@@CyborgArmGunyou do know what an epilogue is right? It's a continuation of a story that has ended meaning it's the continuation of the END of the indigo disk
It's solid enough in my opinion there are a few things that I don't like like how grindy the game BBQ quests can be but I enjoyed it well worth the $35
Ever since Gold/Silver, there hasn't been a Main Series game where the player could revisit an old region. (While technically we're not revisiting all of Unova, my point still stands.)
When I saw Kieran having Incineroar in his team, my mind went "OH SH!T, He's packing heat." My one nitpick towards Kieran's story is that a _certain Pokémon_ was left out that may or may not (depending on S/V epilogue) made him evil.
@@wikiuser92 but I do I like shiny hunting and I think it sucks that they're shiny locked especially since by now most old players have every non shiny legendary and it isn't exciting getting to catch another legendary that probably has worse stats than the one I caught in gen 4 shiny hunting is fun and them making it less fun isn't really good for the longevity of the game
I think one person said it best, SV feels like the beta release of the best Pokémon game ever. It’s an amazing game that lacks the polish needed to shine, ideas are good, but under-explored, and it just needs a tiny bit more.
@@Endershock1678I feel like GF needs to take the time to actually master certain design elements, even if that has to be over a few games, before letting ambition drag them into expanding the games without having a solid grasp on what they hadn’t quite gotten the hang of yet. This has been an issue since Pokémon’s jump to 3D, in my opinion. They hadn’t even quite gotten the hang of smaller, open wild areas, between Sw/Sh and Legends:Arceus before they tried to make a game that was one giant open world.
The post credits scene is a literal paradox. During the professors experiment they end up at the Crystal pool and you trade books, which gives them inspiration to explore area 0, despite the briar’s book being inspired by them. You also name Koraidon/miraidon through a paradox. It’s confusing for sure and it doesn’t necessarily answer many questions but it’s still cool. There’s a book in the underdepths that talks about it more
And that’s kinda the point of the scene It is so questionable and hard to understand that the scene did what it’s meant to be A huge confusion A paradox of understanding
Admittedly it also has several details mentioned that show alternate time lines are involved (the professor of our timeline did get a white book but never gave up the Scarlet/Violet Book, and Arven wasn't even quite born yet when the professor of our timeline summoned the first Miraidon/Koraidon).
I’m surprised anyone could misunderstand such a blatant explanation myself. You as the mc meeting the professor there are the cause of the entire game and its PARADOX. The thing the entire game is about. How did he miss this? Even the Pokémon, they’re called Paradox Pokémon because they are the result of a paradox.
@@Usagizaka46 But from the details that Ryodraco mentioned, the professor we find at the lake can’t be from the same timeline as ours. Our actions helping a professor from a different universe shouldn’t have any effect on the events of our own timeline. Edit: And it’s *still* not explained how Heath saw Paradox Pokemon with different physical features before a time machine even existed to bring them to Area Zero.
@@Usagizaka46unless we give back the professor their copy of the book the timeline of the game is broken Arven won’t have the book which belongs to his parent
Both Legends Arceus and Scarlet & Violet have every single legendary in them shiny locked. That gives me the feeling that this is going to be the standard from now on.
@@MapleLunii and that’s one of the few things that pretty much every Pokémon fan agrees with; it’s a universally hated thing, and yet Game Freak is doubling down on it now. It makes no sense.
This is the 5th game where catching all the old legendaries is a selling point (and not even all of them like USUM and SwSh. The XYZ trio and the Tapus are missing). I just don’t feel like wasting my time on that.
Agree to disagree. Legendary hunting is one of my favorite aspects of a Pokémon game, and it was insulting that without dlc, you only got 2 to hunt in Sword Shield!!!!!
I could not disagree more about the crown tundra offering more substantial content. I think all the guests you can invite to the club room and all the interactions you can unlock are awesome and the final boss of that is also really cool. I get that grinding bp to invite coaches isn’t exactly fun but in my opinion neither is doing dynamax adventures. Those offer no story and are basically impossible to do by yourself. Maybe this is just me and the indigo disk appeals to me because I prioritize the characters, story and lore a little more than sheer content. I do agree that the terapagos story could’ve been done much better and was a bit underwhelming but the kieran stuff made up for that imo.
