That poor starter, so many GM builds have a terrible sounding starter, it seems many people don’t go through setting up the starter clearance properly! Glad you got the noise fixed, I hope that rocker wasn’t adjusted properly and not a lobe/lifter going flat! Good luck!
Starter clearance was checked. It was a used one a subscriber gave me so I put it on. The timing was WAY too high. The rocker arm just wasn’t tightened. There was very few threads showing on stud.
honest work is the best work! Great work Mr. 209. (i moved the battery on my car and even though i marked the cables, when i hooked up the cables I crossed em. don’t tell anybody.)
Good job brother! It sucks that something like that causes you to have to tear it all the way back down. I'd still like to see you bring it to the No Name Nationals 2024! 😁
I'm glad it's fixed now, good job. I did that once myself on a small block Buick 350. But I caught it before it went in the car. I probably wouldn't have noticed it if the sbb 350s didn't have offset rods though. It made me notice while I was assembling it.😎👍
Yep. If I had swapped two on the same side I would have noticed because the rod chamfer would have been on wrong side. I guess I was at least paying attention to that. Lol
There was a old hot rodder myth that if you swapped all the pistons from one side to the other, it would make more horsepower. It absolutely doesn’t make more horsepower, just more noise. It was proven on an episode of engine masters
Thank you for taking the time to do these videos, they are much appreciated! I have a '74 Nova 2 door coupe & looking for that trim/molding piece that runs side to side below the rear window & above the back of the package tray. I have looked & looked with no luck. Would you possibly have any suggestions?
I am patiently waiting for another video, hope your doing well. Have you ever done mini-tubs? I think that would be a great video, I have a Nova you could use 😂 it needs them.
I was about to ask about the conversion Nova, because I'm curious to see it come together. Partly because if I find a Nova that I can afford, I'd have to replace the quarters because, well, rust. And seeing how the nova comes together, it can help with things like where do I weld this? Does that even need welded? That kind of stuff, and also, if I can't FIND a two door nova, I can see mostly how to MAKE a two door nova. The next thing I'm curious about is how to fix the rear axle being off to one side. Is that 1/4 inch? Or 1/2 inch? I've heard there's a way to fix it without the cutting/welding, but I'm not sure on that. Maybe a manual transmission conversion for it. Hell, I'm going to be watching this channel for basically whatever you do to that Nova, and any other Nova you build, I just hope I don't see one that got hit by an idiot or something.
The 4 door to two door conversion just isn’t worth it. I’m doing it to say I did it. You have to have a 2 door donor for the inner quarters and roof structure. The 2 door body I’m using for parts was restorable but someone had stolen the VIN so it was never gonna be able to get registered and be worth the hassle. I also will be changing quarters on another car soon hopefully that will be helpful to you. As far as the rear axle being off, it’s usually around 1/2 inch. Some cars don’t have the issue with all new rear Susie skin that’s properly adjusted. Sone cars still do. It’s mostly tolerance stacking that causes it as far as I can figure. Thanks!
Wonder why that one rocker arm was loose. That rocker stud seemed to have less threads showing than the other ones. The white headers remind me of the Blackjack Aluma-coats I ran on my 72 Monte Carlo.
Yeah. I like the old school white headers. The rocker arm is loose because I was making a video about multiple ways to adjust valves. Decided not to post the video but I had backed off of some of the valves to readjust and missed one.
No they won.t, I took one of my front springs to a spring shop and had them match the diameter with a thicker coil and he came out a perfect spring. The stance was perfect and the 454 hardly moved the spring an inch. The part number was 5610 but I don't know the make.@@Shop209
Cool, glad you figured out the noise and it wasn't anything serious. On another note, how come you haven't gotten back to the 307? It's been a good while. I'm very curious as to how it runs and it's performance. What are the specs on it again?
my wheel and tire combo on my nova isnt squared in my wheel wells like they sit a little back ever so slightly idk if thats normal or if thats somthing to do with my leaf spring setup
Hey, what's going on, John? Hope everything's going well with you. Anyhow, quick question on those door striker pins, the solid ones. What is the part number for the striker pins that you purchase? Because I bought some from Dorman and they do not work.
I am redoing my 74. Nova would like to know what is the best headers you found that would fit and the front springs that would make it set Wright if you have any part numbers, thank you it a small block
@johnnyjones5984 • I put Stainless Steel shorty Headers on my 74 Nova , Small block 327 But long tube works too ! Hedman Headers Doug's Headers Hooker Headers You must make sure if you have power steering, smog parts , Standard Trans and other things that Headers will fit before ordering
I like long tube headers but they do set low under car. I have yet to find a set of springs that have a great ride height for most situations. That’s why I have adjustable coil overs in two of my cars. I’ll be using a set of BMR springs to replace the ones in the budget nova but I don’t know how they’ll sit yet. As for headers the hooker super comp fit pretty good on my car.
Quick question I found some 8/10 condition 69 nova soft padded a pillars while cleaning up my car the other day I can’t find none on eBay or any non remakes how rare are these things I know you know your stuff and if I were to list them on eBay what’s a ball park they could bring in? I can’t find any on the internet I’m thinking these are ultra rare especially in this condition
Question... are you familiar with Pontiac Ventura Sprints? I have one in my area and for the most part every single part on it is the same as a chevy nova, but what about the windshield?
