After the big flood a couple weeks ago, I've been digging around trying to make sense of it all. Some pieces of equipment were beyond help, but others, like this Tandy 1000SX vintage computer, are prime candidates for restoration. I've never done water damage restoration on electronics or computers before, so I'm sure I didn't do it correctly, but I have to start somewhere. Let's see how it ended up!

I've lost some precious equipment and irreplaceable data to lightning strikes in the past. So I can imagine how high your anxiety level was after that flood. It's wonderful to see you turning this into good content and getting your equipment back going! Kudos!

great to see your back, i would love to see the tascam 112 for the next video, i just got a seconded 122 mkii deck as my first one has issues with the motor, hopefully i can get that one fixed a well.

I do wonder if it is worth removing any socketable chips before drying, in case liquid is stuck underneath? (sorry for all the comments, I am commenting as I watch)

Very good point. I thought of that as well. Don't want the chips corroding in their sockets.

you honestly should have pulled every chip that was socketed, and cleaned the legs of the chips and the sockets , then use deoxit before putting chips back in. actually you also could have put the board in the oven at the lowest setting for 30 min to 60 min.. that dries it all out. then deoxit

After I uploaded the video and watched it, it occurred to me as well that the socketed chips should have been removed. Point definitely noted. I've still got a lot of equipment to go through, so everything I'm learning from this project will be applied to the next.

When I saw this comment I was worried about the Tandy’s ultimate fate; I’m glad that the comment was more along the lines of good practices advice than “had you done this it would have actually worked”. Best of luck on the rest of the stuff.