To explain the post credits scene with the professor, I believe it alludes to the fact that YOU'RE the reason they discovered how to summon Paradox Pokémon and are also the reason they died, by trading your book with theirs, they were able to write their own book and if you go down and read their writings at the very bottom of area zero, even before you do the scene, it makes reference to a young trainer handing them a white book.
As a HUGE Unova fan, I loved it. The Terapagos section was carried by Kieran, as well as the BB Leauge story. I’m very satisfied, but it had so much potential to be something better.
So you didn't pay attention to what the professor said, they explained the paradox Pokemon and where they came from. Also if you read the professors notebook in the new part of Area 0, they state that they met with an interesting person and that person gave them a white book, that was referencing that cutscenes
I agree that the Indigo Disk was the better dlc compared to Crown Tundra in the plot department at the very least. But the fact that ALL the legendary Pokémon are shiny locked is dumb. The very idea of shiny locking is so asinine but that is a completely different conversation lol. And I also agree that the whole Terapogos plot line was tacked on haphazardly, like they basically said “oh by the way, we have to go to area zero” after Area Zero not being brought up a single time in neither the indigo disk nor the Teal mask? Don’t get me wrong, I love Terapogos and the lore and implications behind it is certainly interesting, but I just wished it was handled better lol. Also my favorite characters from the dlc are definitely Kieran, Drayton and Carmine, Drayton especially. Drayton had me laughing almost every time I saw him and he’s just a really fun character all around. I think it’d be cool to maybe see him take over the Opelucid City gym for Drayden in Black 3 and White 3 should we get them lol Edit: minor spelling errors 😭💀🫠
To be fair this dlc did the one thing for years GF should of fixed... MAKE BLASTOISE USE IS CANNONS FINALLY no more forehead hydro pump! And it swims like it has jet thrusters. Also so now we got a alt timeline proffesor that will certainly make those timeline theories more confusing now.😅
They’re not an alternate timeline professor, they would appear to be the same professor, they seemed to have been ripped right out of the past, the only thing I can think of that would break things timeline wise is the fact that the professor gives you their respective book, which doesn’t make sense as that book is the key to the machine, so without it the machine won’t function in the first place, this could only be resolved in story if the book gets sent back to the past in the epilogue. If people already know about the story of the epilogue please no spoilers.
@@snakemaster254well briar had the original book. The book we used was just a published copy anyway. There's more than one of those books so it's unclear if any of the other books could be used or not. There's a scarlet/Violet book in the school. So there doesn't seem to be anything special about the particular book that we used. Maybe they set it to where you just insert a book of that title and it works.
@@derekosgood3230 in the base game I believe it was very specifically the professors copy of the book that was used as the key, but you are right that they may have just made a new copy.
@@sunnyisabunny1479 the book itself is probably the source of the whole paradox. Maybe the epilogue will have us return the book to the past to resume the paradox, especially if we trade the book back because if the white book already exists in the past then where is it in the past, except for back in the future where it was written. After all if the boom stayed in the past, it would probably have been left somewhere where by the professor, which would mean the same boom exists before it’s written which while not terribly weird, would make it remaining undiscovered even weirder.
Some of the most fun I’ve had playing Pokémon, but it sucks that it was attached to a still barely functioning base game. Also I hate that the big “source of the power” legendary appeared at the VERY end, as opposed to being part of a vast chunk of the story like Ogerpon. The Unova love was blessed though!
Yeah, for calling the the whole two-part DLC "The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero" we sure got not really much from the actual hidden treasure of area zero.
Uh, dude? Did you forget all about the stuff involving the professor's time machine? Y'know, the thing that was a big part of the base game's finale? Wasn't that the explanation for why Paradox Pokémon were there in the first place? I figured the stuff with the professor showing up wasn't that weird/hard to figure out. The time machine used terastal energy and somehow, Terapagos interacting to the crystal pool briefly brought them from the past to the present. Not the clearest thing, admittedly, but also not that hard to figure out. As for me, I'm always glad when the games give you the option to catch past starters. I love catching them in stuff besides the standard Poké Ball.
