With the recent closed door q&a, Hasbro explained that Netflix soundwave was in a contract lock with Walmart. They said they couldn't rerelease it unless Walmart wanted to. I imagine the Amazon stuff is the same: they probably want to redo it, but can't until the contract runs out.
Guess it's technically a different character. I'm hoping one day we're able to get a mainline rerun of some of these. Not for me personally, as I have everything I want from Earthrise, but for the folks who missed out
I thought it was something to do with Netflix actually, but it was obvious that they wanted to re-release Netflix Soundwave in legacy but couldn't. we never got any other beetle be either
The lazy eyebrow reviewer is the best person that make stop motion in the world I love the transformation for Ironhide where he transforms and then the roof falls off mid transformation grabs and put on on the roof 19:57
i know the "lazy" is in reference to your eyebrow. But your work ethic is solid. i saw how you worked your skit around your haircut. thats an awesome amount of attention to detail, that only a animator would think about .
ER ironhide is exactly why I preferred Guard as my ironhide seeing as he is *technically* movie colored since there was a g1 repaint as part of a Japanese 07 movie celebration line with a lime green ratchet and I absolutely LOVE those colors.
Despite your dislike of this mold, I'm still happy you were able to get your Ironhide in a state where you can look at it and only cringe at the partsforming! Seriously though, even unaligned the waterslides look nifty, he's in a much better shape than he was in your 2021 customs video.
Siege Sideswipe: wow someone has designed a near perfect version of the toy I wanted as a kid-I think I will start collecting these amazing toys. Earthrise Ironhide:someone at Hasbro has realised that because I've been collecting all those excellent figures that I'll buy this unfinished toy that is almost disrespectful to me as a customer. Ironhide ruined the good feels I had for Hasbro and played a big part in pushing me to start looking at 3rd party figures. More fool me for buying Ironhide.
Prowl's car mode looks great. But I am wondering why this is a 2-seater, 2-door car despite being a police car? Where can a felon seat when being sent to the precinct? Ironhide's van mode looks terrible alright, no wonder he's always cranky and complaining. And that boardroom meeting was totally accurate!
Iirc, Japans highway interceptors were two door, 4 seater 240z's they were basically to track down speeders and not so much to apprehend. you called in backup for that (full disclosure, am assuming a lot here, so take none of this as fact haha)
@@TheLazyEyebrow they were used for that at a time until high speed cameras and speedtraps were utilized. they're a public relations tool of a police force that demands respect as the cars they use are the cream of the crop in japanese engineering.
In stark contrast to my verbosity with my previous comments… I will simply say that I laughed hysterically throughout this review. Favorite part? When Ironhide grabbed his roof and slapped it on at the end of his transformation. Kudos to a job well done!
I agree with ur take on both figures. I love prowl but he was lacking in places so i got ur headlights from shapeways and did some paint work and toyhax and now he is awesome. Last night i painted ironhide using gundam paint pens and he looks way better then he did. Still not perfect, but better. At least i made all the red color match. The multi colors were bugging me so now its good.
I always thought Shattered Glass made sense. The universe of evil alternates has been enshrined as a science fiction classic for a reason. Plus it's an excuse to not even try to do anything beyond recolour your figures for a "new toyline", so from a business perspective it was probably Simmons's greatest success ever.
I just don't like it because it completely flies it's flag arrogantly in the face of chaos theory haha that being said, I've only ever seen the plot line done right in one show, and that was Buzz Lightyear of Star Command where the difference wasn't EVERYONE was swapped, but just the main character, creating two very skewed timelines, but everyone else was the same
This set is fine, but I am really glad the Vannettes are getting new figures in SS86, Ironhide really reeks of being a retool. Prowl is pretty decent though, I would be happy with a rerelease (though I imagine there would be some kind of exclusivity issue with Amazon). Overall I would rank it as a 3/5, not bad, not great, definitely not worth the crazy prices it goes for imo.
Can they stop trying to force Ironhide and Ratchet into the deluxe class? I would pay voyager money for a deluxe sized Ironhide and Ratchet if they has the sane quality as SS Hotrod.
The exclusive packs is why I stopped collecting the g1 figures, I really hate getting known that the figures we want are the figures that are hard-to-get cause they're exclusive to that only store.
