I hear you on that. I was never expecting ride quality from a sporty subaru anyway. But my daily driver is a 21 sti, which seems to have far better ride quality than my previous car, a 2017 wrx. And definitely better ride quality than a 2016 sti that i had the chance to drive. That was a great car as well, but the ride was very harsh and bouncy even with no suspension modification. I wouldn't call it softer, but right away the suspension seemed better dampened in the newer sti.

I agree. my 2015 Sti was very different ride quality compared to my 2018 out of the box. thicker glass, bigger rims and tires, and some minor suspension tweaks from factory made a huge difference. I recently went with hks coilovers and the ride quality and performance improved even more drastically.

@@ianholmquist8492 Thanks man. I went with the hipermax s that came out recently, super happy with them. The only drawback as far I know that I didn’t realize is .. if and when they need to be rebuilt, they have to be sent back to hks in japan. Keep an eye out on JDMuscle, I snagged a deal off there for the set.

I fell in love with the wrx sti when it first came stateside in 2004. I was used to seeing mustangs , camaros, gtos and beefed out hondas and nissans duking it out on the street. Then along comes the subie, a bright blue car with gold wheels, a giant spoiler, and a boxer rumble that was simply majestic. Not to mention it was smoking everything in sight. Yes a lot has changed in the auto world with technological advancements. But the Subie community is larger than ever, and the aftermarket support for them is downright exceptional. And I agree, the imperfections are there in stock form which makes it a fantastic platform to modify and perfect with the right parts and tuner,. These are potent machines for the street/track in the right hands. Sadly many of them have been misused, wrecked and neglected over time. Which makes the late model versions even more desirable and less attainable. Sorry for the long comment, I'm just a diehard Subie guy too Lol

Hey Johnny, I appreciate the comment. I’ve driven various other AWD turbo cars, Golf R’s, Evo’s, and even some Audi’s, but despite some of those cars being faster, handling better, or overall better performing, whenever I get back into a subie it feels like home. There’s so much character in a WRX STI, its inexplainable! It’s kinda a thing that latches on when you drive one every day. The community is like no other and I’m proud to be a die-hard subie fan as well. Stay tuned!!

Ive had my 2020 STI for a few days. The more I learn about it the more I fall in love with it, and I've already been obsessed! Im really glad it has the improved engine from the STI S209. I dont plan on building mine, its going to be a daily driver for a very long time. But that gave me a little peace of mind lol

Hey Bro. I got a VB WRX last month (don't hate me and my plastic cladding lol). I feel the same as you, since its my one and only car, I don't want to throw power mods at it if I don't have a fat enough wallet to pay for a new engine. These cars can last forever in stock form with good maintenance. If I really wanted to go faster I wouldn't be buying a subaru tbh, I bought the WRX because they are too damn fun to drive! Congrats on your car!

I'd say it started with the 2018 year with the facelift, flashing neon green big 6 piston brakes and changes to the differential onwards to 2021. The signs were all over the place. South Africa and Europe got a "final edition" 2018 WRX STI before effectively announcing the WRX STI will never be sold in those continents. We were all oblivious that it meant the WRX STI will be discontinued as a whole everywhere.

I really loved my 2017 WRX. I purchased my low mileage 2020 STI last January 2022. A great video brother. The STI is a pure mechanical driving experience and a delight 😊. It's my daily driver. ✨️. Subies forever.

Nice video! Still madly in love with my 21 sti. Just one thing i wanted to point out about the video. It's a common misconception about the dccd control. It doesn't change the torque split front/rear whatsoever. What it does is increase or decrease how quickly the front or rear limited slip diff will engage when a wheel slips. Basically, it changes how the car feels at the limit of grip. Which is why it doesn't have a very noticeable effect if you change the dccd when just driving around town on dry roads.

Glad I have my 2016 STI. I used to have a 02 S2000 but I ended up selling it. I regret it to this day. I'm going to keep my STI.