But what about Heath? How did he see Paradox Pokémon on his expedition while Terapogos was asleep and the time machine didn’t exist? Where did they come from? And why do we have yet ANOTHER legendary with time powers? Dialga is the god of time, and Celebi is a time traveler… but why and how does this shiny turtle that makes energy crystals pull the professor forward in time?
Carmine should have faced some consequences for what she did, since her lying to Kieran is what caused all the problems. The fact that she didn't face any consequences goes completely against the entire theme of the Scarlet and Violet story.
She didn't do anything wrong, and it's not like the lie was really bad as well. She didn't tell him so he didn't run off into the night after ogerpon, afterwards she gave the mask to her grandfather and he told her not to tell Kieran.
@@paulbunions8580 Her and her grandfather's lie put the entire village in danger. Keep in mind they didn't just deceive Kieran, they deceived the entire village. The three would never have been released if she had just been honest with him (he wouldn't have punched the MacGuffin if he didn't find out that he had been lied too). SHE and her grandfather were directly responsible for all of this. People were drummed out of the Paldea Academy for less. This is why she needed to face consequences, and so did her grandfather. At least a reprimand. And the fact that they didn't, when the former staff of the academy faced very severe consequences for turning a blind eye to the bullying in Paldea is what makes this go against the theme of Scarlet and Violet (or at the very least, made it seem like whoever wrote this didn't play the main game or failed to grasp the point of the story). Not to mention, this is the worst lesson to give to kids, that it's acceptable to lie to your family and the authorities if you think the truth won't get you a favorable response, and that you won't face consequences for it.
This DLC did feel like a promotion for Unova remakes rather than a major improvement on the Scarlet and Violet games, and don't get me started on the frame rate in some areas of the terarium as it is insufferable in some areas.
The crystal pool scene literally explains everything. It's a paradox. Also if you go back to area zero and read sada/turo's journals you get some more information (won't spoil so you can discover it for yourself) about your meeting.
I personally enjoyed Indigo Disk a lot. Throughout my time playing the DLC, I sunk 15 hours into the Indigo Disk DLC alone. From the plot with Kieran to the most challenging elite 4 the franchise has ever seen, Indigo Disk definitely boosted my perception of Scarlet and Violet as a game. Also the fact that all the battles are all double battles just made me feel like this was "VGC: The DLC" if you get what I mean. The only real disappointment I had with Indigo Disk was how they handled the legendaries. Not only are there fewer legendaries to find in Indigo Disk than there were in Dynamax Adventures (25 in Indigo Disk vs. 47 in Crown Tundra), not only are half of them version-exclusive, but you can't even shiny hunt them which is definitely going to reduce how many hours players can and will spend on this otherwise excellent DLC.
1. Drayton calling the character “Champ in the making” took me back in time 2 decades. 2. Check on top of the terrarium disco ball. It’s worth your while.
My problems with the Switch Pokémon games are always the lack of Puzzle. I adored Scarlet and Violet, however, besides the graphic issue, they don't have puzzles in the games anymore. I want more caves, more puzzles and more post game that are not a DLC. Those things are what I love about Pokémon since I was a kid and nowadays the games are just straight foward ("boring" would be better here). SV have the one of the best stories between the Pokémon games and I am happy to have so many things to do with the DLCs, but c'mon, where are those things that made Pokémon what they really are? Where is the exploring the world, the culture, the mythology and other stuff, y'know?
I think Sada/Turo's appearance introduced a temporal causality loop. Where you do soemthing when time traveling to the past to 100% guarantee the actions to going into the past again in a series of steps. Because the journal entries in the underdepths refer to Briar's new book, in which has not published yet, but you do however give the professor the copy, and the motivation to pursue the project.
I think you're underselling the value of old pokemon being catchable. Every Pokemon game will be someone's first, for many kids this is the first time a lot of the starters are appearing in a game. Also as someone who has been here from the beginning, it's a lot of time, money, and effort to transfer from old games all the way up to gen 9. It's nice to just be able to catch my favorite starters again without having to watch the transfer process multiple times.
