Toby Stevens is in Black Sails (a fantastic series that blends the characters from Treasure Island with actual historical pirates). Also he's in Netflix's Lost In Space.

I loved your comment about that's how Bond girls are supposed to be introduced as she's coming out of the water because that was a throwback to Dr. No and how Honey Ryder was introduced.

Die Another Day is definitely one of the most ... shall we say... "extravagant" films in the series. I see it sort of like Moonraker in that it is just totally over the top, with virtually no limits on the fantasy. On top of that, it is the 20th Bond film and was released 40 years after Dr No, so it is (over)loaded with callbacks and references to previous Bond adventures. After Moonraker, the producers brought the series back to earth in a much more grounded entry, with For Your Eyes Only containing multiple elements taken directly from Ian Fleming's work. Something similar happened after Die Another Day as well. With the producers finally acquiring the rights to the first Bond novel, it was a perfect opportunity to hit the reset button and do a faithful film adaptation of Casino Royale. I was sad to see Brosnan go... I would have loved to see him do one or two more, and end on a stronger note. I grew up watching him on Remington Steele, and was disappointed when NBC screwed him out of getting the Bond role in 1987. He was a fantastic Bond, and could have done much more had the writers been willing to take more risks. Brosnan's films generally suffer from some fantastic ideas that are inadequately explored - or even worse - dropped entirely. In Tomorrow Never Dies - The villain's wife being Bond's former lover - They touched on that relationship being something meaningful: "Did I get too close?" "Yes" But then Paris Carver is killed and completely forgotten. The World Is Not Enough had a guy with a bullet in his head, killing off his senses, making him more powerful as he approaches death... but this is barely given more than lip service And Die Another Day had Bond captured and tortured, but all of the ramifications of that are abandoned as soon as he gets a shave and a haircut. It's like they wanted to push things outside of the established formula, but didn't quite have the guts to pull the trigger. .... but they completely went for it with the Daniel Craig films, exploring concepts that would have been totally off limits before. I'm eagerly awaiting your reactions to those.

If EON (barb and michael) hadn’t acquired the rights to Casino Royale, maybe they would’ve begrudgingly let Brosnan do another film or two, at least until they could find another excuse for his dismissal. They never liked him for some stupid reason.

the film Roger Moore thought was over the top...and he was the actor who starred in Moonraker! it was such a big responsibility to honor the previous ones of the franchise, it marked the 40th anniverary of James Bond in the cinema, they basically ended up pouring all the affective memories through the film to the detriment of the story development itself...low quality with high budget! still, I can't resist finding all the easter eggs!

There's a Agatha Christie Miss Marple mystery A Caribbean Mystery, set in Jamaica. In it they show a projection about the native birds by an ornithologist. Miss Marple is sitting there and Ian Fleming sits next to her and they get talking. He says he's writing a story about a British secret service agent and it's based in Jamaica, but he can't think of the name for the character. Miss Marple says, inspiration strikes from the most unexpected moments. So the film projection begins and the ornithologist introduces himself, 'my name is Bond, James Bond '. Ian Fleming is seen scribbling in his diary and leaves. The name was based on a real life ornithologist, the rest might be imagination.

Just think, the next one is Casino Royale. You made it! This one is just laughably cringe. I can find some entertainment out of it after an edible. Some parts are so bad they’re good, and others, well… we’re talking about an Asian guy turning into a white guy. 😂Ironically enough, Toby Stephens, who plays the main bad guy after he “changes,” (one of many sci fi elements in this movie) actually provides the voice of James Bond in the BBC Radio retellings of the James Bond novels. He does a decent job there I think, all things considered. This is so ridiculous you just have to laugh. Sadly, no Q. But we’re only stuck with John Cleese for this movie. The next one is a full on reboot and the Craig films exist in their own universe. You could argue all the films from Dr No to Die Another Day exist in the same universe. The Craig films, even if the first is almost a direct adaptation (with modernization), aren’t in that same universe created by Dr No. We’ll get to that. 😂

This could have not been Pierce swan song. He was willing to return in Casino Royale & portray darker Bond. But was still let go. Hence he is the only Bond actor to be remove involuntary. It is also reason why in Oscar all the Bond actors were invited for 50th anniversary montage. But he declined as he was still bitter. Hence why all Bond actor being in one frame did not happen. Cant blame Pierce but I cant blame studios opting to reboot the series as well.

