My favorite ops from the style perspective are Lesion (very realistic, there's a action figure of a SDU which looks a lot like him), Lion, Mozzie and Ace. Each with a unique characterization and personality, without being a generic special forces op, like people on Reddit want in the game, like another Blackbeard (in appearance).

I'm glad to hear anyone talk about how 'suspension of disbelief' ruining Iana is. We went from emp and heart sensors to photo realistic perfectly controlled moon lady projections. A big oof. That said, let's not bring up the zombies thing.

finally someone speaks on this subject. i really wished it stuck to the idea that they were real counter terrorists while keeping some liberty to make the game fun.

I think my biggest gripes were with how they handled the bios, and Six. The bios were as you said, actual government files and I liked that feeling. It was when Vigil and Dokkaebi were added when they lost me on that. Even if the story is good like Lion's, it shouldn't read like a Deviant Art character bio. After that, it was the swapping out of Six. Old Six was perfect. She was staunch, professional, but obviously had a care and passion for Team Rainbow and their mission. Suddenly replacing her with a skinny hipster guy who doesn't keep knives in his house because his wife doesn't like it? He's the one leading an international counter-terror unit? Despite this I like where the newly updated bios are going. They still have the general overview, a general psych evaluation, and then an in-depth analysis by Harry, where he can explore their personal struggles, relationships and concerns. In my head I see him less as Six and more of Rainbow's personal counselor, he's their shrink. I've accepted R6 Siege isn't the realistic somewhat arcadey shooter it started out as, but I don't think it has to completely throw away that old tone either.

It should have stuck to the manga tbh, everything fell off in the Outbreak Arc for me

10:22 well ubisoft is getting rid of the whole "real factions" aspect it seems. nighthaven is some made up PMC. iana is from some made up european space junkies, and oryx is put down as unaffiliated (even though hes like second in command of fortress or something). also oryx disappearing for 15 years off all records and coming back ripped as fuck means hes pretty much bane.

I think it's great that someone else appreciates Maverick's story as much as I do.

I think the characters like Iana and Amaru would still be involved in the training simulations (multiplayer) but wouldn't be involved in the actual swat situations since Iana would probably be working in the rainbow R&D and Amaru would probably be working intelligence but would still need a degree of weapons training since circumstances can always arise where they are needed or need to defend themselves. The best analogy I could come up with this is if in extraction the R&D department on the ship they are all on gets attacked by zombies and they are gonna need as many people to be prepared for that situation.

The outbreak arc was obviously unrealistic but it still felt in keeping with the themes of the game at that time because of how gritty and grounded it managed to be

Tbh, I thought Maverick’s backstory was a Iron Man reference. Also, this is probably my favorite video you’ve made.

The problem with “lore” in Siege (and similarly, Overwatch) is that none of it matters when all the “good guys” do is fight each other. So the game is what? One big never-ending training exercise? The “lore” is so divorced from the fundamental gameplay as to render it irrelevant.

There is a difference between aesthetic realism vs realistic gameplay R6S was aesthetically realistic, but now that was thrown out the windom and the game is just a mockery of real life warfare And not in the bf4 fun way either

Lions uniform is similar to what we have worn in Biosafety Labs. Minus the over suit but he does have taped wrists probably two gloves under it along with more than one layer of clothing and lastly a fully covered respirating mask that shields eyes, nose and mouth from airborne pathogens. Thats actually pretty normal for bio safety soldier uniforms.

I’ve noticed that the new ops consistently keep getting less and less military or law enforcement-esque. personally i really dig realistic and tactical looks vs whatever the hell the new ops have

I think people forget that like... Rainbow 6 is a outfit that needs alot of different slots Filled. This ranges from the actual strike team to maintenance to HR to Psych reviews to Tech development. From what I can tell in their bios, Alot of them don't actually go into the field as you much as you think they would. Pulse and Ash go into the field. Seems pretty obvious. but Castle doesn't really go into the field. He's one of rainbow six's Shrink. Doc is pretty straight forward what his role is. Amaru is for when they capture artwork, artifacts from terrorist cells trying to sell them. Jager and his band are the Helicopter flight crew. Could they breach and clear? Yes. Do they? Probably not. They are too busy flying around as a mobile transport. Echo, Dokka, Mute, Mira, Twitch, Thermite etc are on the Research and Development team. Valkyrie, Ela and etc gather intelligence on an variety of targets. Based upon the latest research of contact lenses, Yana's gadget is just somewhat futuristic but it's getting there. Google and DARPA has gotten pretty close to it in the rough design. Including auto-correcting what Gregor pointed out as weaknesses in being albino. Her drones/hologram activation are similar to a presentation from the early 2010's for coordination of flying drones. And the holograms are just expanding upon Alibi's existing one. However that doesn't mean just because the operators don't go into the field often you want to invade the headquarters while Ash and her strike team are away. You'll still get mowed down.

I love how geographically diverse the Rainbow lineup is but when an operator isn’t attached to a real-life CTU it’s hard for me to take interest in them... they no longer feel like trained professionals and distance them from the Real parts of the game and lore that I love.

My favorite arc from the anime Rainbow 6: Siege, is the cowboy arc. Made no sense. And it’s just filler, but that’s alright because I get to see an Italian man with a cowboy hat.

As an overwatch player, the game that is an anime, y’all were slow getting your space scientist onto the battlefield. Sigma, an clinically insane man who like gravity came in a year ago to fight crime

But yeah, coalitions are cool, coolest guy I met while overseas was a coalition lieutenant, idk what country, didnt care, probably fresh out of officer school, gave him a ride in some of our trucks and tanks, was super cool throughout the demonstration

5:26 the thing is, im a huge fan of sci-fi more even than modern era stuff, but what rainbow had before felt like a top notch realistic art style and now and now it just feels like a very meh near future game. for example yägers gadjet, yeah hes trained to use guns and stuff but hes also an amazing engineer and managed to make an already existing system way smaller giving it a whole new use, thats just the right amount of high tech and hes considered a big brain boio for making that he even brags about it in his operator vid, now introduce yana who doesnt even seem to be proud that she made a fucking moving independent hologram with cameras. the cool thing about science fiction is that sometimes the writters give alot of detail to how humanity has progressed technologically, its kind of the more ''realistic'' counterpart to fantasy, like when you want all the possiblities that fantasy brings but you want it velibable. now setting a game in the present and making all these futuristic stuff just ''the product of privileged minds'' is just the worst from every world, it has the unvelibability of fantasy, makes other more velibable operators look dumb in comparison and is just a poor example of scfi. in conclusion IN MY OPINION its not about the time its set in its about how thoghtfull the justification for everything is, and in a modern setting things that futuristic cant be put in without forcing the suspension of disbelief real hard

All of my irl friends who got me into the game have left. All of the friends I’ve made in the first two years of playing this game have left. The tactical realism this game released with is gone. This game was so unique and special for such a long time. Then sometime after operation health this game changed its identity from a tactically realistic swat game to an anime loving esport focused game. This game has abandoned its foundation and its a game without an identity. And the identity it’s forming is stupid. I’ll be getting insurgency sandstorm when it comes to console and never looking back.

Y'know who I miss from the old eras of Rainbow Six? SIX. Like old Six. Angela Bassett Six. That kind of Amanda Waller role that world orgs had in spades. She was there, but you didn't really have to know she was there. Not like Harry, who is kinda proclaimed in the current era, but like Old Six - there, but not physically.