Gonna talk about the spoiler part around the 8th min mark but: Sada/Turo were transported from a point in time before they built the AI, the time machine and obtained Koraidon/Miraidon as well as the second one that killed them. You can tell because they call the ride dragons by their paradox names (Winged King and Iron Serpent). Also they humorously say that building an AI powered robot is a good idea if you ask if they’re an AI at the start of that scene. And finally, if you go down to the underdepths, there’s a book from the professor that says they were transported to a lake full of sulphur and met with a child that gave them a book, which of course happens in that scene. That’s probably what happened to Heath too somehow but I wish we got more lore on that guy
I played other Pokemon games but I would still consider myself a newbie when it comes to this series. Despite the DLC not really fixing much of the issues the base game has on a gameplay level...and not really elaborating (better) on Area Zero/Paradox mons, I still had a fun time. I would say the story carried it for me. The BBQs were also a fun time since I mostly play this game with friends anyway. Can't wait to see what the epilogue'll add. Also I completely agree with your take on returning mons, I was only excited because I don't own the majority of the past games so transferring them wasn't really an option lol
Why was the tree in area zero was so focused on in the trailers? It literally had nothing on it in the DLC itself, also they focused on the eyes of the box legendaries and nothing came of it?
What baffles me is how Crown Tundra is almost better than Indigo Disk, The Tapus, Aura Trio not returning is stupid. Especially people said that these would be busted with Flutter Mane and Chi-Yu, Calyrex Shadow has no counter and will dominate VGC with Yveltal gone.
but that's gonna happen once VGC will allow the restricted legends to run rampant which happens once every 3 years, however Primarina is happy that tapu fini isn't around as now she can shine and not be outclassed by it
it seems like every time there is a parallel universe of sorts in a game it gets dropped later which is stupid. also still frustrated with the fact that every time Pokemon makes a new game or DLC at least since legends it's still unplayable if you're blind or Visually Impaired And that wasn't the case before. At least not. completely.
Indigo disk had a missed opportunity for 4 characters to appear. Professor Juniper and Bianca( terrarium nuff said), Cheren as a teacher at Blueberry academy and of course N as the caretaker of Reshiram, Zekrom and Kyrem as well as the possibility of being a super boss.
Personally it’s a solid No for me, Indigo disk adds in a lot of good things, but the fact that all of the legendary Pokémon are shiny locked for no reason, how half of them are locked off in multiplayer, the story being pretty weak all things considered, specifically everything to do with Terapagos and area zero, and the game still, over a _year_ later, running just as bad as it did at launch, is just inexcusable. Also, I’m not a fan of Terapagos’ ability being time/dimensional travel, because it’s just not that interesting of idea. We’ve already done extra dimensional Pokémon in Gen 7 so making _another_ Pokémon that does this is dull. I vastly preferred the whole dream/imaginations made manifest thing because it’s just more interesting as a concept.
I had a lot of fun with the DLC, and I'm personally not really broken up about the legendaries being shiny locked as I would much rather do a max raid den in SW/SH then just reset my Switch over and over, though I do think it's dumb.
The shiny locking started in SwSh, and only got worse. I think it's a sign of the future, shiny legendaries will only be code/event/in-person based, or via PoGo raids, because remote raid passes are a huge profit source I'm sure.
The first shinies to be locked were some legends in Gen V. Though it does seem like they have incentive to lock them now because they indirectly cost real money in GO
@@lookatmyzombies9377 yeah in gen 5 only Zekrom and Reshiram where shiny locked, but from gen 6 onward is when they started to get crazy with them, granted this doesn't bother me as i never bother to shiny hunt, especially when it comes to legendary's
One thing TGR missed is that this is the first time since 2018 that returning legendaries have their battle themes, and it's the first time since the gen 1-3 remakes that those Pokemon get their updated themes
We needed a performance patch on day zero. For all its faults, BDSP had a performance patch ready to go on day one, when Ilca realized it needed it. Game Freak needs a big recruitment drive, and needs to be told by Nintendo to work with more developers to make the games. Genius Sorority should’ve been contracted to do the heavy lifting with SV, given their success with the GameCube and WIi tie in games.
