He actually did. The infinity stones were called gems. They had no specific power, they just came together and do whatever the user (Thanos) wanted. They were created by Death in the comics as well.

All that was written 50 years ago was that they were called soul gems and come from another universe, brought to the main continuity for Thanos, who wants to prove his love for death.

the comics have nothing to do with the films other than pure inspiration. he’s not saying he invented the concept of the infinity stones, but he came up with how they would be portrayed in the MCU, which is significant since the infinity stones set the whole plot into action.

MCU wasn’t planning the Infinity War saga before The Avengers, the Tesseract and Loki’s sceptar were not originally intended to be infinity stones but were retroactively changed into being stones.

Nope, the comic lore is different. Loki Sceptor and Tesseract were retcon to be infinity stones post GOTG, in Age of Ultron scene where Thor gets his visions

I don't think the tesseract was originally meant to also be the space stone. That was retconned later. Same as Loki's scepter being the mind stone. Why would Thanos give Loki an Infinity Stone to go hunt the other Infinity Stone(s)? It's illogical. EDIT: I mean, of all the people to "trust", I think the God of Mischief would be at the bottom of the list.

@@January5131 completely disagree. The space stone when used as a weapon in CA1 shows the target disappear instantly. When red skull held it, a portal opened and took him away. It was clearly a portal of some description. There was no need for CA1 to have a maguffin which had this ability, and therefore there must be an external purpose for it. Marvel studios had incredible foresight from the first iron man. In avengers 2012, the sceptre controlled the target's mind. Clearly it was the mind stone. Recall thanos' servant said, he who put the sceptre in your hand, giving you vast knowledge (I'm paraphrasing). They made a big deal out of it, again for an external purpose. Thanos gave Loki the sceptre because loki wouldn't succeed without it. Loki isn't that powerful. Thanos couldn't send himself because Loki knew the workings of the tesseract as stated in the movie, and Loki knew how the tesseract worked because it was once in Odin's possession.

He did come up with the mcus backstory for the stones and how to explain them. Obviously he didn’t create the infinity stones/gems if your talking comics but he tackled how to bring them to the big screen in about an 1 and a half.

He's not taking credit for the stones. He's saying that he said what they could do in the MCU, basically how they would be used and what powers they had in the MCU

The stones aka gems were already a thing in the comics. The dialogue was what he came up with. Not the whole concept.

The comics were vague on the stones powers and the origins were very different. Death didn’t send them to earth 616 from a different dimension in the MCU version did it?

Actually no. James Gunn wanted the Power Stone to be red like the comics, but because the decision of the Aether being the Reality Stone, he decided to go with purple as red matches with the Aether. That’s how they began to change the colors of the Infinity Stones.

I remember he was not happy about having to write about the stones and having to put thanos in a scene because that would diminish ronan. he's talking about what he came up with but the jewels have been around for way before he was a professional.

You’re adding context to the clip that is completely false. He actually did do exactly what he said. Before Guardians of the Galaxy, the mcu never had any infinity stones. The tesseract wasn’t explicitly stated to be a stone yet. He created the scene in 30 mins that would essentially introduce all the stones to the MCU. He likely didn’t do any research if he only took 30 mins, so he essentially threw together whatever knowledge he remembered from the comics. For all intents and purposes, he wrote the stones into the MCU. He never claimed to invent the stones outside of the context of the movies.
