@@JONSNOW-jw3zx Looked on the wiki page and I'm guessing Chibnall is laying off on the writing and allowing other people to write episodes which does seem promising, however bit put off at how they are going for a more movie block buster style rather than the normal doctor who style. @fictiontheorizer1991
@fictiontheorizer1991 Год назад
@@someguy7317 Yes! Someone else gets it! For all their talk about the glory of peace, it's the refusal of confrontation, that is the reason for all the deaths here. And not once is that tragic irony ever realized in it's full impact. David Tennant's run was absolutely maddening sometimes.
@johnnotrealname8168
@johnnotrealname8168 Год назад
@@fictiontheorizer1991 This is actually a common feature of the Doctor. For starters he can be very callous about death, he rarely reacts when other people are about to be killed in front of him, except a mate, and in this series he moves on when the doctor, whose blood got sucked, died and Martha took the time to close his eyes. I only noticed it recently, after re-watching Doctor Who so much, since he just would not protest (Or bat an eyelid.) when people are dying in front of him. The Doctor has a definite morality which is heavily opposed to killing humans especially and has saved the Earth numerous times from foreign invasion, one must wonder that being an alien he empathises and wants them to live (For example in the Christmas invasion where he sees them off and later the aliens are killed, he has a hatred for man. This is mirrored well in the 11th Doctor's inauguration as well since the Doctor ensures they stay out.). Ultimately he is not perfect, people need to stop trying to claim him to be, but this is consistent with earlier in his run, he gives someone one chance to change and if this is not taken up then he snaps. He is silent and just wreaks vengeance, like killing a bunch of spider babies (Donna's expression at the time was enough to push through how honestly horrifying the Doctor can be.). He rescues Venice from not vampires but that ending is so @~?£ing sad when he is crying that the species will die. Of course there is the Master where the Doctor would never kill him no matter what. While the Doctor is a hero and good, he is an alien.

@mrglibb

He doesn't kill them at all, that's the scariest part of it. They killed, maimed, destroyed peaceful lives and stole the bodies of innocent people in an attempt to steal the doctor's immortality because they thought it was a gift, so the doctor punished them by showing them that living forever is a curse. He gave them the immortality they wanted, and it ended up possibly being the cruelest thing he could have done.

Martha is hugely underrated. She's by far the most capable of companions in the modern era, and the Doctor treated her really badly. She makes it through so much, and makes the right choice by leaving the Doctor, and joins Torchwood. Thanks for your reviews. I especially like how you point out several motifs (in writing / portrayal / shooting) like something simple as a slanted frame (and much much more). God, I miss the old writers, and now I know even better why that is.

doctor who is the kind of show where you can never know whether or not you'll be getting a good episode, an average episode, or a terrible episode. Episodes like these two are the one's that keep me invested this weird show, no matter how bad it gets, it always comes back around and eventually we'llget gems like these two.

Love this episode is finally getting its time to shine with this video and Full-Fat Videos showcasing its masterclass in writing. It is pretty much perfect. The acting and overall menace of the villains, how David and the writers get u to care about John Smith as a separate entity, the EPIC ending which just makes u understand why armies run away at the very mention of his name. So cool. The only thing that bothers me if Martha being an idiot and letting the family know John Smith is the Doctor, but she did better than other companions would under similar circumstances so MASTERPIECE!

Excellent episode and reviewed fairly. It's too easy to find complaints, and difficult to find things to complement. I can clearly see and hear the narrator has taken a lot of time to examine the episode. I'm sorry this is my first time on your channel so I don't know your name but thanks, I will always watch the episode first though. Subscribed and liked

Thomas Sangster's whole performance and the fact that they loosely made him parallel The Doctor was also incredible. And the veteran at the end, you didn't mention that :( I also haven't watched these episodes for about 5 years but I just remember that shit bc they're a complete masterpiece

On one of the DVD extras, it's noted that when everyone met for the read-though and introduced themselves and the part they'd be playing, David said that he'd be playing "John Smith". Actually, David plays three roles: the Doctor, John Smith, and the Doctor playing John Smith, not for long, but it's subtly different from the John Smith we've come to know. The Doctor really shows his alien-ness when he casually invites Joan to come travelling with him: the man she knew and loved is dead, and yet here he is asking her to try again.

I like to think the 10th doctor's last words "I don't want to go" weren't really his, but John Smith's. The reason this incarnation was so afraid to regenerate, wasting a regeneration on the same face and treating the change like a death when it finally came, was because the human created in this story remained a part of his identity, and the Time Lord regenerating would be the human's death.

Hiccup Hufflepuff I really like this take! Interesting to think about. :) I suppose the change is similar to the Dalek-Human having it’s perspectives changed permanently because of an event.

I wish the trailer maker had some more footage (especially from classic Who) and allowed for you to add your own name(s) to the opening credits. Other than that, great tool. Also, did you read the Timelord Horror stories book? It has a fantastic sequel to this two-parter focussing on Daughter of Mine and what happened to her after her imprisonement.

I still think the way the doctor dealt with them at the end of this was one of my favourite endings in any of the episodes it just goes to show that the doctor isn't someone you mess with he really is dealing with a low of dark things and when that side comes out you better hope you're not on the other side of it

I don't know if anyone else thinks this, but I've always thought that showing John Smith the future he could have was almost an apology and a gift from the Doctor. John Smith gets to see the life he can't live, as does Joan. And as shown earlier, proximity to the watch brings out the Doctor, so I've always wondered if it was The Doctor who reaches out to hold the watch with Joan
