This video helped recover my biggest 4 butterfly koi when I got done moving to the new house with out this video I probably would have lost most my koi I had them for about 2 years, so I want to thank you for making this, I used the same technique and although it took 6 hours for ours to come back around all of them recovered.
That is one of the best comments ever received. ♥️ Biggest reason for us to make videos is to help others pick up a trick of two and apply when needed. Absolutely heartwarming to hear they were saved.
That was the most overstocked fish bag I have ever seen. I hope you educate the sender on how this almost killed all of the fish. They should have used 2 or 3 boxes for that shipment. Unfortunately, you might still get issues with the ones you saved due to irreparable organ damage that will bite in the days or hours to come. All to save a little in shipping charges...
Same here, that was a first with those numbers. Normally we get 50/box and fine. It’s been a week so far while in qt and everyone appears to have responded well. I did help unload several thousand direct from Japan which were held up at the airport and they were in similar condition but not quite that far and all responded well. I will definitely request smaller amounts per box.
I think the problem is, that we the viewers don't see any frustration or irritation at all in the whole video, not blaming the organization you got this fish from. You don't seem shocked when you see these fish when they come out of the box. That means that to you this seems like a normal situation with all the fish you get. The experience is that small koi are very vulnerable to diseases. I now know why. They get a very poor start. If you treat fish like this .. how can you be surprised when they die later on?
@@richarddenhaag070 this was definitely a first for us. Just because I don’t show stress, doesn’t mean there isn’t grave concern. I’m handle stressful situations and adversity differently than many. Who else would spend almost 2 hours trying to revive small koi? I’m definitely making sure my next batches are so heavily stocked to prevent such a situation, even though the supplier is competent and I’m sure they did what has been done in the past without issue. Overall, it was an unfortunate experience.
This is the facility they came from and when they arrived from Japan. Please be sure to hit subscribe while watching. We’d appreciate it! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-jzCwehWMlfw.html
Thanks for posting this. I've used that method before, and tried to explain it to my mom (for future reference). One of her fish jumped out and she found it while it was still breathing, but she didn't know how to help it. She couldn't quite understand the procedure when I explained it to her. Seeing your video helped, and will leave her better prepared in case of any "jumping out of the pond" issues in the future.
You’re very welcome! I’m glad it was informative. I’m happy to hear that. If she has a jumper, her water parameters may be off a bit or possible parasites and the fish may be stressed. I hope it all works out with her fish and thanks for subscribing!
Definitely close and thought more were out for the count. There is definitely a nice selection in there to create a balanced collection. Thanks on the monetization. It all goes to koi food!!
That's horrible. This is due to the buyer trying to save money on shipping. A lot of breeders won't actually ship that many koi in one bag. It's BAD for the koi. But then again. Shipping water is very expensive. Sometimes u get what u pay for. Unfortunately in this hobby. It pays to pay
Just putting it out there, it had absolutely nothing to due with me attempting to save a few dollars and I would never risk an entire shipment to do so. That’s not how I operate.
Thank you. Definitely the last thing you want to see when the last flap of the box opens. Let’s just say, we were a little surprised! Thanks for stopping by!
I have some questions about salt. What do you do when the salt dissolved in the pond? Do you just let it be or change the water? Also can you use the salt you guys used in the video to quarantine fish? I just thought it looked quite thick idk. How long should I quarantine my fish for? Maybe depending on how sick the fish is?
We just let salt dissolve to a desired percentage and let it be for a period of time depending on how it’s used. If we do water changes, we add salt to the new water to maintain salinity in qt. When a fish is sick, we typically do 3 weeks minimum and monitor the progress of the fish. The salt we use is pure salt used in water softeners and is basically the same as “pond salt” without the fancy name or price tag.
@@CapeFearKoi what salinity percentage do you recommend keeping in the the pond compared to when quarantining sick fish? And do salt and plants go together?
I personally don’t like to salt full time since it is an irritant to koi. I only use salt as a medication and set it between .3-.5 but can go as high as .6 if it’s serious. .3 typically knocks out what you need to be taken care of, but over the years disease has become more salt tolerant and more difficult to combat. Some plants are more salt tolerant than others and you can research which ones take it better. Sometimes you may have to remove plants if salting to medicate.
