They know that their grandchild is the founding titan. As his name has been mentioned a lot! They probably don’t know that they met him. To them he’s just some devil that lives across the sea.
I honestly do feel so bad for the grandparents. Like they were just trying to live their lives and get by. They got caught up in Grisha’s, Zeke’s, and Eren’s stuff
They just accepted Faye's fate that led to Grisha being who he was and the Episode's title was "Sinners" and they were shown in the episode to show that they paid for it
I don’t feel bad for them dying but don’t hate them either. They were to brainwashed and scared and weren’t brave enough to question the marlyeans and fed their children the same propaganda.
It's chilling because they didn't do anything wrong directly. They were only trying to preserve their own survival, so they were obedient to marley. Deep down, they probably agreed with Grisha, but probably didn't have the courage to say it. They are blamed for zeke's betrayal when they had nothing to do with that and were left imprisoned, unlike all other prisoners, probably as a form of judgment as they were the indirect cause for the rumbling
I agree with everything you said, with one large exception---the "they probably agreed with Grisha, but didn't have the courage to say it". No. Dr. and Mrs. Jaeger were very much "good Eldians" brainwashed by Marley into believing that their people were accursed monsters and deserved to suffer. Now, I do think that they certainly downplayed Faye's death to stave off the destruction of their entire family, but everything else was genuine belief via lifelong indoctrination. People who don't really believe the lies wouldn't tell the Marley-sanctioned history with such passion (in the anime, Dr. Jaeger actually does an excited "fist pump" while talking about how the Eldian Empire was destroyed) or spend time indoctrinating their grandson with false history, to the point of doing it even when he explicitly wanted a normal children's story. I don't think they exactly deserved to be crushed under the skinless feet of The Rumbling, and they certainly lived terrible and deprived lives...but they were much more culpable than it might seem on the surface, and I think they knew it too, hence their reaction when The Rumbling came.
@@stargatecommand714 do you expect them to be a rebell like Grisha? And then end up as a titan? How about you blame holocoust surviver for end up in prison? Eren's grandparent just try to survive inside concentration camp, if it mean they have to lick their oppresser boot to survive then they will do it. Stop blaming the victim for their silence, i bet your parent will do the same if it mean your survival.
But eren Yeager did say his name in the path dimension tho, I think they realize it. Eren never got to be with his grandparents and I understand why he choose his friends over them. (His grandparents is just a status of being his relative) the person he really cares about is his friends.

It’s possible for sure, but it depends on whether Yeager is a common name. Personally if I was them, I’d find it hard to believe that this ‘Eren Yeager’ is the child of my son who was killed by Marley 20 years ago!
@@TurtleQuirk well I’m guessing news about the incident with Grisha and the ship that took them there was known in Marley. So another Yeager popping up would help them connect the dots

Every single member of the Jaeger family has been through so much pain, including the grandparents. I liked how the anime went into more detail of The Rumbling.
I knew his Grandparents were killed in the rumbling because I knew that they were on the mainland when the rumbling happened. I read the manga, however it never showed Erens grandparents after his talk with his grandfather on the bench so I just logically assumed, cool that they added the scene in the anime to confirm it.
He did Actually. He used every last ability of attack titan to gain the strongest being in the verse aside Ymir and then also changed peoples views beacuse of his actions and made his friends look like world savers
But at cost of mass genocide which he already saw earlier with his abilities but instead he could have figured a different way out when he already know the future. It looked more like a POSSESSION OF FATE THAT IS INEVITABLE

