DID IT SUCK? | Torchwood [CHILDREN OF EARTH - DAY 4 REVIEW] 

The one episode that changed the course of Torchwood forever. The fact that this mini series and characters fate was so impactful that a real life shrine was erected in Cardiff Bay just makes the mind boggle

The Ianto shrine is still up in Cardiff Bay Btw, people still visit it as well

My favourite little detail about this episode is right at the end. Usually when Jack comes back to life he screams and gasps back into existence, but after Ianto dies it’s more like he just opens his eyes and lets out a breath. Like he didn’t want to come back this time. I think that really added to the sense of hopelessness.

Honestly, it is astounding how this series excels in so many aspects: the drama, the politics, the horror, the mystery. It just delivered in all aspects. If only we had got more like this from Torchwood

Jack has absolutely been consistently presented as cold, having learnt all the wrong lessons from the man he loves. I think they were going for Shakespearian tragedy.

It’s amazing to think that when Torchwood began, Ianto was not my favourite. The Cyberwoman episode was probably a BIG reason. But just throughout the course, they developed him so well, to where he was one of my favourites! Also, cracking edit at 7:57

Iirc, there was a Doctor Who comic, where its revealed that one of the 12 orphans given to the 456, was a Time Agent. The Smith Doctor deaged a Time Agent who then fled using a broken Vortex Manipulator and ended up at the care house in 1965 on the night, the 11 other children were given to the 456. Meaning that the Smith Doctor was technically responsible for 1 of the 11 children (with Clem not getting taken) being taken.

This behaviour is absolutely in-character to Jack, and is the whole point of him in Children of Earth. He has always been ultruistic (arguably since he likely thought the Doctor chose _"Killer"_ in The Parting of the Ways; since he's not around to see otherwise, nor is he told later, and he wakens to Dalek dust and travels back in time before discovering the true fate of the earth).

Surely jack would’ve been very happy in the 60s, the summer of love, free spirited hippies & beatlemania, he should’ve been at Woodstock having fun, not in Scotland giving children to aliens

Irt Jack becoming head of torchwood 3 I always assumed it happened post the 1999 massacre- there was finally nobody left who knew he was immortal because the old boss killed them all, but I assuemd before that Jack was the necessary but unwanted team member that is better to keep close than far- and for some reason Jack couldn't just run away presumably all members used to be warned about Jack

Ianto’s death still gives me a lump in my throat.

I think the reason he follows orders in Torchwood for so long is it's the only way to stay in the organisation. And Torchwood is his best way of getting to the doctor considering their resources.

I visited Ianto's Shrine in 2013. It felt good being there.

I find it genuinely impressive how RTD is so spot on when it comes to depicting politicians.

4:33 no, the point this series is making is denouncing ultruism. Jack's reasoning is absolutely 1) he doesn't care and 2) 12 kids to save the world is a fair deal. The show punishes Jack for this wrong cruel conservative attitude, asserting that all life has value, and you must find another way. Though they try that at the end of this story, their answer is still the 456's life in exchange for the children's.

One of the best episodes of anything I've ever seen to be honest.