New subscriber here from the Philippines...the shipment was not that good because it's too crowded ..but thanks God you people are patient and skilled in reviving the fishes❤️
We definitely got lucky! It could have been much worse. Hello to the Philippines 🇵🇭 and thanks for subscribing!! We really appreciate it and thanks for stopping by to say hi.
My heart sank when you pulled out the bag! Im soo glad you could save soo many, you can really see in the video how much you care ❤ where are you located? Im in NC too!
Awesome. Pulled you away from the beach??Too bad we missed each other here! There are some beautiful koi in Charlotte. Sometimes I visit and check out some ponds there and got a beautiful Isa Showa there last year. Keep an eye out and hopefully I will be giving Charlotte a shout sooner than later!
What was that about Pressure Washing? ? Man do I need my old Mansion in Landfall, Wilmington NC pressure washed inside and out and im on a budget of $8800 for the month, whats that number?? did you say Hot Line pressure washing ?
I simply used fresh water and air stones to oxygenate the water as much as possible. I also added some ammonia binder to make the water less toxic. Thanks for asking!
New Fish Friday with the Master himself and my friend Koi Captain Norm! He handles all his fish with tender hands now, I’ve been there and seen him LIVE! You want to learn the right way, tap into all these great training videos from Koi Captain Norm and Cape Fear Koi!
We’re very happy to know you’re finding the videos entertaining and equally informative!! Always happy to answer any questions regarding your fish or pond!
Wish I knew exactly why it happened but I know it was unfortunate and definitely unintentional. He is a man of honor and took care of the ones that didn’t make it. That’s the most I can ask for.
It did look full. I know he has shipped these quantities before, so I’m not sure if it was a combination of numbers and if there were handled roughly or placed in a hot area which also contributed to lack of oxygen.
My first thought was that the seller needs to be reported..and then I thought that his sole intention was saving a lot on shipping costs. You saying that you have had fish from this seller before makes me wonder whether some newbie did the packing. What ever the reason I hope you spoke to the seller and that he at least was sorry. Well done on saving the majority.
Seller is a top notch operation, so that’s why it was a bit of a head scratcher. Seller also quickly refunded for the 3 fish and I wasn’t even going to ask. I know he always puts all his efforts into ensuring clean and healthy fish. He’s very particular at his operation, so that’s why I wasn’t upset. I think it was just one of those random times. I’m definitely glad it wasn’t worse.
@@CapeFearKoi Im pleased he sorted that out. Does he always send that many fish in such cramped conditions..and if not ..did he give an explanation for why it happened.
Normally it’s a fewer less, but I know he sends thousands a year and only suspect he wouldn’t have done so if there were past problems. May change a few things when ordering next.
You were extremely lucky to have only lost 3, the bag didn’t even look like it had enough oxygen in it! The idiot who packed and sent those fish to you needs a good kicking! I hope you see he gets one!
Definitely lucky on this shipment. I have had 4 shipments from them and never had any issues. I know he takes extreme care of his stocks, so this was definitely out of the ordinary. Shipper is a very good person and I consider him a friend, so I know he would never knowingly do something to compromise them and he ships thousands a year. Hopefully it was a one time situation. I do appreciate your fire for the fish though!!! 😃
That was a horrible shipping arrangement. Way too many fish in a small bag with no room to move and very little water. You did good though reviving them.
To be fair: if you open a box that is so small for so many fish and almost all of them are almost dead upside down. What happens in your head to make you believe that you are not complicit in the torture of animals? Is that where the name comes from? Fish .. you are now entering Cape Fear territory?
i try and dissolve salt at least a day before, that way the whole pond is balanced and fish recover quicker. that is very bad advertising for the wholesaler. i would never buy from them, that was irresponsible.
