First red flag for me is how overly descriptive and wordy and prolonged The husband is at the first interview of why he’s in crutches. Here his wife is missing and could be potentially in danger or deceased, and all he wants to do is talk about himself.
Excessive details is always a cause for suspicion regardless if he was asked. The fact that he was hauling 60lb hay bails right before the initial interview tells you all you need to know about the seriousness of his condition.

There is not enough direct evidence to convict him. But I'm 100% sure he did it. How else would that second phone be found with her phone? and instead of talking about where his missing wife is, he's talking in depth about his injury and parties his wife went to. 41:04 On a side note this man made a bold fashion choice for court.

My ex-partner and me lived together for several months after the separation till I found my own apartment. 🤷🏼♀️ We are still regularly in contact four years after we split up and we both know, that if the sh-t hits the fan, we can count on each other.
What most people do not realize is that if you are killed by your spouse, more likely than not, the children you love very much will be here valiantly supporting your killer. No one want to believe their mom or dad would do something like that, even if evidence is irrefutable. Unfortunately for this case, the evidence was circumstantial.
As all evidence is except for eyewitness or confession. DNA, fingerprints are all “circumstantial.” It’s as good as direct, maybe better. Eyewitness ID is notoriously unreliable. Confessions can be false. The implication that it’s lesser is untrue. The DA maybe failed to argue it well. Of course David Swift killed his wife. I pity Karen’s mother.
I’m sure the 9 year was told through the years what to believe by her manipulative, killer father. For her to say her Mother moved her. When on the first interview she only remembered waking up in the room with her sister. Didn’t know how she got there. And the father never allowed any more interviews, and he refused to talk to the police. In the words of Karen’s mother. “Staying silent says a lot”
The fact that he is being prosecuted for stalking his second ex wife speaks volumes…. He likes to have control. She’s blessed she hasn’t been murdered.

Absolutely, the worst things I can do is tell them your leaving r that I want a divorce, the most dangerous time. It's always best to leave and not say a word , if U can anyway . Many many , people had been killed once they let their partner know they r leaving them . Unfortunately , many have been murdered even after they get away , like Jennifer Doulos, Her soon to be ex murdered her in her garage and they have never found her body . They did find tons of evidence though and video of her husband and his girlfriend dumping Jennifer's blooded clothes , that were cut off of her , and other things but never her body. They arrested both of them and another lawyer friend of his but they all got out on bond and the husband knew his bond might get revoked , so he took the cowards way out and killed himself , he was a garbage human and took his five children's Mother away and then killed himself when he was going to have to pay for what he did . His girlfriend was just convicted of helping him with his alibi and getting rid of evidence.
Oh I dunno, society has always had a lot of deviancy, but 1) divorce is a lot more common now as it’s easier to obtain 2) mobility is a lot higher so moving far from family is pretty common, thus isolation 3) social media and other news sources give us much more proximity to these acts, so we’re just hearing about it far more often. People have always been incredibly sick with intrusive, corrupt behavior but we never heard about it so much. It’s like shark attacks on the beaches- it actually happens a lot less but with our ‘if it bleeds it leads’ media accompanied by their view that a panicked public is a viewing public, we hear about every single shark victim all the time and it’s programmed the public into believing the sharks have just gone crazy.

This time, Karan had an affair… but it’s somehow different? He holds himself to a different standard? He decided to up & move them to an entirely different state! Karen had no say. She was miserable and sought an escape from him! He stalked her and his second wife. He’s not just controlling… he’s totally pathological.

Unbelievable that prosecutors are able to take weak cases like this to trial. No physical or DNA evidence so they just create a narrative of how she was killed and roll with it. This is how innocent people get imprisoned. That out of the way, he probably did it but they need a much stronger case
Right at the start of his interview with detectives he expresses no concern about his wife - he is more concerned with setting the scene for himself. Blaming his wife.
She was divorcing him, having swinger parties, getting drunk all the time.... Maybe he was getting stuff off his chest. If he would have said he loved her so much and they never had problems, you'd be saying the same bullshit trying to blame him. NOT GUILTY!

To me, it was no surprise they returned a not guilty verdict. Pushing a purely circumstantial case to the jury with nothing physical pointing to the husband sealed the deal I’m afraid. Agree, Yolo. I think he probably did it, but that’s not good enough to lock someone up for the rest of his or her life. You don’t generally like to congratulate someone for possibly doing this, but he covered his tracks pretty well. Feel bad for the family, especially her mother.
It’s important to remember that circumstantial evidence and direct evidence are both equal in weight/importance in the eye of law. Despite defense attorneys always harping the opposite.