How exactly these Legendary Pokémon can be shiny hunted in the new 9th gen format?! Clearly, you can't just soft reset them into existence in S/V the same way like older games
Hope the epilogue would tie up some loose ends & maybe give us some hints towards the next game set, but I feel like it'd suffer some similar issues that may ultimately stem from being rushed to the deadline
I wouldn’t have minded unlocking extra mons in the terrarium if they'd added more thsn just a few starters per biome. Like yes its great to see them but its maybe an extra half hour to find them all and then the biomes just feel repetitive with the selections afterwards.
At the very core, SV are great games. If the performance was better people would've been all over it. Imo Indigo Disk was a decent expansion, way better than Teal Mask. My only gripe is that I wish you could catch 2 of the version exclusive legendaries so you can trade with others without having to sacrifice the legendaries you currently have.
For me, the DLC has further cemented my displeasure with SV. The number 1 issue for me is the performance. I will certainly call the frame rate a slide show at best, the artic at worse. I was dumbfounded when I sent out my partner and the game froze for a few seconds. To say some positives, I do love the item printer has better odds to Spawn in the Poke balls I want to use: Dream ball, Safari Ball, and love ball, in comparison to the cramomatic. I use these balls for shiny hunts which is the one aspect of SV I really enjoy
You echoed my opinions really well!!! It baffled me, Area Zero was the highlight of SV and it felt incredibly lackluster in the DLC Crown Tundra was much better overall despite me liking the academy storyline/battles a lot (def the highlight). That area alone was cooler than the Terrarium/all of paldea except Area Zero
The professor came from the past I believe since in a journal they talked about a kid who gave them a white book which ended up being the protagonist. It’s kinda like a time loop thing
The paradox Pokémon exist because of a time paradox that’s what the kitakami scene was trying to say. If you read the notes in the underdepths sada/turo mention receiving a white book from a child. Meaning you gave sada and turo the means they needed to complete their plans.
I think there's only like, 1 paradox pokemon based question you asked that makes sense. Paradox Pokémon aren't from a different universe and Sada isn't from the past. That just doesn't make sense, Sada has a son, Arven, and mentions him while your talking at the crystal pool and paradox Pokémon keep being stated to be from this multiverse's past. But yeah, the Area Zero junk was pretty lame in the DlC.
No it didn’t 😭. There still bugs from a one year game, a lot of the mechanics in the dlc should’ve been in the base game, and they still didn’t explain some lore in the games.
It was half baked for a half baked game it was like giving out a meal that was barely cooked and u got extra appetizer that was also undercooked just raw.
@@Boltofbrilliance122 -Gym leader rematches should been included in the main game seeing how all other games have them -Elite four and Champion rematches should’ve been in the games and not like how you call them to the room I should get to challenge the league again like every other game the fact I have to pay 30 extra dollars for something Pokémon games have had for years is crazy -In the real mask they give you a charm that increases the amount of Tera shards you get which should be in the base game seeing how hard it is to get them without the dlc - Tera shards should’ve been found on the ground like it was in the teal mask especially in area zero which is were they are literally from - An alternative way to get TMs besides just crafting in sword in shield you could collect the points and you could buy TMs the fact that a previous game does this and this game makes you pay 30 dollars to do this is just going backwards -The flying mechanic this should’ve definitely been included seeing how annoying it is glide only a few feet you need to fly more in the base games than in dlc Everything listed literally just makes the game more helpful or has been in previous base games.
That random camera zoom on Kieran's chest made me laugh. It's like GF is saying, "We know his design looks feminine and he has a girls name but look at this, he's totally a dude". It's just funny when a company makes an androgynous character and then gets so uncomfortable about it that they feel the need to make sure you don't get confused in such an awkward way.
Carmine and Lacey get shoutouts from me. The former just has so many lines and Lacey just responding to you calling her cute with "bzzzzt. Nope. Wrong" was super funny.
