When he takes no equity or very low equity, he's just trying to do a quick flip of his money, and doesnt believe the business will get that big. That's why sometimes you see him go straight equity for about 20% or 25% or higher because those are the companies he thinks could get big and he could participate in a lucrative exit. As to entrepreneurs as long as they own a large portion of their company or all of their company they shouldn't be too averse to giving up 20%. It's all about challenging market share and then exiting. A shark will help you do that.

Mark has also historically stated that he cares about the success and well being of the entrepreneurs. He even wishes them luck every time they leave the tank, no matter if he got the deal or not. Mark knows that royalties will deprive the company of the capital they need to growth quickly and make the owner enough money to thrive. In royalty, the investor will almost always make a big profit before the entrepreneur. Mark cares, and he’s a big risk takes hehe

@@sachinstanislaus3856 it doesn’t actually mitigate risk. While you may certainly recoup SOME of your initial investments faster, in most cases, the royalty structure actually causes slower growth and more risk of total failure.

Royaltys arent all bad, especially if the margins are good. If hes sure the company will sell, letting her have most of the equity is better for the entrepeneur

You’re saying things that are common sense, everyone’s knows this. The reason people don’t do the deals is because they think they can still end up making millions without giving up a huge portion. Some people do end up making it big without giving up 50%, and some dont, it’s a risk they take. I wouldn’t risk money on you being the next big philosopher however… 😂

Very easy to speak with knowledge of hindsight. It’s a lot of pressure inside a room with figures who have presence atop of being on live TV. It’s all apart of the experience! They should be proud.

No. Not exactly. Daymond gets 20% equity of the company's profits of goods that are sold directly by the company and the entrepreneur gets 80%. Daymond as the Shark will take the responsibility of negotiating the licensing deal. He will have to give the licensee part of his 30% cut of the licensing royalties as part of the deal to obtain the licensing and rights to the Marvel characters, Peppa Pig. etc. So of the royalties from the licensing deals the entrepreneur will receive 70% and Daymond gets 30%. Out of Daymond's 30% he pays the licensing fees independentof his investment. Daymond did a similar successful licensing deal with his novelty sunglasses company Sunstaches.
