Whatever that thing is has prolly been floating there for hours if not days, with the cardboard above the waterline. If there hasn't been any bad weather or high waves it would dry and stay that way
It's a fish farm that's come adrift. They're usually in bays and estuaries and used to farm fish (things like tuna, salmon, etc). When they're in operation, they have purse nets underneath - however these are removed for maintenance, or when the farm is not in use. What looks to have happened here is that a farm has come adrift from it's moorings. They're really common throughout aquaculture.
Thanks a ton for posting your comment. At 1st I _honestly_ thought this was a trampoline cage they'd found way out in the ocean! 😂 On a more serious note, is there a way to find out if this fish farm contains netting, mesh or something that could/ will harm the wild fish in area? What the heck would a person do if they happened upon something like this, call the coast guard? I'm pretty certain that the owners would like it back, IF they knew where to it was, right? 😣
Cool to see Burnt Cove get name dropped online! I worked for Littlebay Lobster out of Stonington, Deer Isle for three seasons, always nice hearing/seeing things around the area!
Thank you for removing something that is so dangerous for both animals and humans. I'd love to see a follow up vid and get the full story!!! Thank you for all you guys do!!!
@@FatherSonHolyspir1t Big manly man has no phobias, Usually when you have a fear of something you don’t really know why. Maybe you’re just a serial killer and don’t have that thing in ur brain to tell you to be scared.
@@FatherSonHolyspir1t idk it's just an odd phobia I have. I can't look at huge boat propellers in the ocean either. I guess it just puts it I to prospective how big and deep the ocean really is and it freaks me out big time lol.
It’s a old Salmon ring pen, back in early 2000s they had them all over the coast of Maine, but most of the business that used them got red of them. so that one probably was just cut adrift and left out in the ocean
No, these types of pens are still in use. It was steel pens that they stopped using. These pens, made of high density polyethylene, are still in extensive use
@@richardfarnquist3361that only works if you started browsing his channel specifically. Most people probably found this scrolling through random Shorts
I feel like it's used for something else. If I put a note on something intended for use in water, I'd definitely put a waterproof note on it instead of cardboard
Its a bait wheel. It gets wrapped in netting and live bait gets thrown in it for later. We use those that size for pogies. Popular with charter fishing guys
@@MattyBlades: Because we avoid mixing with the tourist industry as absolutely hard as we can. They're a nuisance. Charters are more a Massachusetts / Southern Maine thing where they belong.
@@mangacomics1601jokes on you because in 28 years living jn a small fishjng town i can say with certainly that ive NEVER HEARD OR SEEN a boat ask someone for a resume to start fishing on their boat!?!?!🤨 ...specially sense 80-90% of fishermen didnt finish highschool!!!🤷
@@joesphschramm3754 go for a drive along the coast of Maine there loads of fishin villages that'll take you out and always someone looking for a sternman. Stop into the bars and visit the warfs you'll find someone friendly.
@@UnknownNewf Wow, how big is the net ring? I worked 60' Polars and I think some of the pens had 6' rings in the middle, and some just had the bird netting just stretched over the top!
@weerdbeard The biggest ive use to work with in norway was about 650feet around and the nets were about 220feet deep. So pretty big, hard to change the nets on those suckers :)
@robinhallqvist9915 Norway takes fish farming VERY seriously. The US has a very unhealthy relationship with it. On one hand we have issues with bycatch and bottom destruction (and in the case of lobstering, whale entanglement) but we also don't want fish farms because of domesticated fish escaping, and the waste from the pens. And the loudest people are the ones that know the least about the environment and the industry!
I love watching your channel 😍 i just have a question ❓ can you do a tour of the boat ⛵ i love fishing boats and where do you lay down when need a nap 😊 take care you and your crew 💗
Seriously?? Better than what i could come up with! But really, iff u really know , for some reasons now i not only want to know , i NEED to know!! Thanks man!! ✌️😁
Part of a coast guard station on the middle coast of maine and this sounded like an area we patrol, if this was reported wouldve been an interesting thing to deal with lol
It’s a fish farm. We have them all over the coast of Scotland. It would have a net all round about it. In Scotland it would normally be used to farm Salmon. It’s very simple to explain.
So, the note on this cardboard shows no water damage whatsoever! If the note was real it had to get wet at some point obviously it's dry and shows no marks from drying after saltwater! 😮😮
Imagine this call to your boat insurance. “Okay so you were driving (do you drive a boat?) your boat in the middle of the ocean and you hit…a trampoline? Oh! They left a note. “
That’s definitely a bird stand, commonly used on cages of fish. It floats in the middle of the fish pen and the bird net sits on top of this thing you are looking at to keep it out of the water
It's good you're using trap cages. Nets that are left, checked who knows how often, have killed and maimed so many unintended critters. Trash, fishing line, and hooks - especially with the barbs not flattened. I watch seal rescue over in Namibia. Tragic!
Ayyyupp. 😊I'm a maniac too!lol from north Yarmouth as a school age kid as ND moved to Portland and worked the shrimp industry for a few years i love mane !
LEAVE IT IN THE OCEAN!!!!! If you could sink that metal ring to the bottom of the ocean floor…sea life will attach itself to the ring creating a large ecosystem…that’s the exact method oceanic scientists are using to regrow damaged/dying coral reefs across the ocean…
Net pen for fish hatcheries, at least that’s what I think it is. We used a circular net pen here for our fish, only used to help the yearling acclimate to salt water than released them
@@LeeLeeLeeLeeLee there’s usually a board walk above water, if it is a net pen it’s definitely soaked up water and the boardwalk is submerged. But I could see if being an above ground pool as well lol
@@LeeLeeLeeLeeLeei was thinking a trampoline 😂😂, the area code is Akron, ohio(where i live) we dont have any large lakes out here besides up at lake erie in cleveland so Im stumped about what it is..
As a Mainer and former lobsterman this is most Mainer shit I’ve ever seen. At least it ain’t from Chebeague…I’d just let it sit out there at that point.
The note being tied to it tells me it was sent to ocean intentionally. We don't have tornados in maine, so how else would something that heavy just get swept into the water unless they had it on a beach front property during a flood.
Please if you are doing shorts in parts put the next one in the description. All of your shorts on mobile are untitled in that section and there is no search.
Doesn't that just pss you off..it certainly urks me..& how come the note wasn't saturated..freshly put there no doubt & video has taken advantage of this siting knowing quite well what it is luring viewers to view with the dumb title..very disappointing overall willing to go back & retrieve it😤
I'm pretty sure you found a lighthouse railing that had been missing since the last hurricane! For lack of a better word, I can hear them thanking you now!
This does not change the fact that there are 21 million penguins in Antarctica, and in Malta there are 502,653 inhabitans. So if the penguins decide to invade Malta, each Maltese will have to fight 42 penguins.
Kinda looks like a feeder that you might have in a cattle pen to put hay in. My thought process was they probably have cows or something near the cost and put a note on it incase it floats off in high tide or smth.
