Shadow of the Colossus ranks as one of the greatest games in PlayStation history, if not gaming history as a whole, but did you know these facts about the PS2 masterpiece?
A less aggressive and slower control style with no sudden turns makes Agro a lot easier to handle. It takes some time to get used to but her movement is semi-automatic and you usually only need to point her in the direction you want to go and she will do the rest. Agro is surprisingly good at navigating terrain and avoiding minor obstacles on her own and is the only videogame horse that I know of that feels like a living being with somewhat functioning instincts.
Gets a lot easier when you realize you’re not controlling Agro, you’re controlling Wander who pulls her reins Her cantor, from my experience, is probably as realistic as a horse could feel in a video game Also very, very, very rarely would you ever need precision with Agro, generally just steering her in the right direction works fine as the game was built around this
My favourite colossi is Gaius, the giant knight that sleep on flying island, why is he my favourite? Because he has very cool moves of attacking, like when you are far from him, he literally tries to hit you with his knife. When you are close, he makes his sword to stab ground to kill you.
Out of everything the backstory intrigues me because of the enviroments they live in especially when you face Phalanx. Man I wish Malus actually was able to move he's cool but like half of him is literally stationary really taking back his role as the leader of them
@@mr.brightside2665who said he was their leader? He's was the biggest, but I think all of them were controller by people at one point. Think about how they all have convenient human hand rails to climb up their back, battlements on their shoulders etc. Malus is literally a statue, he's not a oppressive force for those that look at him. He's a symbol of Dormins power. They most likely worshipped Malus as the strongest piece of Dormins soul, and what that represents. He's a living version of the Idols in the main hall.
This masterpiece is simply phenomenal. I remember playing it when it first came out in 2005 as I had seen it on those TV programmes which feature gameplay. Then I absolutely loved the remake too and platinuming it. It has a very eerie feeling of anxiety and isolation, just some dread building up at all times and thats what I love about it. Quite an unsettling game but thats what makes it unique for me.
I relate. I never experienced isolation and loneliness in a game until I played this. How the world felt so dense and mysterious even though it had nothing more than 16 bosses is credit to the artists. I have no idea how they achieved it, and can't explain how, but I have yet to a play a game that has given me that feeling all this years since. I would say breath of the wild, and maybe prince of Persia sands of time, were the closest, but still no where near
@@dineshn 100% true with me as well. Whenever I play this game I always feel really unsettled and anxious because of the isolated settings and the gigantic landscape in the middle of nowhere. Then the colossi battles make me feel even more unsettled. No other game really creates this feeling for me. Even after so many years this game sets out a certain standard and benchmark, one which so many of today’s games fail to achieve. I forgot to mention its soundtrack in my original comment. Its soundtrack score/music is simply beautiful, pure magic, almost as if God themselves dropped a page out of their book and it fell to us from the sky. The music is what also makes this game truly unique for me, from its main theme to each soundtrack during colossus battles.

You know, ever since this game came out I’ve maintained that the 17 colossus was a dual colossus, being the horse’s movement and the camera. I guess I wasn’t that far off since apparently the horse controls were intentional.
When it was first released on ps2 I didn't know anything about this game. I was in the store and I just picked it and turn the case. I read Japan studio team ico. I loved ico so I was like, ok let's give it a chance. I inserted the disc and I tried to do what Dormin said. Raise the sword and follow the beam to find the colossus. I was astonished with the animations of the game. The grab system the jump. And then the first collosi.. Aahhh... The best game
When I played this game, I simply wanted to show everyone I could how wonderful and well thought out this game is, it makes me want to display it in a museum
I do not understand why they didnt make another shadow of game it was so good then jus give us some new colossy to kill an another story even a vague one again an itd sell it was jus an amazing idea noone else has really tried since
I used to get angry on Agro a lot of times especially when in battles he would run into a boulder ruining the whole setup. But when my boy came back limping to the shrine at the end of game, I was literally in tears for his love of his master
Such a Missed Opportunity for them to include The 10 Cut Colossi for The 2018 Remake of Shadow of The Colossus but They didn't I wished they did DLC for the Cut Colossi for the Remake Cuz I would play it if they do DLC for the 2018 Remake
Some do have names in the game files, but they’re pretty lackluster. The final colossus I believe is called Evis in the files. Some are just referred to like, [name] A or [name] B
I literally just finished the game, and while shrine hunting, I noticed a few big empty unused areas that I had a feeling we’re left behind due to being unfinished collosi battle arenas!!
@@DavidSedano you still don't understand... no version of the game has all 48 colossi. Before they started making this game in the early 2000s, their initial plan was to create 48 of them, but it was phisically impossible cause of the technical limitations PS2 consoles had, so they created 16. PS5 version is a REMASTERED version, which doesn't mean that they were supposed to / not been able to create all 48 when they hadn't even been sketched on paper back in the day...