I believe the main reason the Amazon exclusives were so hard to get, and some out right cancelled, was because a shipping carrier that had the bulk of those orders lost the containers and now they’re at the bottom of the ocean somewhere. And I agree that Hasbro should repack them all. Even if they’re Amazon exclusives again.
I always loved the earthrise duo packs, they are just unique and cool, and prowl and ironhide is the best one,i love ironhide especially the alt mod,the ER ironhide mold is better with the recent dk2 guard repaint, and prowl alt mod is unique, this is probably one of my fan favourites double packs ever after the ER barricade and punch/counterpunch pack
I think I speak for most of us when I say I’d like it a lot more if they actually sold these packs instead of an incredibly limited run in the middle of the pandemic
Despite how bad the ER Ironhide is it's still the best g1 looking Ironhide I could afford and happy with. Same with prowl the wfc trilogy in general has the best g1 looking toys. I just hope the upcoming ss86 Ironhide is a improvement or better a new mold.
On my earthrise prowl I added a black riveted widebody, te38 rims, reinforced the windows with thin aluminum, and one of my friends put genuine Japanese writing saying: law enforcement.
I think I came up with one last solution for Ironhide's vehicle mode, a new shoulder to complete the look. "But that would make the the shoulder in robot mode have vehicle parts on the front, and that's not G1 accurate! Everyone knows it MUST be!" Well, don't worry sir! All you would have to make it do is swing the arm up 180, rotate the shoulder 180, and rotate the bicep 180! This way the front of the shoulder can still retain the G1 accurate look, while vehicle mode doesn't have a random black cube jutting out of the side! (This may be a stretch)
Suggestion for paint If you use spray paint from hardware stores like Home Depot etc then use model spray paint instead, brands like Tamiya, Mr. Color, Testors. Find the right brand that you like the best and when you clear coat it, wait at least 24hrs for the paint to fully harden
I really want a good 280ZX Prowl, and this version fits the bill, but I'm not gonna drop Masterpiece prices on an Earthrise figure. Prowl was my first of the "car" Transformers (Windcharger was the first over all), so I'd like to add him back to my collection. With any luck Hasbro will drop a SS86 Prowl on us (with burned out eyes action feature!) and I can get a decent Fairlady Cop Car.
haha I love that ironhide transformation at the end, usually yo use tricks to make faux parts and partsforming disappear in your animations but here nope!
Epic video review The Lazy Eyebrow!!!! You have made Earthrise Ironhide and Prowl leaps and bounds far greater then the designers at Hasbro and Takara Tomy made them. :D Keep on being amazing.
I just picked up Code Red, the _Stranger Things_ tie-in figure that was retooled from this mold, and wow, what a step up it is. It's not perfect, it still has pointless translucent plastic, some curious color mismatching, and somewhat thicker gaps in the hinges. But on the other hand, it has proper Earth wheels, the shoulders are hidden away inside the alt mode, everything (mostly) aligns, there's no partsforming with the roof, and the feet fold away out of sight to allow for a proper back of the van. And the front grill looks like one of the pieces YOU made. lol
I find it fascinating to see how you customize your mainline figures. I value alt modes too. It's kind of frustrating sometimes how unfinished the car modes in WFC and Legacy lines can get. I'm curious why you don't collect Masterpiece figures if you value alt mode accuracy so much? Is it cost or availability? Or is there another reason? I primarily collect mainline too, but I have a few official and third party MP's and love the detail on them. But they are definitely very expensive.
I'm not Lazy Eyebrow, but from what I can see and understand why he doesn't collect MP figures anymore is because of heavy toon-accuracy aesthetics with the recent MPs. With the release of MP-44 and onwards (not counting MP Skids), many MP collectors were turned off due to how ridiculously overpriced they are, too many accessories that are featured from one scene from one episode that people don't care about, the transformation engineering is borderline difficult than MP-36, heavy usage of faux parts and the quality control issues are off the charts from many reports which led to many MP collectors resort to mainline instead.