If I were a detective, I'd have to wonder why this husband is attempting to make his wife sound like a promiscuous alcoholic in the first interview - when he's supposed to be so worried about her? The way he moved the family, didn't want her to work, etc make him look controlling.
Well, I didn't see any evidence shown to contradict that she wasn't a promiscuous alcoholic. When it is a mother of 4, two of them being two small girls, this behavior will destroy a family. Perhaps it is best that people like this be controlled for their own good. The state does it all the time.
The man “looking for the watch” was doing so with a metal detector at the same general location where the body was eventually found. But the body hadn’t been found there yet. There were two more witnesses that testified to seeing the same man there looking for something.
The husband seems awfully suspicious; The second phone being connected to the home WiFi 5 hours after her alleged disappearance is what really caught my attention. Particularly because it was found right next to her smashed main phone. Who went back to the house at 10AM for the second phone to reconnect? Didn’t the husband claim he was up by then?
I totally agree about the second phone. For what it’s worth, I watched the trial in detail and took notes on it. The state never actually showed that the second phone connected to the Swift house at 10am. The state’s expert witness said that the call *could* have been connected the swift network extender. They did not prove the assertion as they did with Karen’s iPhone, which they traced to the network extender using ip addresses logged in the call detail record from Verizon. Had the state actually proved that the 10am call occurred at the Swift home, I believe he would have been found guilty. IMO I think the state never subpoenaed the call detail record for the second phone, which if true was a massive mistake.
Always listen to your gut even if people think you’re crazy. You may even think you’re crazy. I’ve been there. So sad he got to live his life and raise the kids after taking hers. What a tragedy.

Why is it so strange for a husband to check on his wife's affairs if she is staying out late, getting drunk, and passing out naked at parties when you have two little girls at home? I think 90% of husbands would be checking on their wife in that case. That doesn't make him a nutcase.
25 phone calls in 30 minutes ok with you? He had a 3 year affair so wasn't squeaking clean himself. He was self-centered, controlling and obsessive. He is now facing another trial for stalking his 2nd wife.

Of course she will paint this man as a control freak. Not saying he didn't snap and off her, but people have their limits and his wife didn't seem to care in the least about it. Also remember that she took him back after his affair......so how bad was he? As far as stalking his 2nd wife, yes, that sure maybe a sign of his character. David’s lawyer made a good case for his client. Before seeing parts of the trial, I thought David was guilty, now I don’t know. I’m still leaning toward David as the killer in the manslaughter charge. He did a good job hiding evidence if he did it. I feel so bad for Karen’s mother. I’m sure she never saw her granddaughters again since David had custody. Hopefully, her grandsons kept in touch.
Well, at least one of her granddaughters is an adult now and can make her own decisions; didn't catch/don't remember the age of the other granddaughter at the time and versus now, all these years later.
That is always the case when couples divorced and yet still live in the same roof on the excuse of giving "stability" to their children. How can "stability" happen, especially when both spouses already started seeing someone else and yet going back home to the same house? Can someone explain the "stability" in that kind of arrangement? If anything, the children will be left confused and messed up when another "man" or "woman" becomes part of their lives! If one of the spouses is not happy in his/her marriage and had filed for divorce, each spouse should live in a separate house but still have joint custody of their children. It is better for the children to know that the marriage is over but that both parents will be there for them. One cannot make a "broken glass" whole again!

I think since this channel hadn't posted in a few weeks due to taking a holiday that people are just expressing their gratitude that JTL has finally returned. It is quite common though on other true crime content creators that I watch as well.

Every crime doc I watch, the cops be like: they were over reacting, the next crime show: they weren't showing enough reaction. I have yet to hear a cop say they reacted exactly how they should, so he/she is not a suspect. LOL
Yes exactly. When people are in shock or go through something horrific no one acts in the same manor as everyone else. It's crazy. I love watching these crime shows but it's hard to see if there is justification for the victims because law enforcement and detectives either contradict what they say or just automatically assume something based on reactions but how can anyone tell?? Like they are in shock...it's crazy I'm really glad they have people that do the work and they work hard and look threw absolutely everything.. EVERYTHING to get people that are innocent out of prison and death row. You wouldn't believe how many innocent people get incarcerated for years to life and death row for something they didn't do. This is EXACTLY what “Judge Bev” 🙄 SHOULD have done after they came back without a unanimous verdict. THIS judge _inquired,_ and only _through_ that inquiry did he learn they HAD acquitted him on four of the charges.

where she found is where dozens of people, two of which were my own parents had rode around. two days before her body had been found my parents were less than 20 feet away just riding around and having a good time with friends, riding four wheelers and can-ams. almost 13 years later we still live and go by the Cross where her body was discovered.
It doesn’t make sense that someone other than her husband would sneak into her house and kill her and arrange the phones and car. It doesn’t make sense that she would take a Benadryl and then sneak out and meet with random foul play and have no DNA under her fingernails plus the killer would go back to her house for her secret phone hours later (how would he even know it existed?). They may not be able to prove it, but I think her husband killed her.

No matter that the jury couldn't decide if he was guilty or not .he has to face the real judge eventually .peace and health to the children and her parents .
I believe he is guilty but this case wasn’t mostly circumstantial, it was entirely circumstantial. It could be legitimately argued that circumstantial evidence is taken in its entirety but there was actually another viable suspect in this case causing there to be at least some reasonable doubt. I respect the jury’s decision.
I strongly suspect the husband of having killed his wife but if i was on that jury i would have found him not guilty. The prosecution needed to make a better case than they did. Itself not enough to say, " I'm pretty sure he killed her"
