I have to tell you that this absolutely worked for us! Watch BOTH videos and be very careful about applying it exactly as described so you don't get anything on any other plants. Everything told us to wait until the end of summer, but I got inspired and wanted to "get it done." Everything I read said to wait until after the plants finished flowering, so I did... for 4 days. I applied it exactly as directed and the first day, the CC was looking weak. The Third day, it appeared to be springing back and I thought that Charlie had won again!?!! Ten days later, it was brown and just flat out DEAD!!! COMPLETELY DEAD in ALL Areas!!! If anyone wants some Triclopyr, I have plenty left! One treatment and DONE!!!!
Never attempt to spray, treat, cut or anything else “over the neighboring line”. Just talk kindly to your neighbors as you ask permission. If they suck, oh well, they pay their property taxes, not you…..
The moles come over from the neighbors. My lawn is treated for grubs and pests. They explore a bit and go back over into the other lawn. I trapped him last season and haven't had the issue since. Thanks for watching!
I did, he is a nature person and didn't want me to spray it. Luckily, we are two years out from recording this and it remains creeping charlie free back there!
As for the moles, they are a lawns friend. They are insectivores and do not eat the turf as is a common misconception. They are seeking grubs, such as Japanese Beetles. If you don’t want moles, apply insecticide granules to kill the grubs. Better yet, leaves moles to do the job and help aerate in the process.
Looking great! I have been fighting creeping charlie for years. I tried this last year and it worked well. There is some back this year but I think there will be less and less each year and probable go away.
This is straight from the product label "e Restrictions • Hi-Yield Triclopyr Ester may injure certain turfgrass species. Do not apply to bahiagrass, bentgrass, bermudagrass, centipedegrass, St. Augustine grass, or zoysiagrass, unless turf injury can be tolerated"
Believe me, I wanted to. My neighbor does not want herbicides on his property. The fence is a slat anyways and it still grows through even if I spray to the fence. This eradicated it from my lawn and I plant to stay on the property line this summer with spraying to ensure I keep it away. Historically, I never really messed with the lawn back there so it was pretty inundated with it. I appreciate you watching and dropping a comment Andre!
Awesome! It has worked very well for me. It took me two applications and then I started using pre-emergent back there last fall and this spring, zero creeping charlie in the lawn now. Good luck!
As long as you are applying it to cool season turf varieties (check the label if you have warm season turf), you can apply in the summer, just follow the directions and do not apply it when temps are over 85 degrees. I typically apply herbicides in the evening when the grass is dry and the sun is going down to avoid that 85 degree mark. Good luck, this stuff works great on creeping charlie - just make sure you keep it away from plants you don't want to kill since this is a potent herbicide.
You can apply any time of year as long as temps are under 80 to 85 and you are not in a drought period. I would wait at least 6 weeks to seed after applying this
Please say something about your spray applicators. Yours looks pretty fancy. I just want a simple inexpensive one. If you have any recommendations, that would be great. Also, how dangerous it is to human health? Thank you.
I use teejet tips I find that they spray much better. If you wear your PPE and apply as directed per the product label it works great with no issues. Thanks for watching!
I've got Creeping Charlie in all my garden areas. I'v tried a lot of stuff and nothing worked so I'll try the triclopyr. Thanks for giving me hope with your update.
I appreciate you watching! The Triclopyr is LEGIT - it totally got rid of the Creeping Charlie in my back lawn. Even this spring, when I go out there it remains gone so far. I do plan to treat the property line and that area again this spring to ensure it stays out, but it has worked great so far. I will say if you have a bad case of it, it may take a few applications, but if you stay on it, you should have great success.
@@TheLawnLover I've been fighting Creeping Charlie for years. I am looking forward to having clean gardens. Thank you for bringing this product to my attention.
why didn't he use seed oil with..... are you going to get rid of them moles... I have a horrific front yard my neighbor has a beautiful front yard.... I'll check out your herbicide video
It worked fantastic! Still creeping charlie free back there, only applied the triclopyr twice and now I just use preemergent in the speing time to keep the creeping charlie at bay. Thanks for watching!
I ready reviews for hi yield Triclopyr and they said the mixture had to be constantly agitated during use. ? do you know if that is true. ? if yes do you know any Triclopyr brands that don't have to be agitated constantly so they dont settle out ? is this Triclopyr bottle oil soluble or water soluble
In my case, I mixed up one gallon of water either the triclopyr and agitated/mixed it with my drill stirrer. It was sprayed out within 5 minutes and I had no issues with it not working due to not having constant agitation. As long as you spray it right after you mix it, you will be fine. Thanks for watching!
Great video! I used it too and it worked great. Even with the dandelions. Now I’ll seed. Any tip on aeration first before I seed.? I have this hand held aeration tool with 4 prongs and I stick to and press the lawn. Kills my arms man. Maybe I go get a roller kind?? Budget is a concern and this is a relatively small rectangle shaped lawn in between 2 townhomes. You know. Like 25’ (foot) X 100’ (foot) space. What aeration device should I get? Been looking on CraigsList. Maybe one I can push. Anyone else have any suggestions? Love ur hat! I’ll buy it here soon for’ sure. Peace!
