This is a commonly debated subject - My opinion is Series 70 is a superior design and the Series 80 is not needed and makes a gun less reliable and more likely to fail, malfunction or break.
I discuss this more at this link:

It is clear that exceptional 1911 manufactures DO NOT make their guns with the "firing pin safety" (80) - Your best and most high quality 1911 makers like Wilson Combat, Les Bear, Ed Brown, Nighthawk, Dan Wesson, STI (Texas), Fusion Firearms
Chuck Rogers, Ruger, Springfield, DO NOT make a series 80 - they only make series 70. That in itself should be proof enough that the 70 is superior to the 80.
On the other hand, Kimber and Sig Sauer make really pretty guns but they only make Series 80 - substandard, more moving parts, more friction and pressure on the trigger and more areas to get dirty.
I DO NOT RECOMMEND ANY SERIES 80 1911. My opinion, take for what you want.
YES, I know Kimbers and Sigs use a slightly different firing pin lock, yes I know technically it is not a Series 80, if you go to above link I have pictured of the Swartz system that Kimber uses and that Colt refused to use since Colt said the Swartz system was Unreliable.
