Swimming star Esther Williams plays the swimming star of a water show who attracts every man except the one she wants. Julie Hallerton's (Williams) heart belongs to Ray Lloyd (Van Johnson), the promoter of the Cypress Gardens water show. But he doesn't seem to notice her as anything more than his star attraction until both the show's swimming instructor and it's lead singer romance Hallerton. Features choreographer Busby Berkley's famous water-skiing, hang-gliding musical finale, filmed on location in Cypress Gardens, Florida.

I tuned in this movie tonight and there was Tony Martin, my mother's secret heart throb, singing her favorite songs. I don't remember this movie but I saved it so I could watch it again. It made me think of my momma and made me cry missing her so much. Course Shea in Heaven and has already seen Tony Martin there too. Love you momma

Always enjoyed Tony Martin's voice. Very rich high baritone, quite operatic in some respects.

Its a fact that great-looking people have an easier time in life than those with quotidian features. Esther Williams had looks that approximated the gold standard of beauty. You could say she was to "It"-ness what Otis was to elevators. She had the kind of charisma you had to have to be a movie star, where you couldn't take your eyes away from her. The impact she created was so very significant. Enjoy this wonderful number by Tony Martin - Did you ever - from my fave, Esther Williams movie" Easy to love!!!

Repeat again, what a number, what a voice!!! Didja Ever is one of my top faves in this all-time class musical-comedy. Tony sings four numbers including the title track and has the hots for beauteous Esther. Unfortunately, Esther's heart belongs to Van Johnson. Van too was another top fave of the day. He played in light frothy musicals as well as comedies with that wonderful gal, June Allyson [the shop around the corner] as well as heavy drama [23 Paces to Baker Street]. These were stars who got the best training from MGM and, consequently, were able to stretch their versatility to the maximum, while still honing their talent with each and every assignment. Do keep up the excellent work RU-vid!
