I needed this video today. During my research before I got micro locs, I knew shrinkage was to be expected. At 7 months in I wasn't expecting it to be this extreme for this long and had me wondering if I was doing something wrong. This gave me the confidence that I'm indeed on the right track .

Glad I can help. Until it drops, it will still be shrinking but not as much as in the beginning. Once it drops completely, you'll start seeing more length.

I have 4a/b hair. I was natural for 6 years before I got locs so my hair was past my shoulders when stretched. In twists it would just about touch my shoulders. When I first loc'd my hair it was about the same length as my twists. A year later my hair keeps shrinking still! I have interlocked my roots and they don't stretch, but my mids and ends have a seemingly eternal amount of shrinkage. I love my hair, locs were the best thing I have ever done but dang, I just want my hair to actually show it's growth! I used to be able to get my hair in a high bun, but now half the locs at the back fall out.

Around year 3 you'll start retaining more length and it won't shrink as much

Yep, it'll shrink until it drops and then you'll start seeing more of your length and it'll grow like weeds

I LOVE my shrinkage on my fine thin low density hair! It shrinks, curls up and provides coverage for my scalp. I dread the day my locs drop! Can I keep it from dropping?

Unfortunately, no. It will drop. How I keep mine looking full without the drop is by cutting it. When cut, the ends open and give it a little more bounce and volume

Yes, you can certainly cut your locs in layers.

Hello, I’m a newbie, I’m binging videos while I’m down my once and for all take down of my minitwist. I finally made the decision to do 250-300 minitwist but this time I’m going to take down anymore. I’m using this last install as my starter locs. SO HELLO LADIES IN GENTS IVE JOINED THE COMMUNITY. but I have 3 of 4 questions. 1. Is there any way to speed up the 1-3 year shrink phase to 1 year only. I will be wearing natural goddess locs meaning I love my curly ends and plan to keep them. I’ve also decided to use Rosewater daily or every other day. 2. I do not want product build up so the only curly end leave in conditioner I use is Paul Mitchell “The Conditioner” daily on my ends, I’ve been using it for years and I never got build up on my minitwist with Paul Mitchell EVER. I will also be using RoseWater daily or every other day and a light oil to seal in my moisture. Does this seem accurate? 3. Is my DIY Flaxseed gel (I get no flakes) ok to use to start off my starter locks? 4. When does brushing locs come in to play?

Depends on the size of Locs. 1/4-1/2 inches, 4 to 6 weeks, any bigger 8-10 weeks. Traditional size 12 weeks

If you're referring to if locking will be bad for you, no. 3c/3b hair can be locd. If you're referring to of shrinkage will be bad for you, it depends how your hair is in its loose natural state. If you have a lot of shrinkage now, then it'll do the same when you're locd.

Hey dear. Good day. Can you address frizz or hair that goes out the locks?. I find once I wash I'm having to wrapped a lot of strands back in, I'm 1yr and 2 months in. I have a lot of lose hair coming out nd don't know what to think, it makes me hate my sister locks at time. My stylist says it will fix itself once I'm fully locked but I don't see how. She says to keep wrapping but this doesn't look like others have to do this, I feel like it's extra work I didn't plan for or want especially since I have fibro... Plz help

Hey, there are some people that have hair that grows outside of the loc it shouldn't be looking crazy after your first shampoo after a reti. I typically wrap the client's hair around the loc before retightening so the hair is trained to stay in the loc. Some will stay but not all the strands. You can also get a crochet needle to weave the hair back into the locs. I will definitely do a video to address that. Unfortunately, I do notice that some consultants wont wrap the excess hair before retightening the loc because it takes extra time but it's worth it for the client. hope this helps.

I’m almost 2 years in and my hair grows out the loc in certain areas of my head & shrinkage of various amounts everywhere. But I don’t let it bother me my hair looks great & I feel so comfortable with it & it’s definitely getting better the longer it’s loc’d. I absolutely love your channel your info is spot on factual no faff. Could you talk about fixing holes please I still make mistakes which is hella annoying. Thank you 😊 🇬🇧

I am Almost 11 months 😝 On the beginning of my locs journey I noticed that any manipulation caused it to stretch (like tying it or braidouts) all this seemed to slow down my locing process so I decided to stop till now I did a style after my retie the growth got me carried away but now I am worried that I slowed the process again and my hair on the sides and back is still thinner than the crown so I feel like stretching affects it too any advice?

hm, okay...any protect style whether updo and braid out will stretch the hair. But how much it stretches depends on if the style was done wet or dry. Yes, protective style can slow down the locking process if the style is worn for a long time. But if a couple of days, then it shouldn't affect it that much. Also, keep in mind that the back of the hair always loc before the crown. So it could be that the back is more condense than the crown. Also consider the size of the locs. The crown is typically larger than the back and sides. Hard to tell without seeing your hair.