I didn't know Agro could ignore commands. She literally turned when I wanted and jumped when needed. The only time she would stop is if i purposely ran towards a ledge that led to a death.
I'm still playing it until now but in mobile device using a special ps2 emulator app .. by adding a graphic mods. .it looks even more great for a ps2 game . 👌

My heart just broke when I heard there was supposed to be 48 colossi. I understand for technical purposes back on PS2, but it pains me knowing that Team Ico disbanded (I believe), and that there will never be a game like SoTC or TLG.
sure it might be "realistic", but in my opinion sometimes developers need to focus on gameplay aspects over realistic mechanics. controlling Agro genuinely feels like trying to drive with a bicycle which has one of its tires popped in GTA. SotC is a spectacular game and there is absolutely no other game like it, but I think a lot of people overlook its many significant mechanical flaws
The video playthrough I watched took 4 hours 20 ish minutes, and it cut all the hunting lizards out. This means another 9 hours on top of that if they included all 48 assuming they did not add more lizards.
Shadow of the Colossus is in my top 5 games that I love 1. Red Dead Redemption 2 2. Red Dead Redemption 3. God of War 3 4. Shadow of the Colossus 5. Subnautica
the colossi actually have names, but they're really basic. In the preview version (Nico version) if you open the debug menu they're actually named: minotaur A, B, C, Snake etc. Some have weirder names but these are the ones I remember

@@elitemedium I don’t think there’s anything special about the PS5 version, I could very easily be mistaken but I’ve never heard anything, the only thing the remake added was the pieces of enlightenment and dormins sword