I have a 2002 Bugeye wagon, 2004 STi and a 2019 STi. Had a 2007 Forester XT and a 2012 STi. So far I like the 19 the most. The 2004 is a close second. I bought that car because they are getting rare. It's Java Black Pearl. Which is rare by itself. I found one low mileage with no rust. It is pretty modify but I'm going to try to clean it up and make it OEM plus. I personally don't really have any issues with these cars. Depending on what symptoms you experience it's good to start doing supporting mods. A lot of RU-vid channels tell you right off the bat and you should get AOS. In my experiences I don't have to run a AOS as long as I'm running the right oil. I will say the earlier generation cars that I've had, have more issues with oil consumption. There is no way around that because these are turbo cars. Subaru or not you are going to consume oil in some way or another. I run Motul 5w40 in my 2019. I have been running Schaeffer's 5w40 and both of mine earlier generation cars. My 2004 has a radium AOS. That car needed it. I barely consume oil in any of my cars. I also do my oil changes every 3000 miles regardless of what the oil manufacturer says.

I was trying really hard to score a 2019 + STI but every one I found was between mid-to-upper $30s to low $50s. Either way, I managed to score a very nice 2017 STI within the mid-20s; bone stock, never modified. I love her.

More power! I’ve had a 17 wrx a 19,20, amd now a 21 Sti. I’ve gotten a new Sti every year and have always came out ahead as they hold there value pretty well. My only complaint is they are pretty slow cars but extremely fun to drive.

The 2019+ models are definitely the best factory STI overall. I've owned and driven all of them over the years. The GD's are probably the most fun overall but not the best overall vehicle. My 2021 stock STI pulled multiple car lengths on a Stage 1 OTS 2018 STI. Improved factory tune and RA engine is definitely putting down considerably more power than pre 2019.

I started out with a 2015 STI I got new, I paid it off and traded it in for the 2020 STI for all the same reasons you listed in the vid but as I had gotton older I started to drift towards something more mature and refined but i wanted something similar to the STI i.e unique exhaust note, sporty compact sedan, has awd, turbo, etc. So I looked at the TLX Type S, test drove it, didnt have that performance feeling i wanted plus it was way too big. Then i looked at the Genesis, very nice but lacked the sport sedan feeling i wanted that the STI had, was more luxery than anything. Next i looked at the AMG CLA 45, liked it a lot but they lose their value and i wanted something that would holds its value like the STI does. I was at BMW looking at a 2018 F80 M3, omg i fell in love with that car, unbelievable machine it was! But no awd and they wanted an additional $9k for an extended warranty and i was like yeah no, plus i did some research and founs out the crank hub on their engines fail pretty frequently. So across the street was Audi, i drove over there after I was at BMW and they had a 2020 Nardo Gray RS3 in the show room, caught my eye instantly. Took it for a test drive and i literally felt like i was in an STI but on steriods, i felt right at home with it and ended up buying it. The 5cyl is very responsive, the exhaust note is just as unique as the STI. The Audi Quattro awd system is just as good if not better than subarus awd system coupled with the STI differentials, it's literally what subaru should have done for the STI if they hadn't discontinued it.

rs3 is way faster and more comfortable for daily but sti is more fun.. by a lot... rs3 is almost too fast and comfy ur always wanting to break speed limit

In AUS, we got the Hyper Blue Edition, Kuro Edition and the Final Edition. The problem is that in 2021 when the Final Edition was released at 150 specs, they were all sold out from the dealer. Obviously all the insiders got there hands on them 1st then within a few days there were on the market for double the price.

@@carswithsepp I got a 2019 WRX back in 2019. I was planning to upgrade in 2021 but the prices shot through the roof. It was in the realm of the RS3, AMG 45s and Supra/ Nissan Z.

The prices for 2021 wrx sti here in New Zealand are outrageous ... For a low km one you could buy a brand new Gr Corolla or maybe even Supra and as we are a small country supply and demand have driven the prices through the roof ... Many people were hoping for the 400hp possible 2 door sti like the concept car then Subaru pulled the rug on everyone and said yeah nah we just gonna make the wrx which is a bit meh

Glad I got my 2020 STi. I was looking for a GR86 to payoff and later use as a downpayment for a Supra, but I didn't want to pay crazy markup and found a STI. now I can't part with my STI because it will be a collector's car.

I was going to buy a 2022 STI originally. I'm one of the only people that actually liked the plastic cladding.... Ended up getting a 22 Kia Stinger GT instead.
