Difference between 会 (huì), 能 (néng), and 可以 (kě yǐ). 会、能、可以有什么不一样？ 

huì 会: to can (having the know-how/skill) уметь, können (erlernt), saber hacerlo néng 能: to can (physically, in/because of the current situation) мочь (физически, в/из за данной ситуации), können (physisch, wegen/in der aktuellen Situation), ser capaz/ poder (físicamente, en/por la situación presenta) kě yǐ 可以: to can (to be allowed to), мочь (иметь разрешение), dürfen, poder (tener permiso)

The 可以 example with the teacher reminds me of the ""hilarious"" joke: Student: "Can I go to the bathroom?" Teacher: "I don't know, can you?" (Much laughing ensues) Which interestingly wouldn't work in Chinese. First sentence would be 可以, second one 能 (or 会). 学生：老师，我可以去厕所吗？ 老师：不知道，你能吗？ (Or something along those lines) That might actually make for a good example to illustrate the difference.

The word emphasis is pronounced em-fassis with the tone on "em" and is a loan word from Greek language (εμφασις).

可以 has one more important meaning like "to have smth as an option", for example: 您可以选择国家 = Here you can select the country (it's an option available for you). 这个我们倒可以检查 = This is something we can examine (it's an option available for us) It's not about permission, we aren't discussing whether it's forbidden or not. It's just something that is available, and if you wish you can decide to go and do it.

I like how the Chinese language has specific words for the English word 'can'. But I think it sounds classy and poetic if English were in Chinese's shoes. I know how to drive. = I have skill in driving (a vehicle). OR I'm skilled in driving. I know how to speak Chinese. = I have skills in speaking Chinese. OR I'm skilled in speaking Chinese. Can I go to the bathroom? = Am I allowed to go to the bathroom? Can I drink? = Am I allowed to drink? I think 能 is the equivalent of the English word 'can'

I personally feel it's better to be literal with some translations, or at least add the literal translation. '我会开车' literally means 'I can drive a car', not ' I know how to drive' and for learning purposes the literal translation is important. This is not a criticism of your teaching, which is excellent.