Pretty sure he never abandoned his friends. Eren is that guy who can sacrifice the world but not his friends and they were portrayed like heroes in front of the world at end of manga because of him too
@@badmanjosh6091 why would he try to change it when he wanted to only save the paradise from the beginning. Marley brought it up on them and the pot was full of sins from the beginning anyways. When I rewatched s4, I realised that HE DID talk to his grandparents. At first, I didn't know it was him and just ignored it and when I found out, there were so many things happening that him talking to his grandparent just slid away which I noticed after rewatching. Man, the fact that they died without even knowing that it was him...
Eren just casually killing his whole family. He ate his dad, had his mom eaten, stepped in his grandparents, and had zeke killed in the process of rumbling.
Eren killed his mom Eren killed his father (In order to acquire his powers) Eren trampled both of his grandparents Eren killed himself (basically allowed himself to be killed by Mikasa) Bro literally game-ended nearly his entire bloodline, only Zeke escaped, and even he still got something (trapped, betrayed and then used)

The thing is that eren in this story is neither the hero, nor is he the villain. He is just a victim of hatred within the world and someone who fought for freedom no matter the cost of that freedom. The rumbling was that cost, and it had to be done and it was already written as he had visibly ‘seen’ the unchangeable future.
@@stargatecommand714 Eren is not a hero he confirms this himself, the main reason for the Rumbling is for his own freedom and the safety of Paradis Island is only a benefit. Because they wouldn’t do a thing any way, them talking to Eren wasn’t going to do a thing considering what he saw them let marleyan soldiers and civilians do to his aunt
@@kyledeguzman165 what I meant is, they can't run away like the other Eldians. Since they were in the jail cell. All they can do is sit there waiting for death to arrive
In the manga, it’s not known if they died or not (though they probably did), so their deaths in the anime are probably a way to abridge the story a bit.
Eldians who live in the luxury of other continents don't deserve Eren's " salvation " . Eren understood this but has no choice . Any Eldian who lived outside the walls will have to bear the consequence to be crushed by their own blood race whom they alienated from . And again sorry for being talking religious stuff . At the end , Eren dies being slain by his own people ( his own people are Mikasa , Armin , Jean , and Connie ) . I didn't count the warriors since they fight for the world which they believe Eren's actions is wrong . And Eren is against the world that would potentially wipe out their island if left untreated . I think they knew. Before the rumbling, Eren was public enemy #1. At the declaration of war I’m sure his grandfather or grandfather heard about him or Zeke told them about him.
I have a question, in 138 how did mikasa know that eren was in the mouth? Did she know the whole time? If so then the whole battle on eren could’ve been prevented if they just all went to his mouth from the start
IMO we can’t blame them that much, they were just trying to protect him. If Grisha had believed the Marlyean propaganda like they wanted, then he would’ve had a *much* more quiet life 🤣

One of the points of AoT is showing how conflicts and their consequences impact everyone and that in the end everyone is insignificant in the grand scheme of things.
Considering the name "Eren Yeagar, the enemy of the world" was used many times, I think its fair to believe they at least had some idea they were related to Eren. Remember there was someone on the island with the same surname as Reiner. They were not brothers but were probably linked through same ancestors closer than others were
Yes, but Grampa Yeager didn’t realize he was talking to him in the beginning of Season 4. Though, I think Zeke told them that Grisha started a new family in Paradis.
That part wasn't in the Manga and I ever wonder what happened to them (even though I had a feeling they were dead), still tho it's nice to get some confirmation in the Anime.
He’s grandpa was in the stands after he ate that dude on stage and rush to the stands where his grandpa just looked at him without knowing who he was before war hammer appeared
He also made Dina kill his mother. Dina was supposed to eat Bertholt when they attacked Shinganshina, but Eren steered her away towards his mom, to get the future he wanted. You’ll hear it when he talks with Armin right before he dies.
That's something I didn't understand. Why did he have to trample Marley? The King gave half of his subjects to Marley to save himself. He couldn't have his Rumbling go past Marley and destroy everything else?
I mean they probably know Eren is their grandson. They've definitely heard his name before and Zeke could've told them about him as well since Zeke seemed to be relatively close with them.
So does Zeke actually care about his grandparent? Since he planned on betraying Marley why can't he arrange for his grandparent to be extradited too? Does he not care about them?