I'm glad it worked great for you! As far as an Aerator, you can usually rent a gas power one from your local hardware store or rental place for pretty cheap for a few hours and really save yourself from doing it manually. Thanks for watching!
How long did you wait after the initial application? It usually takes several weeks to start seeing results. I wouldn't recommend applying this herbicide at double the rate, it is a very strong herbicide and will damage good grass.
I’ve had great results with Tzone SE which also contains tricopyr but adds sulfentrazone as well as 2-4-D and Dicamba. It covers a lot of ground (1.5 oz per 1K sq ft) and even knocks down woody vines ect well. Also pretty affordable especially considering how far even a 32oz. container goes. Actually cheaper than big box store stuff in the long run.
This is the Spyker Ergo Pro 50 - very nice spreader. Here is the video overview I did on this - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-6jZuunLSUis.html
I would refer you to the specific info on the product label. With most herbicides, Once they are applied and dried they advise it is safe for pets and people to reenter the treated area. I typically spray in the evening and let it sit overnight. As far as rain, I would give yourself at least 24 hours of no rain when you apply, but it should be rain safe once it dries. Thanks for watching!
No impact on fertilizer applications with this product. Once it's dried you are OK to apply fertilizer, to be safe maybe wait 24 hours. Thanks for watching!
As I noted in the video, this is what the website states "A surfactant is recommended only when treating brush, vines, or woody weeds. DO NOT use a surfactant when treating lawns." If you are treating your lawn, I would NOT use a surfactant. I didn't use a surfactant and it totally eliminated all of my creeping charlie after two applications spaced about 4 weeks apart. Thanks for watching!
I sprayed the property line good both of the times I applied it last season. I then put down pre-emergent (prodiamine) back there this spring in split applications and zero creeping charlie has came back over into my lawn. It has worked very well. Thanks for watching!
I have used several backpack sprayers and for the last two seasons, I have had good success with the Petra HD4000. This is a high quality sprayer at a fair price - I linked it below if you want to check it out. I love this thing. If you are looking for another model, I would highly suggest anything from FlowZone. These are a little pricier, but give you the pressure washer style wand. If you have questions let me know. Thanks for watching! Triclopyr will definitely handle clover well. I would use a more of a broad spectrum broadleaf herbicide to cover the rest - something like SpeedZone or Triad Select - I have used both and they work very well. Thanks for watching and good luck with the weeds!
Absolutely! I am so glad I got rid of that crap for the most part and have a lawn up there again. The kids love playing back there, so if I stay on it from creeping over and seed again next spring to thicken the grass and choke that stuff out it will be perfect! I love inexpensive products that work!
@@GirLzLawn I have read that pre emergent is effective with it, I just never treated the lawn back there prior to this season because it was mostly creeping charlie and I wasn't going to put money into it. I plan to put down pre emergent back there next spring to see how it works, wanted to let this RTF get established good back there this fall first.
It depends on how bad the creeping Charlie is in your lawn. If it is really bad it may need a repeat application 4 to 6 weeks after the initial one to really kill everything off. Thanks for watching!
If you want to improve upon success using triclopyr (whether 3, an amine, or 4, an ester), you can add a few drops of dish soap such as Dawn, to add surfactant. This will lower surface tension of the water to help spread evenly on the “hard to penetrate” Creeping Charlie leaves.
I agree, but it was instructed not to use a surfactant with the product when I applied it. It appears since filming this video a few years ago, they may have updated the recommendations. Thanks for watching
I had best success with this in warmer temps (daytime temps between 60 and 80). I would NOT recommend applying it when daytime temps exceed 85 degrees to prevent damaging to good grass.
@@TheLawnLover The moles are going after grubs so have to kill/ control grubs - check out duocide for that. Once the grubs are gone, so are the mole's food source and then soon after so will the moles.
According to the product label, it is safe for people and pets to re-enter the area after the product has dried. That said, I typically like to spray herbicides in the evening and allow them to dry for at least 12 hours overnight before re-entering the area. I would refer you to the product label linked her for more specific information www.domyown.com/msds/Triclopyr-Ester-Label.pdf. Thanks for watching!
FYI. Your intro has a SHARP increase in volume unpleasant for those using ear buds. I am sure you wer3 not aware or whether you have any contr9l of this 🤔
Hi Donald, thanks for reaching out. I was made aware from someone else a few weeks and tried to correct this on the newer posted videos since then. Not sure why it does this or if it's a RU-vid issue but I am trying to correct. I appreciate you watching!
Because of your neighbor, you'll always be fighting creeping charley. Ask if you can kill to the fence to buy yourself more time in between applications.
Luckily, I have not had any issues with it after this. I used the Triclopyr for two applications to kill it, and now I just spray pre-emergent back there in the fall and spring to prevent it from creeping over. We are over a year now with zero of it back in my lawn - stuff worked great. Thanks for watching!
@@TheLawnLover I'm currently testing it on the woody weed that leaves tiny pea pods stuck to your clothing as you walk by here in Florida. I should have tackled this 10 years ago. If this don't work after a couple hits or so, I will try Fahrenhiet that I haven't opened yet. Thanks for the reply.