They infer that the professors are the past ones before they died and it’s a cool time loop thing but they actually tell you where the paradox Pokémon are from they are from different timelines entirely or different universes they aren’t from the past/future
One thing that I would love(although it won’t happen) is a game in the 2D pixel style of the past. This would maybe allow for a much larger and longer game, as you wouldn’t have to worry about all the outside animations and 3D modeling. I would love a game on the switch that’s like 10+ hours of great story and challenge. Imagine combining Platinum, Heart Gold and Black/White into one game
but the Kitakami Crystal Pool does explain almost everything about what happened (though you do also need to check the Professor's desk at the Area Zero depths) Terapagos did pull the Professor from the past, as you give them the white book they describe in their depths journal, it is a bootstrap paradox and in the dialogue on what they are studying now, they talk about trying to catch Pokémon from alternate timelines, not the past or the future
I'm not gonna worry about shiny locked Legendaries since I can easily obtain the legendaries from my hundreds of hours played on Ruby and Sapphire up to Sword and Shield. I more than often get a kick out of the ordinary Pokemon being shiny since I rarely see those and they're an interesting phenomenon already.
The biggest issue with controlling your own pokemon, is your trainer not either riding or following along. You can run a solid distance from a trainer, and spawn a shiny. If you do, that shiny is completely uncatchable.
The DLC was a massive letdown. It’s unbelievable that there is no Battle Tower type facility. The special coaches and Ace Tournament don’t come anywhere close to making up for it. The Sword and Shield DLC gave us restricted training and Dynamax Adventures and all we got here was biomes to catch starter Pokemon? How lame and underwhelming. Even the Mochi Epilogue was whatever. There is no point in building competitive teams since the computer is so weak.
I didn't know the game was in need of "saving". I loved the DLC's and the fact we created the strongest trainer in the series out of jealousy felt so real.
I know it doesn't change anything for this DLC but if you like Terapagos watch the anime I know it's also for other Pokemon like Meloetta or Zygarde but Horizon is very much based on Terapagos
I mean, turo/sada ai confirm that the paradoxes are from either the distant past or future, and the professor at the pool is from our past since the research books in the Terapagos cave confirms the professor being given a white book by a child in a sulfur smelling place. And let’s be real, it felt more of a challenge to locate the legendaries with hints and seeing them static rather than seeing em like in usum or in a hoopa portal
my biggest issue with the dlc (same as with the teal mask) is how they handled area zero. cool story (i loved it), nice new areas, unova references and so on. but this is literally called THE HIDDEN TREASURE OF AREA ZERO. And as of that its just Terapagos, Stellar and 4 Paradoxes (2 each game, if you want the other 2 play the other version). I expected much more of the Zero Cavern. Maybe more of a laberynth, maybe more new paradoxes, more Sada/Turo/Heath's notes to give us more lore. Or simply just let Valiant/Moon and the Paradox Beasts/Swords of Justice spawn there (they literally are Perin's Quests, like why. what does Perin have to do with the Paradox lore, why does she have photos of Area Zero, WHY ARE THEY NOT CONNECTED TO THE MAIN STORY). It really feels empty and with nothing to do and its like THE MOST IMPORTANT PLACE IN ALL OF PALDEA. Again, I really really enjoyed it: Karmine and especially Kieran's arc and all of the Unova references. But aside from that, I am somewhat disappointed, which is funny bc if it wasn't called "The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero" I'd rate it much higher.
7:10 It IS confirmed that they were brought through stargates across space and time. Take Terapagos to the Crystal Pool, then you're gonna find out. 8:00 Dude, it's explained! Did you NOT pay attention to the scene? Sada/Turo was pulled from the past to our present, it's actually mentioned in a journal in the Underdepths and they created the time machine which pulled the paradox pokémon through from THE SAME timeline.
I was a sinnoh baby and loved the music, but it pales in comparison to Unova. Forever my favorite game I still go back to it every once in a while bc it has aged like fine wine
Sinnoh fans. Nah the Horn fans. Give me my trumpets! Seriously though I've always found it hard to pick a favorite sound track but it's gotta be between gens 3, 4 or 5.
