bolts hit him straight in the heart]. *Obi-Wan Kenobi:* [throws the gun away] Uh! Dooku had a good plan, but he got so involved in the war that he just lost his head.

Dooku and Maul have always been my favorite sith. And both of them ended up being tragic characters and not truly evil

It would have been a lot cooler version of the Empire but their constant betrayals would just tear them apart and eventually collapse from within

I always felt like Dooku thought Anakin would be his padawan as he trained qui gon and he would have been a good teacher to Anakin and help him understand both sides of the force.

Dooku himself wanted to surpass Sidious, he said so when he felt Savage's endless potential. If he had tried to put his own hate to Anakin aside, and told him the truth when possible, even though Anakin wouldn't have believed him, when he was on his knees before Ani, Ani himself would have most likely not killed him there, and listen to Dooku's words again.

I mean Dooku wasn’t that far off, the inquisitors were like a small piece of what he envisioned. But of course he didn’t expect: “There can only be two. And you are no longer my apprentice!”

Dooku thought he had a place in the new order Sidious will make after the clone wars but just as Maul was merely a blunt instrument to be discarded as need be, Dooku was merely a place holder for sidious true apprentice.

I guess he got... Ahead of himself....

Christopher Lee was such a badass, truly a supreme person.

I felt like Count Dooku's origin and relationship to the Emperor could have been explained more within the prequels. At least Darth Maul and Jango Fett got some what of an introduction by another character who explained who they were. But in the movies Dooku (and Grevious) just suddenly exist.

I love the ROTS novelization too. The way it "fills in the gaps" like this without feeling like an afterthought - the reasoning behind everyone's behavior flows naturally into the story. And not to mention all the things that didn't make it into the movie, like the subplot about the proto-Rebellion, or little things like Obi-Wan initially suggesting he'd raise Luke himself only for Yoda to shoot down that idea. I love the movie, but the novelization is the definitive version in my mind because of how strong an adaptation it is and how much it enhances the story.

What both Dooku and Anakin failed to recognize was the fact that Sidious never planned to carry on with the rule of two after the formation of the empire in the sense that he would be succeeded by his apprentice but in reality planned to live as emperor forever and didn't care about his apprentices fates after his plans came into reality.

Around the time Revenge of the Sith came out in theaters, I was in a Barnes and Nobles bookstore and wanted to buy Stover's novelization, but didn't have the money, and a random guy bought the book for me. I must've read that book a dozen times as a kid, and it also helped shape some of my early philosophies, and every time I watch videos like this, I'm reminded of how much of a solid that guy did me. If you're out there and somehow read this, from the bottom of my heart, thank you.

Dooku probably thought he could take Anakin and obi wan. He did it once and he he probably thought Palpatine would keep him safe if necessary

The “Rule of two” could have been quite literal. Two Sith commanding, incorporate the rule that one of the apprentices could fairly challenge them, and state that they wouldn’t pass their power on unless fairly challenged when at their best. That’s how I see a truly powerful Sith Empire.

When he said : "Dooku's Empire would be an Empire of man.", I immediately thought about the Imperium of Man with the holy Emperor and a total war against all non-humans.

Dooku seems to forget that revsn's army was a rare case. Most of the time the sith betrayed each other. They're always trying to grab more power. Also they are often times to arrogant to realize whos their superior.

Palpatine wouldn't have gone for Dooku's plan. He didn't want any threats to his own power. He only kept Vader because he was easy to control (or so he thought).

In legends continuity, Dooku actually knew the full plan, and was aware his duel with Anakin was a duel to the death. It wasn't uncommon for Palpatine to test his apprentice's in this manner, as seen in the Maul comics made by dark horse, with "winner stays on" stakes, ensuring Palpatine always had the strongest apprentice possible. Dooku's choice was simple, win the duel, go on to be the right hand of the empire, or loose, and die, with Anakin becoming the new sith Apprentice.

The biggest flaw with his idea was that Anakin without ever being horribly damaged would if been far more powerful than Dooku and even palpatine so Dooku still would of died as there is no way Anakin would of served under him.

There are two what if scenarios I would like to see. 1 What if Dooku had gone too far and killed Anakin on Geonosis? 2 What if Anakin had obeyed Obi-Wan and fought in unison with him against Dooku?

"Eliminating all sand from the Galaxy." So THAT'S what Dooku thought the Death Star was for!

I actually like Dooku's vision. Far more thought put into it and far less selfish than what Sidious implemented. It also reminds me of Warhammer which automatically makes it awesome in my books

I always assumed that Dooku had good intentions, that he and Qui-Gon Jinn were 2 sides of the same coin--with his apprentice being more akin to a Grey Jedi and Dooku being a Grey Sith. I always assumed that Dooku's intentions with the Separatists were pure, that he believed Sideous would cause the Republic to crumble using the Clones to turn against the framed Jedi, forcing the Separatists to win and gain control of the galaxy, thus ending the seedy corruption that had slowly ensared the Republic and the feckless Jedi Order. That was my impression, anyway...

Dooku had a similar view to the imperium in 40k lol.

i think killing dooku was one of the biggest mistakes made by sidious. the man had incredible dueling capabilities, a true understanding of the dark side AND true political prowess and experience.

Count Dooku is a cinematic icon. Great character alongside most of the characters created in the prequels.

Bane's plan was essentially hide, wait, build power, take advantage of opportunities, strike when ripe. He didn't limit the Sith who would succeed him by locking down specific plans.

Fun fact: Dooku was actually more afraid of living because his hands were cut off and was disgusted at the thought of being part machine for the rest of his life so maybe, in a twisted way, Papatine having him killed could've also been seen as a sign of graciousness for his services. Edit: Not sure if it's Disney canon or Legends canon

Dooku post-war playing the victim and putting blame on Grievous is like Hirohito after WW2 and blaming Hideki Tojo for what Imperial Japan did.

Palpatine wanted the "Rule of 2"(glad he didn't want Rule 34), only, with *his* will living on through apprentice after apprentice after apprentice(for example, see Darth Zash in SWTOR, or Tenebre in KOTET). Basically, a twisting of Bane's rule. Dooku wanted a more Malgus deal. An emperor with an army of powerful warriors and soldiers. Both are dark(for light Sith, see Emperor Fel), but one embraced a more bureaucratic form of Sith, while the other embraced a more traditional way. To quote Koth(but with more sincerity): "Choices, choices."☺

The problem at the end of the Day with having a Sith Army is that they all believe they should be the Emperor.