Oddly enough, we had Pinkie, his girl counterpart painting for many, many years(still do). Obviously not the real one. I never knew til I was in my 30m’s that Blue boy existed! Now we have both. You guys are great as always…. But this movie is just cringey. When Jinx jumps into the water, that CGI shot was awful. When the movie gets to the Ice hotel and the laser beam from space, it completely loses me, it’s such a terrible plot device. Then all the final plane flying into the beam, I mean 🤮. Rosamund Pike is great(she is an amazing actress) and Halle Berry rules(I think her next movie was Monster’s Ball, which won her her Oscar). Back to the movie, the Slo-mo and the car chase on ice were terrible. The only saving Grace was seeing you two react to it. Congratulations on 20, that is SUPER IMPRESSIVE!!!!!!

The movie is corny and aside from the horrible cgi, it is intertaining. Sure certain things are too much... but this is a james bond movie. Realism, is something that never existed. Anyway, I love the femme fatalle era of Pierce. They are the best of the franchising. Xenia, Elektra, and Miranda. And also have the weakest bond, Christmas and Jinx. While i do not blame Halle for her weak character, but it seems most of the times, she is not interest in the role. Wai Lin was very believeble as a chinese spy agent, while Jinkx just look a supermodel playing spies. They tried to push Pam into Jinx but sadly Halle couldnt do it. Miranda was the star here. She pushed Jinx out the movie. And each time she is on screen, Rosemund just shines. I do wish they made her role more developt. While i do understand, after all Rosemund was not famous, and Halle had academy award in her hand. Miranda required more time to make us doubt of her intentions. Specially when Miranda was the one, who betrayed bond, sending him in to torture, and later burning him, when he got free. Miranda also betrayed MI6 and M. Miranda alone, almost got what every villain in the franchising wanted. Destroy Bond. Bond again, is in a path of revenge. While with Elliott, he wanted to avenged Paris, here, he knows he was betrayed. And wants to clean his name. He also wants to show how usefull he is, and still can make a mission. Pierce is the probably the only Bond that can switch between emotions... he doesnt need any word. his face tells it all. Gustav... he does have some interesting points, but sadly most of Toby performance was tired and somehow that didnt work well. Sure the role required, but having a depressed villain... it was too much. Gustav follows the path of Elektra with daddy issues. But we spend time with Elektra or with characters that show us some moments for us to understand her. Gustav doesnt have this. So, we do not feel anything from him. He is somehow having same plan then in goldeneye, but less impressive! Gustav and Bond fight are good and cleaver, but we can see a Bond tired and less fluid. But still, i can accept this, specially after Bond been torture and having to adapt him in to real world again. Jinx and Miranda fight was good, theres no surprise, we all know how would end. But i do like that Jinx required to use some dirty tricks to win Miranda. While Miranda did played fair and square.

The movie that united both Koreas into hating James Bond 🤣 Featuring the worst Bond girl, the most pathetic Bond villain and an awful Bond theme that should only be used for torture in Guantanamo Bay. Brosnan, bless him, gave this his all, same could be said of Judi Dench and Rosamund Pike, who went on to star in much better movies. Such a shame that the Brosnan era's final movie is the Bond equivalent of "Batman and Robin", a movie so awful that the only solution is a total reboot.

Yeaaah, I really don't like this movie. I could go into copious detail on why, but I'm nonetheless glad you enjoyed it. To me it's easily the worst Bond movie, though. I personally really hate hate hate Jinx (not Halle Berry, just the character). To me she's the epitome of the writers trying to write a female character "as strong as Bond", but in the end she has to get saved by him thrice, her quips sound like dialogue a horny 13 year old has written and she has 0 chemistry with Brosnan. I mean, she literally throws a "yo mama" joke out there. Something like that should never ever be in a Bond movie. I draw the line there.
