You missed the biggest 1 of all…….NBA legend Bill Walton!!!! Another is Mike Lookinland, who played Bobby Brady on The Brady Bunch. He is now, among other things, the keyboard player and lead singer in a Dead tribute band called The Pranksters.
@@wangson Bill Walton is 6' 11" tall, so ya want to be in front or to the side of him at the shows. Oh, yeah ... Bill went to Egypt with the Dead in '78.
NICE!!! 1968 was such an amazing soundspace for the Dead...still rocking bizarre and long-assed Dark Stars into St. Stephens into The Eleven (The 11 is my hands down favourite Dead tune of all time!!) Particularly the version of The Eleven on Live Dead...in fact, I'm off to listen to it for the 3rd time today...
Interesting how Don Henley sings of seeing a Deadhead sticker on a Cadillac and sometimes a Black Flag sticker on a Cadillac in The Boys of Summer track. Great song. I like any reference to the Dead usually. 😁 We are everywhere.
It is (was) really hard not to love the Dead! I was fortunate enough to see 18 shows during the late 80’s & early 90’s while I was in grad school, residency, etc. While I wanted to see more shows, time/money/commitments at that time prevented me from doing so, but I consider myself exceptionally fortunate for spend what little time I could with them. They were magical poets, storytellers and musicians who’s reach spanned across all cultures, races, nationalities, individuals, political affiliations, ideologies and beliefs and brought us all together in an indescribably positive, happy, loving, accepting experience that will NEVER happen again. God bless grampa’ Jerry up there in heaven and all the amazing people who helped bring together generations of people!!
I was legit surprised to see that King was a Deadhead; whenever he references the Dead in his books, it's in a negative way (journalist from Misery wearing a Dead shirt being run-over by Annie's lawn mower, the 2nd-lover from Cujo who trashed the house singing Sugaree, etc.). Since I do enjoy his work, I'm super happy to hear that he's on the bus!
Just today some guy asked me what song I was singing. I had just stopped singing "Cassidy" & had just started singing "Viola Lee Blues". I told the guy "An old Grateful Dead song, you probably wouldn't know it". He said "Oh ok, keep on truckin". I got to see Jerry play with the Dead a little over 70xs. First show was in 1987, I had found the book "The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test" at my school library, & it inspired me to see them play.
51 year old deadhead here that saw the boys 24 times between 1987-1993. Saw The Jerry Garcia Band several times. Garcia/Grisman a couple times, Ratdog, and 2013 was my last hoorah having seen Further 3 times that 40th year of my life. I wouldn't trade those times for anything. When you finally realize the music doesn't make the happening. The happening makes the music. The you'll notice right off that The Deads music isn't something that you hear. It's something that you feel in a range of every emotion. From your favorite childhood Christmas memory to the devastating loss of a loved one. The band is gone damn near 30 years now, but the tunes continue to help me get over the hump. Wow, man.. What a long, strange trip it's been.
The Dead were/are so down to earth & at the same time they're so far out there. I buried a good friend of mine 3 yrs ago he passed away unexpectedly at 42 yrs old. Thank goodness for him though they honored what he'd have wanted & olayed Greatful Dead songs at his funeral & lastly one more song graveside B4 we lowered his casket into the ground. He would've appreciated that SO MUCH.
George R.R. Martin got some inspiration from Dire Wolf. Heck, Robert Hunter even wrote a song for the soundtrack for a movie adaptation of one of his early novels that was never made. WE ARE EVERYWHERE
Sure is it's living like Jesus wanted us to ...free from tyranny an oppression as well as in line with the Good Lord's wishes in Jesus" name strangers helping strangers and once in a while you get shown the light in the strangest of places if you look at it, right?
@@jenniferjohnson9302 Ummmmmm, ok Now show me one Grateful Dead's who performs The Great Commission like Jesus would have? Mat 28:18-20 So, i like the Dead - but I would not pull Jesus into that story Jesus even said about what you described, "do not even the pagans do that"? I mean for reals, how many deadheads ever minister to you about the son of God??? Hos Peace be with you, friend :) (Im not a hater) Jn 13:35
😂that’s KIND OF correct ELVIS IS the original artist but he CO-wrote the song SO “technically” it isn’t a cover of a cover. It’s a Cover of an Elvis song…👍🏻😎 BOOM-FACTS
@@markfrommaryland3825 what happened? The dead sold out? They got 150$ smartwool branded hoodies, grateful dead nikes, and levis jeans now. I guess the dead are juat big time capitalist now.
@@maureenobrien7895 yea well Republicans don't bond domestic terrorists out of jail for burning and looting and they don't constantly lie and keep the country devided. I don't care if she is friends with them . she's an asshole.. And just because she's in a picture with them doesn't mean nothing. I think you need to stop getting your brain scrambled by Main Stream Media.
One my favorite lines in music is from Don Henley - The Boys Of Summer, "Out on the road today I saw a Deadhead sticker on a Cadillac. A little voice inside my head said "Don't look back you can never look back"
My dad died 3 days ago and he was a huge Grateful Dead fan. He had it tattooed on his leg. He actually named me after Casey Jones which if you don’t know it’s one of their songs. Rest in peace James (his name)
GDF is everywhere that there is live music. Every time I go to a concert no matter who it is, I wear one of my GD tour shirts, and the number of people I run into is unreal. Went to see Pantera this summer, and I must have run into at least 20 dead heads.
... then there's Bill Clinton, Steve Jobs, Walter Cronkite, John Belushi & Dan Aykroyd (*The Blues Brothers opened for the Dead), Jimmy Buffett, Troy Anastasio, John Mayer ... the list goes on ...
Yup...and on and on and on...and will go on forever! They'll be spoken of and remembered just as well as we do of Mozart and Beethoven. That's my prediction