You can actually find one of the 10 scrapped colossi which was the hog colossi,you can find it while watching Jacksepticeye play through of it,idk which stone structure but I’m guessing they were gonna make the hog colossi act just like Celosia but they scrapped him away
Watch the nomad Colossus channel if you are interested in those scraped colossi. He figured out how the missing 8 looked like, their arenas and how the map changed over time, blocking certain parts of it in order to prevent us from reaching out the arenas of the unused colossi. The spider one is the one that blows my mind the most.
Me and my friend beat the game for the first time this weekend as its free on ps plus all i can say is wow obviously ive watched the game and know a lot about it but its honestly beautiful short and sweet 😊were gonna go for the hard mode trophy this weekend for beating it in under 5:41 should be easy
Time to get hate... MY FAVOURITE COLOSSI: 1. Basaran, i like how rocky he is and the area around him the boss fight we actually need to figure out how to get to his bottom side to stab him and need to shoot glowing parts of his hooves. And i like how hes the only turtle (my fav animal) and how before shooting his lightning he glows like godzilla. Overall, he's my favourite colossi. 2. Phaedra, he's one of the guys who actually made me like the game and i liked those rocky things and how he looks ancient. Hes one of those who use nature and we need to actually go underground and behind him. The colossus that inspired me into liking this game. 3 Malus, He has the best introduction and probably the 4th tallest. I like the fire on his body and how hes like a human stuck inside a building and after defeating him hes upright. Hes also like a living obby as u need to climb him. 4 Dirge, hes the second snake but compare him to hydrus hes actually quite different. I like how his weird face things open up and hes the scariest colossi also he has the cutscenes when he hits the wall. 5 Gaius, Do i need to explain why he's No.5? I might get hate for this but i love his rockiness and how hes like a slender hairy old man who kisses me to sleep. Hes the one who made me play more since quadratus and valus were kinda boring. 6 Phalanx, When i saw his introduction my mouth was open wide for 10 seconds. I was like how am i gonna get on him if hes 60 metre tall and literally flies and doesn't have a border where he goes so i can catch him like Avion. I like how his egg sacks deflate when they get shot and he actually closes his hitspots after some time. 7 Valus, He was the reason that i realised this game is insane and he actually has a open area unlike BARBA THE POOPY OLD MAN 🤮🤢 💩 when i played it on 4K 3650 RTX HD PS5 he was the coolest lookin when he turned around and i like how he doesn't do the SHAKEY SHAKEY oh yeah~~ after we reach his body he does it on his leg. 8 Cenobia, WAY EASIER THAN CELOSIA and actually in a city thats proper and we actually take the longest on him since 4 minutes are on jumping. I also like how he rounds up his legs like a cartoon bull. 9 Hydrus, His revamp and moustache are soo cool and his height is longer than malus, dirge (also dirge is longer than malus) i also like how his glowy things turn of after he's dead and he frickin electrocutes the stuff around him. 10. Celosia, Hes the same as cenobia but its cool how hes scared of fire and we need him to defeat him. I would've put him at 5 but after the ps4 he became too hard because of wanders physics so no 10. 11 Dormin, Hes the strongest colossi and actually is a shadow with the real body inside. I like how we control him and hes the only one who doesn't properly die but instead gets sealed. 12 Avion, He's so badass when he sits on the pedestal menacingly and just wow I love the waves he released when flying close to u and the first one who can fly. 13 Poseidon, he's the first colossi we can kind of control and I like how his teeths glow when I hit it. He also has 3 ways of attacking, the lasers the pedestals he takes out and the SHAKEY SHAKEY oh yeah~~ i also like his mask. 14 Quadratus, He's the guy who made me like WAIT THEY ALL AIN'T HUMAN? and he's actually cooler in PS4. Still I find it kinda bad about him since he looks a bit weird because of his broken horn. 15 Argus, The remaster is garbage. Absolute garbage, he's a nigga and his mask is the weirdest out of all like what bro why u mad? The remaster made it so grabbing his hand is actually so difficult. I spent 15 minutes on a fight that isn't good and the guy looks weird. 16 Kuromori, absolute shit. Doesn't even do damage to me and I can whistle and he climbs then I just jump down and do it in one go. 17 Barba, THIS POOPY STINKY OLD MANS BEARD LITERALLY RELEASES WHEN I GRAB IT AND HIS CHASE IS SO SCARY OH MY GOD NIGGA U THE FIRST APE OF THE WORLD AND U SO EASY BRO still he has the best SHAKEY SHAKEY oh yeah~~ in the world.
I love how this guy didn't do any research and assumed that the original intent was supposed to be 48 Colossi. The original idea was to have a Multiplayer game where you and 3 friends would cooperate together to take down colossi. The first E3 video of the game made that very clear and you can look this up yourself.
Won't follow commands ?, while playing the demo, i was riding while standing, hit a branch or jumped and ragdolled, before i stood up, she was barreling back, ran me over and kept running, Agro was possessed way before the wanderer was.
Thank God it was cut down to 16. That would've just made the game tedious to play through. 😅 I figured Agro's behavior in game was on purpose. This doesn't seem like a game where anything is done by accident.
This game holds so much nostalgia for me, literally my favorite game ever but THAT THINGS ABOUT AGRO MAKES SO MUCH SENSE, I always wondered why the horse mechanics were AWFUL
To be honest I love and hated this game. I loved the look and feel and scale of the game but I hated that I had to kill the colossus! Wish I had them as Allies instead of enemies. Sounds stupid but just my thoughts.
well they're essentially not a bad guy, rather, you're the bad guy for killing them, but we just can't do anything with it so it's not a bad feeling, even i feel bad to them after learning the lore
There's a fanfic on ffn that made Wander atone for what he's done, and work alongside the Collossi that I'm sure you'd enjoy. It's called Soul of the Collusus if memory serves. One of my all time favorite fics.
