I have one of those caps and mine was doing the exact same thing. I decided to change it out, but I haven’t been able to start the bike up yet to see if the new cap made any difference. I’m glad your bike wasn’t worse.
mine did that too but luckily I just rebuilt the engine so I was just doing the first heat cycle when I noticed it. so luckily for me I caught it before anything bad happened
Best bet is to go OEM. I side with the peeps in smocks, goggles, nitrile gloves and enginerring degrees. You better understand all the implications and affects of what you changing. "If i had it all again I'd change it all"
The first of those rad caps that I had the thermostat stopped working. They sent me a replacement, new one the thermostat works but its doing the same as yours is doing now. Coolant just pours out.
@@oneofthosepierceboys5776 I’ll be emailing rmatv today. It was the first ride with that cap on for me unfortunately. They should pay for my dang top end lol
I learned my lesson with a Chinese-made Tusk lithium ion battery and I also got a brand new Chinese-made Moose CDI that was junk before I even took it out of the box. Although, I own plenty of Tusk tools and I have found the Tusk bar busters to be decent, but I will no longer buy Chinese stuff with moving parts or Chinese-made "automotive" electronics. The money saved is not worth the missed riding or failures on the trail.
Don't use these caps. It s fun gadget but it's likely to fail. And if it fails when you have no fluids to replace the lost fluids, you're gonna be fucked. I learned the hard way, on a 4 day, 500 mile trip through death valley. The cap worked fine for 6 months, then in the middle of the desert it was boiling over constantly. (I managed to keep fluids in it for the rest of the trip so my engine is okay.) When I got home, I stripped my entire bike down, bought a hiflow water pump, and installed an overflow tank. Put it all back together and, BANG. 3 minutes running, and it boiled over. I put my OEM cap on and it's back to normal.
I've been running that cap for 2 years on my 21' 350xc-f with zero issues. If your coolant was bone dry that's poor bike maintenance. Checking coolant level is priority on pre ride checklist. I'm going to say the cap had nothing to do with it.
It’s amazing how many stupid comments I get on this dumb cap. I know how to put coolant in and check it dumb ass, read similar reviews on the RMATV website. It’s a shitty cap, but I’m glad it worked for you. It’s funny how the problem solved as soon as the OEM cap was put back on. The tusk cap let’s coolant by and out the over flow.
Are you saying your cap didnt release pressure properly?? Iv had that cap {in 1.8} on several bikes, been flawless and temp was spot on with my oil temps. My 450 would overheat occasionally but after that cap and Engine Ice it ran a lot cooler
Yeah you most likely got a bad Tusk radiator cap. I have the same one now for a year and haven't changed the radiator fluid since, and I check my levels regularly and it's always toped off. So I would probably try to get a replacement as that one is most likely is a dud.
Yeah for sure! My buddy has the same one and it's fine. I did check the fluid when I installed it, but it is what it is, I'm just glad it wasn't worse.
Those caps are known for doing that. You should’ve been able to smell the coolant burning on the pipe though. Glad it was just a top end and nothing major
I have the absolute worst sense of smell unfortunately! I can't even partake in the highs of two stroke smoke smells! Had her out on Sunday and it preformed great!
the cap on your radiator was set for 2ATM , which is standard for guys that ride at higher elevation, now if your stock cap is rated high and you put a lower rated cap on your bike then it will leak, if not i would try to switch back to stock if it works fine then it's the cap and tusk should replace it --- and i just noticed that i am responding 1 year after you posted this.... so how did it turn out?
Lol well it seized my engine lol. The tusk cap was rated a higher pressure than the stock cap. I dunno, I read similar reviews on RMATV and wouldn't ever mess with this cap again.
Let me know how that goes! I'm curious as to what they say. I should sent mine back as well. I'm still using the back up I bought when I sent the first one back.
The bottom line is if your engine is running properly and not overheating it doesnt matter if you use a 1.1, 1.8 or a 2.0 bar cap. Water boils at around 230 with a 1.1 and 255 with a 1.8.. If your motor is getting up to 230-255 you have overheating issues and the cap isn't to be blamed if your bike spits out water. Most properly running bikes stay under 215 at most so the pressure cap type doesnt matter if the water never boils and makes steam.. some people complain that as soon as they put on a 1.8 it spits out water that's because your bike is getting too hot and it could be from a number of reasons
It wasn’t an overheating issue at all as every other cap was fine. It’s just a garbage cap. The engine on this bike runs pretty cool as most properly jetted 2 strokes do
@@LCARSADV Well yes if it's a bad cap then of course. 1.8's are hard and tricky to put on the spring is very stiff and hard to seat properly if your not really paying attention.
I put one of these on my Husky 501 and once the engine reached operating temps it immediately started spitting coolant. I put the stock one back on and no issues. For some reason these only work on some bikes. Waste of $28.
i think from the few video i see its cause yall take to big pressure caps... more pressure means it will only let coolant flow at 2bar... while stock it seems most bikes are 0.8 -1.3 max
@@LCARSADV im not arguing with that :) probably shitty, even doh im gonna order a aliexpress on with 1.1 bar and 0.8 bar for my quad cause i hate not able to know the temps and i dont wanna cut the coolant hoses to install a temps guage...
@@LCARSADV I don't know if Rocky Mountain ATV still does it but you used to be able to get money back on tusk products that failed. I got like a partial refund on the Africa twin High Fender kit they had because their first iteration bolts marred up my fork legs
I'm glad they refunded you, not sure why all the chinese comments though? I understand they make a lot of junk, but they also make most everything these days including a lot of parts that go on euro bikes and all your cars and computers. It's a tricky situation because communists suck and if there were USA parts I would buy those, but we don't have those options anymore because it is we (USA) who has created this chinese monster and the situations your complaining about. We are a greedy people chasing the dollar at the cost of our own country's soul. I'm happy with my china bike though, but I wish there were a USA bike to buy.
@@LCARSADV thanks for the follow up I just got off the phone with them they are sending a replacement and more engine ice since I lost a lot on the ride I don’t what I’ll do yet I guess I’ll try the new one but man that thing was hell to get on and off my radiator so if the next one is that bad I won’t run it.
@@LCARSADV yeah. My TSE is going strong. 1045 miles of high altitude fun. I thought I was having problems today but it was just the spark plug going out... After 1045 miles of medium-hard riding; hours, unknown.
