If you fish like i do, you know the smaller and less stuff the better. I’ve added a photo of just some of my gear so you can see how serious i am about fishing.

You're such an amazing Dad! I would say father, but Dads spend quality time with their kids teaching them all sorts of things in life! I have been a lurker just watching for gardening idea's, but this one? This video made me smile with how you handled the entire thing! Boys will be boys. My three were always up to something. The middle one always kept me hopping even as a young adult. No matter how hard you try, the kids will hurt themselves, or get a heartbreak over something. Daniel you are a great parent. Today was just one of those days.

Time for a video of Dad taking Houston on a trip to Cabela's to get his new fishing pole. Would be a great father/son outing. While you are there, you should get him a much better fire striker set. No sir, you are NOT failing as a parent or your parenting skills. Respect comes from trial and error. Houston now knows to be more careful with a knife. You are giving him the opportunities that many kids will never have. Let him climb trees, and be a kid. AND you are a great parent. Thanks for sharing your family with us.

Such a great video, nothing better than a Father and Son out fishing together. I am sorry Houston that Dad broke your new pole. I know your Daddy will make it right and another new pole will soon be coming to you. These videos always remind me of when me and my son spent time together. My son James had that bright blond hair when he was Houston's age. Its been at least 14 years since he and I went fishing together, he has his own life now, so busy with his business I rarely get to see him these days. But I would give all I have if I could step back into the ole Way Back Machine and travel back to those times when he and I were always together. Daniel Cherish these times, for they pass so fast. Thanks for the insight and I know how we all get busy with life but I would challenge you to make plans with your son and go do something like that again. He may not be there with you on a daily basis but if you guys work together and plan a weekend fishing trip I bet you guys will be able to connect and have a great time.

Bass is my favorite. I love catching them and love eating them more. Poor Houston. Lessons can be painful whether your fishing pole is broken by accident or you cut your finger. But it is the path to maturity. He is an awesome young man with great parents.

Ya know, I've watched a few of your videos and they were alright... but now I'm a fan. This was some great parenting. How can we expect our kids to grow up humble, respectful, and honest if we don't model it for them? Catch and cook baby! Broke my heart to see him cry like that about his new pole. If you can give me the information to where I can get one just like that I would be more than happy to send him a new one. I think the time that you spend with Houston is so awesome Daniel. Prime example of a great dad/father. I have two boys that are no longer small children and I was long and desired for that type of time with him but both of them are Mama's Boys. They never wanted to go out and do those kind of things with me and rather than force them, I never did. So I'm living my father and Son time through you and Houston. It warms my heart.

You didn’t offend me one bit! We bought a regular fishing pole today instead of the telescopic style. We did however see several different options of the telescopic poles at academy sports today.