I typically have it dissolved sooner but the package arrived sooner than expected and after opening, I felt I couldn’t leave them in a small environment like that too long. It was a tough call. This is my 4th shipment this year and first experience like this. The ones that didn’t make were refunded and he was very intent to make sure everything I’m was ok. He’s a good person and dealer and feel it was just one of those times. I know he ships thousands a year and felt they would have been ok. It was definitely an unfortunate situation overall.
@@CapeFearKoi it helps osmoregulation in stressed kois so the other ones could have made it. unfortunately koi keeping lessons are learned the hard way. ONE LOVE.
Technically yes, toxic. I was mostly referring to their overall movements. Similar to my earlier years when with friends at the bar. Definitely may have been a few too many. I know he ships thousands a year and these were less than 24 hours in the bag. First time seeing them arrive like this. I also wonder how they were handled.
As others have said, way too many fish for one bag! I would never buy from that supplier again! Who knows what lasting effects will be suffered. I for one would be reluctant to purchase any of those fish. Also, if that little care was provided in shipment I have to wonder what their prior care was. Good for you that you saved any! Bravo to you!
@@ghggp1 thanks! It definitely could have been worse. I have been to the facility they came from and I know he takes many precautions for optimal health/cross contamination and so on. I couldn’t tell you if he ships this many at once often, but my other orders are typically less per box. I helped unload these several months prior directly from Japan and the boxes(7,400 koi) were full and lasted 64 hours without one dying. Here’s the video to it: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-jzCwehWMlfw.html The one bag I got was less than 24 hours, so that’s one reason it seemed odd it was so severe. We will definitely order less per box next time just to be sure.
The outfit I got it from does a great deal of care, so it baffles me it happened. Of all the shipments I’ve received from them, that was the only one I’ve seen in those conditions. Overall it’s definitely a shame it happened though.
Whomever shipped you those koi was clearly incompetent and I wouldn't buy from them again. That was a minimum of two boxes worth of koi, and would normally ship as three boxes.
i would not put that many neon tetras in that bag ,pure greed on behalf of the sender and misery for living creatures, not bloody right that is bang outa order,
This video is rediculous. U the buyer gets to choose how many koi go in each bag. That's what judges the cost u pay in shipping. This is on you. Not a shipping issue. You ordered wayyyyy yo many fish for 1 box. In order to save money. I'm surprised the breader even allowed that. Just be honest with people. And please don't do that again. That was beyond Cruel.
Sorry my friend, but that’s completely inaccurate. It was never discussed how many he was shipping per box. He bills me after everything is completed and normally come in 2 boxes when I do larger orders. Any dealer in their right mind would not listen to the customer of they wanted to cram more fish just to save money. Neither was the case in this instance but the end result was definitely unfortunate.
@@CapeFearKoi If that's True. U NEED a NEW Dealer. And that's the job of the Dealer. To listen to the customer. If I wanted I could have 6 16" koi shipped in 1 gallon bag. Obviously he is going to disagree. But in the end. It's MY decision as it was yours. We are the Consumer. After we pay. That fish is OUR property. No need to save face. Anyone that has has koi shipped from Japan agrees and knows exactly what the protocol is.
@@brianemery8945 nobody is trying to save face here. The dealer ships tens of thousands of fish and this is probably my 4-5th shipment from them. They are experienced in shipping and I’ve never heard anyone else having this issue from them shipping. Typically when I get larger numbers in the order, I get them in 2 boxes and I suspected it would have been the same with this one. It had nothing to do with trying to save in shipping, so no need to jump to conclusions. I pay actual shipping and no markup from his end. We have a good relationship like that. There’s no way I would jeopardize an entire shipment just to save a few dollars. We never discuss how many boxes will be shipped, just the number of fish and it’s left to them to split accordingly and then I’m billed once fish arrive. Fish were in the bag less than 24 hours and may be the reason a few more went in. I honestly don’t know why it all went down like that and everything else is just speculation because I truly don’t have all the answers, but do know they corrected the issue from the ones which were lost.
It’s definitely unfortunate it happened, but I will say that it was corrected as soon as they found out and refunded any loss. I’ve had about 8 orders through them and never had something like that happen previously or from others who had orders from them. I think it was a 1 time mishap.