I have DK-2 Guard, and believe it or not he is an improvement over Ratchide... Visually, the feet in the back and wheels are still a problem (something I intend to fix with 3D-printed parts) but the black does wonders to help conceal/hide the vehicle mode flaws, and the clear plastic used for the windows is a darker variety (which I have heard may be a stronger type), which when combined with the mostly black inside of the vehicle goes a long way to hiding the obvious robot bits inside
Generations Ironhide came out like 14 years ago, that's beyond a decade by quite a few years ;) God time flies.... now I feel old, I'm going to go eat ice cream and cry...
Lovely stuff. Especially the skit in the middle. Gave me a good chuckle. And your animation is on point as usual. And yeah, got all 5 Datsuns as well. :'D The flesh was weak. Now, if only Barricade had "To punish and enslave" on it's side, that set would've been worth the price of admission...
Breaking news from the future: there's an upcoming ss86 that will attempt to rectify all the mistakes with the ER Ironhide figure! Some pictures have been leaked and it looks kinda promising, although it does look extremely simple, it's almost like a core class or low poly version of the figure
best scale breakdown yet, hope you continue to include these segments. I'm looking to build a 1/34-ish scale collection so these type of discussions are a big help to me
I intend to! You can find the full list of firgures we've found thus far on my discord if you're interested, we do our best to add more fogures as they release
Great review. It always bugged me that the old Ironhide with the panelled windows got such a bad rep and yet this one, although more in line with the vehicle the G1 model was based on, is actually worse. I don't know how we can go from genuine vehicle accuracy into robot with car parts in G1 to getting a severely compromised vehicle mode just to get more articulation. It shouldn't be that hard.
I hope they come out with a studio series prowl too. I was able to get the exclusive mirage and sideswipe but these I have no chance like the cone heads
Good grief, why is it so hard to do a decent Ironhide? And yeah, transparent plastic... If it's going to persist, then it needs to be justified by the figure having an actual CAR INTERIOR to show off, like the Alternators. But if all the robot is plainly visible in there, just hide it with OPAQUE plastic. 11:05 - omg... He's based on a concept car set in a future that didn't happen. Does it REALLY matter? Nice partsforming animation for Ironhide at the end there. lol "Wait, can't forget THIS..."
Awesome video as always, we waited a while lol. Your custom work made them shine!!. Apparently Ironhide is being released as a voyager in the studio series 86 line. If he is coming in that line, then you know ratchet will be following in footsteps
There is ONE merit I found to the partsforming Vanette molds that I find pretty neat, but it more applies to Ratchet than Ironhide. I recently confirmed from a friend of mine in Japan that van-based ambulances are still primarily the norm, whilst box cabin ambulances that Animated and Prime Ratchet were are not all that common. However, those have slightly modified roofs that I shared in the Vehicles section on the Discord. I'd argue that the ER mold is great for making those Japanese ambulances with the modified roofs, if anyone is interested in trying such a custom. One could potentially also try this custom on their Siege Ratchets, even if it introduces partsforming into a mold that didn't need it.
I hear that darker clear plastics are stronger so here's an easy solution they should have done if they had to keep them clear. Tint them black! It would have made the shoulders blend in at least a little bit better plus the original deco had that "back glass" (yeah right) painted in black to begin with. Also making the hinge at the bottom of the windshield thicker could have at least alleviated the cracking problems.
I know you don't like the mold, which is completely understandable, but guard looks so good in person, like idk why it looks that good but it just does. Well for me anyways, so that might be different for you
You redesigned the front window... could you also do the rear window panel and add a hinge so the panel could rotate? You are using stickers for the windows so just make it so it can rotate 180 and have the stickers on the "inside" and then the leg color could be the correct color!
YES, glad that you brought attention to the fragility of that joint, honestly it wasn't even a year after I got mine, and that joint decide to just die on me. #strengthenclearplastic
I honestly, wish I still had my copy so if you were able to relief your mold I could get it painted and apply it to my copies so I can have a good Ironhide that will not disintegrate.
I will always stand by ss86 ironhide. MUCH better ironhide figure. As far as prowl goes, he’s the only reason I’d ever buy that 2-pack. Tho I think I’d rather get the buzz worthy bumblebee 2-pack of him and ironhide. I strongly desire that 2-pack lol
I recently customized my Generation Selects DK 2-Guard into Ironhide, and honestly in my personal opinion, I actually prefer the Earthrise Ironhide mould, as I am soon getting Ratchet in the Studio Series 86 mould.
