Sounds perfect to me mine is open headers and is way louder but once your ears bleed it’s not as loud anymore. Thank you for all the videos the older ones helped a ton and how to find a build sheet glad it was there proved it was a big block ss car. thank you
I have a set of ten inch rims and tires I put under each tire...gives you about that height and way safer than jack stand.... The way I always worked on my ol Novas... When not around the lift at the shop.
I had that same exhaust system in 2 1/2 on my Nova and it worked very well with the hooker headers. I'm going to be installing Doug's headers and they exit closer to the frame rails and was able to run pretty much straight pipe from the headers to the offset center borlas
The 3 inch Exhaust is the Best thing You can do for a Big block, I have had a 3 inch on my 67 Chevelle for 20 years and still in new Condition, I have a 468 with 671 Blower, I Ported my 69 corvette Heads 435 hp I open the Exhaust side up a 1/4 inch match Gasket The 3 inch made it all come together, I have wrap around Hooker Headers. 700hp 695 ft pounds but the Exhaust is what made it work Best. KEEP it On Car
I’ve got some magnaflow straight through mufflers on my 76 Corvette sbc and it sounds great. Not too loud. Aluminum heads and shorty headers. 2.5” exhaust if I remember right.
I have a 74 Nova that I converted the front and rear on and I call it Frankenstein too LOL, I installed electric cutouts on mine though. Its the best of both worlds...Trust me.
I bought a set of borla straight through offset center. I have not cranked the car yet but I picked them because most people on RU-vid said they were too quiet. They're also really not that expensive compared to their late model specific fit mufflers
3" was a real tricky deal on my 68 4door .. 230 I-6 stock from about parking break wire.. a mere 100 trips to the store and 600 man hours under the car.. but it was worth it.
I installed a pair of 19.0 inch Dynomax Bullet Resonators 10.0 inches off my big block headers then a pair of Borla XR-1 straight through exhaust mufflers size 3.0 inch x 17.0 inch stopped the mufflers shy of the posi-rear-end, muffler center inline with outer axle weld of the rear end spaced and level, zero drone inside... around 5,000 miles the mufflers should have a deeper growl. Extremely happy, you might try the Borla XS-1 off set... they sound nice on a camaro believe he's in Florida. He's very happy as well.
That’s a very wicked sounding lope that that cam has. Enough to scare away a lot of contenders😮. The volume is turned up a little loud but it sure sounds good just like that. 👊😮👍
@@Shop209 yea, I wasn’t real clear about what I was saying. I was trying to say that the tailpipe volume was loud like I like it but you might get a ticket. Love the sound.
Sounds awesome I put 3” On my 74 ss with super 40s the front is offset in and rear center out with the original style tail pipes that are short and just turn down behind the rear tires where the original hangers are , it sounds amazing my engine is that 355 4 speed stick with 3:08 posi gears 1 7/8 Headers’s cause my first gear in my 4 speed Is that 3:11 first gear trans that’s why I need the 3:08 it’s in
cut up some sidewall off a tire and make hangars with it.. yup straps around pipe like gutter straps or sportbike can strap then a washer and self tapper right into frame whatever, sounds perfect to me . . .
Any way you can do a video on how to center a stubborn Steering wheel? I pulled my wheel off when I got it to find out it's splined so it's not as simple as pulling it off and putting it back on. Nova sounds great even if it's too loud. :)
Since you got onto the topic of exhaust, I'm curious what would be better to lower backpressure? Single *90 out in front of the back tires, or a *45 off the muffler, towards the tire, then another*45 with a pipe coming straight out? Also, may want to look at offset exit mufflers if you are having rear clearance issues. It's been a LONG time since I was part shopping, but I think flowmaster has some.
If it's to loud you're to old and I say that was to loud because I am to old.😁 The best thing about electric cars is how they sound, everything else about them sucks but they do sound good.🤔 Ya know, I went from a 2" dual exhaust with Cherry Bombs with rams horn exhaust manifolds to a 2.5" X-pipe system with 1 5/8" headers on my sbc 383 and my car ran the exact QM times before the new system.🤔😯😡 And the Cherry B setup sounded better IMHO.🤨 Both systems sounded similar in the loudness level but the CB had a deeper note. I ordered the new system with turbo style mufflers that aren't annoyingly loud but still sounds like there's something under the hood that has some power when you step on the throttle. It exits out the back and with the windows rolled up, don't hardly notice it cruising in overdrive.😎👍
Hey, sorry to be off topic but I need to know about the bumper tucks. Is there a video on it? A muffler shop owner told me I had to give the passenger and fuel tank area (ob) a wide berth. With an exhaust like that, why would you want a radio? Straight thru and not too loud are usually mutually exclusive.
I think it sounds great if it was out the back ! Why not an out back exit with dumps ? Pre muffler( lol ) So much resonating with underneath exit as far as drivability. And no other vehicle has ever had that same exit as a Nova. All the N.O.V.A.’s as far as I remember. Take care bud
My shock relocation makes the tailpipes pretty hard to install without hitting. I love the way it sounds but it’s just too loud. Gonna go to a different Dyno max muffler.
@@Shop209those oval dynomax mufflers will quiet it down quite a bit more..that's what I've got on mine (74 nova, 358...465/465 cam..187x heads)( dynomax 3" offset inlet, center outlet) you can flip them either way cuz it's just straight through anyways..and 3 inch exhaust. I've also got an x pipe. Get one and it'll quiet it down even more.
@@Shop209 my oldest brother lives in Thomasville, near Tallahassee, me and him saw Dave Mason live on leap day night and went to the famous spook bridge in quitman, close to Valdosta
3 inch is loud. Especially when running straight thru's. I have dual 3 Flowmasters on my FrankenVega, with electric cutouts. So with a flick of a switch, I can go open headers. It took a lot of cutting fitting and welding, but it's well worth it. You can hear the difference at 1:07 into this video. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Tbdxlht-DxI.htmlsi=N8UruahKGCYrQegC
@@Shop209 Thanks Much! Do it! You'll love the convenience. I Built mine so it goes straight into the cutouts and branches off to the mufflers, so you get full open headers. I have to check out more of your channel. Keep up the good work.
Hi John. Question that I'm hoping u know. I have 70 4 door will a 2 Dr windshield trim fit on the 4 door? I need the passenger lower piece. Any info would be appreciated.
@@Shop209 Right, Where I live in Florida now I do alot of driving up and down U.S. to get to work and to cars and coffee's/cruise-ins/shows so I don't want all that crazy noise.
That's illegal in some states , Some state laws require that the exhaust exits back of the rear axle , Which all side pipes are illegal. Open Headers -Very illegal Also Sound levels
I don't know what happened but my car started running real bad. Went to change the plugs and gas shot out of 5 of my cylinders. What happened. Thank you
@@Shop209 while I was driving. If I let it set a couple of days it might not run bad but on the other hand it might not make any difference. I change carbs and it still acts like this.
